Chapter 27: testing carina -25
Robin sensed something suspicious about the girl, not because she had seen any clear evidence, but simply due to a woman's intuition.
On the other hand, Mikita seemed more puzzled. After a long moment of thought, she finally asked:
"Who are you? I don't recall having such a beautiful employee in the club."
Faced with Mikita's question, Carina quickly composed herself and continued feigning weakness and pity, replying in a low, anxious voice:
"I'm a new member. I just joined today. My name is Carina. I didn't greet the manager properly when I arrived, and that was my mistake… I'm really sorry!"
She then bowed deeply, almost in tears, adding an exaggerated sense of drama to the scene.
Her act was so over-the-top that even Peter, despite his long experience in this field, felt a bit awkward.
As for Mikita, although still a little confused, she had already delegated recruitment duties to one of her subordinates. So she found nothing suspicious in Carina's explanation.
While Mikita was easily fooled, Carina shyly twisted the hem of her skirt with her fingers, occasionally sneaking anxious glances at Peter, playing the role of a frightened newcomer to perfection.
But the more Peter looked at her, the more a sense of familiarity grew in him. As she introduced herself, a scene from a movie suddenly popped into his mind.
Carina, unaware that her identity had begun to raise doubts, continued her act.
With a coy smile, she said, "Boss, drinking alone must be boring… I know how to sing. Would you let me sing a song for you?"
Peter gave a sarcastic smirk and replied:
"Oh, you sing too? Alright then, go ahead."
As he raised his hand, signaling her to begin, a wary look crossed Robin's face. She had come to understand Peter fairly well by now, and when she saw that mocking smile, she realized the "new girl" had walked straight into a trap.
Indeed, the moment Carina picked up the microphone and adjusted the music, Peter waved her over, then turned to Mikita and said:
"Make room for her. Let her sit beside me."
Mikita hesitated, then pointed at herself in disbelief, as if to say, "Seriously? Just like that?"
Still, she reluctantly shifted over and made space for Carina to sit.
Carina froze in place, hesitating. She hadn't planned to go this far. Her scheme was supposed to be simple—just a bit of trickery to get some money. Nothing more.
She thought to herself, "This man is eyeing me like a predator… If I sit next to him, will I make it out in one piece?"
Noticing her hesitation, Peter frowned and said with a disappointed tone:
"Didn't you choose this line of work yourself? Didn't you realize what you were getting into?
If you're not ready, then back out now. I don't want to see you again in this city."
Carina's expression changed immediately. She rushed forward and apologized:
"No, no! Please! I'm sorry! It's just my first night—I'm still not used to this. Please give me another chance!"
Without waiting for a response, she clenched her teeth and sat beside him, trying to mask her anxiety.
At that moment, Peter finally showed a satisfied smile and took her delicate hand in his.
Her fake smile froze instantly, and inside, she began cursing him from head to toe:
"Just wait, you bastard… If I don't strip you of everything tonight, I'm no true thief!"
She took a few deep breaths, steadying herself, then began to sing. Her voice was lovely, though a bit shaky.
Even Robin and Mikita nodded in appreciation of her singing talent, though it wasn't flawless.
After the song ended, Peter wiped his hands with a napkin, then clapped and said admiringly:
"You have a lovely voice. Seems like you've got some real talent for singing.
It's a waste to let you stay here. I'll have you work as a resident singer at the casino."
Carina bit her lip shyly, her cheeks blushing red, and finally said with excitement:
"Really?! Can I become a singer? Thank you, Boss!"
But deep inside, she was screaming: "Hehehe… I'm getting closer! Tonight, all your money will be mine!"
Peter replied confidently, "Don't worry. I always keep my word."
He gently pinched her cheek as she tried to hide, and felt an odd sense of happiness.
Then he made her sing over ten songs, until her voice was nearly gone, and only then did he decide to leave in a cheerful mood.
Before leaving, he glanced at the slightly sulky Mikita and said with a smile:
"Good job. Starting today, you're officially my vice president. And you don't need to call me 'Boss' anymore. Just use my name."
Mikita's eyes widened in shock at Peter's recognition, and she stammered:
"Really?! Okay then… Mr. Peter... Have a good night."
Peter smiled, pulled her close, kissed her gently on the lips, and then walked off confidently with Robin and Carina in tow.
Left behind, Mikita's eyes sparkled with renewed determination.
"I'm one step closer to the top! I'll make Peter fall for me sooner or later!"
She turned and called for the staff to begin the next shift with fierce energy.
Perhaps it wouldn't be long before "Lovers Club" became the hottest talk in all of Rheinland—rivaling even the legendary Rain Banquet.
...
When they returned, there were still quite a few guests at the banquet.
Since the casino was open 24/7, it wasn't surprising.
When the gamblers saw Peter returning with a stunning beauty, they turned their heads and looked at him enviously, whispering among themselves about his luck with women.
With a new girl in his arms, Peter didn't want to be disturbed and led them straight to the internal staff lounge.
At that moment, the private room still had Vivi inside—most likely unable to handle another round after the earlier session.
As for Robin, the moment she stepped in, she closed the door behind her and hung a small white flag on the handle, a clear signal that she had no intention of "joining the next battle."
Left with no choice, Peter escorted Carina alone to his main bedroom.
