Chapter 33: Chapter 33: A Race Against Time
Within the depths of Infinite Hell, the air trembled with the echoes of roaring explosions and desperate cries. A constant barrage of exploding clay shook the walls, yet, despite the chaos, Catarina Devon—separated from Storm by only a fence—caught every word he uttered.
"You want my Mythical Zoan Nine-Tailed Fox Fruit?" she repeated, a wicked grin stretching across her face.
Her laughter rang through the prison—a witch-like cackle full of both mockery and challenge.
"If you want it, then come and take it!"
The moment her words left her lips, Storm's white clay snakes slithered forward, invading her cell like venomous serpents closing in on their prey.
Catarina Devon sprang into action.
With acrobatic agility, she twisted through the air in a series of rapid flips and rotations. Each movement was precise, evading the attacks with ease, her body maneuvering like a performer from a deadly circus.
Her wrists remained shackled with seastone cuffs, yet they barely hindered her movement. To any observer, it would seem as if the seastone did not affect her at all.
Storm, however, was not surprised.
He had expected as much.
Seastone was known to drain the strength of Devil Fruit users, but the degree to which it weakened them varied from person to person. Some fell limp the moment they touched it, their abilities rendered useless as their bodies collapsed like ragdolls. Others, however, remained mobile, albeit stripped of their powers.
Deep within the New World, in the Wano Country, the Beasts Pirates had constructed seastone prison camps, where captured criminals were forced to labor even while bound by seastone restraints. Despite the shackles, these prisoners remained strong enough to carry out work.
For someone like Catarina Devon, a Mythical Zoan user, possessing inhuman endurance and physical strength, it was not surprising that she could still move freely.
But that didn't matter to Storm.
He had no intention of playing games with the so-called Crescent Moon Hunter.
Under his control, the white clay snakes merged, their forms dissolving into a swirling mass before condensing into a giant sphere of clay within the confines of her cell.
Catarina Devon's sharp, beast-like eyes immediately locked onto the clay ball.
Her instincts screamed at her.
Danger! Danger! Danger!
"What the hell is that?!"
Click—crack—
Jagged fractures suddenly spread across the surface of the ball, its structure splitting apart like an overripe fruit.
If the Clay Dragon Bullets that had ravaged Infinite Hell earlier possessed the explosive force of a Death Blink, then this oversized clay bomb was equivalent to Hell Blink—an attack known to devastate everything in its path.
Then—
BOOM!
A shockwave erupted from within the clay ball, shattering it into fragments.
Catarina Devon could dodge the clay snakes, but she could not escape an explosion.
The moment the clay detonated, she was caught in the blast.
Her body was hurled backward, crashing into the cell's reinforced walls.
A sickening crunch echoed through the prison as stone and steel groaned under the impact.
When the dust settled, a deep, human-shaped crater was left embedded in the wall.
"Ugh—ack!"
Catarina Devon coughed violently, blood gushing from her mouth in thick streams.
Bright red streaks splattered across her already tattered prison uniform.
"You... bastard!"
Despite the agony ripping through her body, she forced herself to look up at Storm, eyes burning with a mixture of rage and fear.
"You were actually trying to kill me!" she spat.
"In Impel Down, no one except Magellan has the authority to execute prisoners at will!
"Not even Shiryu of the Rain could get away with that!"
For the first time in years, Catarina Devon felt true fear.
Impel Down's Infinite Hell was a place for criminals who were deemed too dangerous for the outside world. But despite its brutal conditions, it was still a place where prisoners were meant to be kept alive.
No one had ever come to Infinite Hell to carry out executions.
Even if the prisoners were doomed to rot away behind bars, they were still allowed to live.
But Storm didn't care.
To him, this woman was far more durable than even Shiryu of the Rain—a true testament to the strength of a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit user.
With an expressionless face, he raised his hand.
A new wave of clay bombs emerged, forming one massive projectile after another.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The barrage began anew.
Catarina Devon barely had time to recover before the cell was engulfed in continuous explosions.
She let out a beastly roar, a sound somewhere between human and animal—a desperate, primal scream of fury and defiance.
Yet, as the relentless bombing continued, her once-strong voice began to weaken.
The infamous Crescent Moon Hunter, the legendary female pirate once feared across the Grand Line, was now nothing more than a bloodied mess on the verge of collapse.
Storm watched impassively.
"This woman... even among the prisoners of Infinite Hell, she ranks near the top in raw power," he mused.
"As expected of a future member of the Blackbeard Pirates."
By the time the smoke began to clear, Storm stepped forward.
His Observation Haki confirmed that Catarina Devon's once-mighty presence had been reduced to barely a whisper.
Without hesitation, he entered the ruined cell.
The moment he set foot inside, something clamped onto his ankle.
A bloody hand.
"You... bastard..."
He looked down.
Catarina Devon was a broken figure, her body shattered from the relentless explosions.
Yet her eyes still burned with hatred.
"If I go to hell..." she wheezed, "I'll—"
Before she could finish, Storm moved.
With cold precision, he raised his fist—
CRACK!
The sound of bone shattering rang through the cell.
The light in Catarina Devon's eyes faded.
The Crescent Moon Hunter was dead.
Storm stood over her lifeless form, his voice calm.
"This is hell."
A brand-new trophy popped up before Storm's eyes.
[Diamond Trophy: Catarina Devon]
[Star Rating: ★★★★★★]
Unlike an ordinary diamond trophy, every diamond embedded in this six-star trophy gleamed with a scarlet hue—just like a rare Blood Diamond.
A Death Trophy.
Storm's eyes flickered. This was something special.
As previously mentioned, the functions of the system were divided into System Forge and Attribute Enhancement—usually, a choice had to be made between the two. However, the unique Death Trophy allowed him to do both.
But there was no time to admire its properties.
Storm quickly manipulated his clay, letting it spread across the entire cell. Like a dense fog, the clay obscured the figures of both him and Catarina Devon, ensuring no prying eyes could witness what came next.
Reaching into his belongings, Storm retrieved a fruit he had prepared in advance. Then, he pointed the Devil Ring at Catarina Devon's heart.
With the experience gained from his previous "Devil Fruit Rebirth Experiment", Storm had streamlined the process. There was no longer any need to transfer the Clay-Clay Fruit first. He could simultaneously use the Devil Ring to extract one Devil Fruit while still retaining the Clay-Clay Fruit.
The moment the Devil Ring activated, a faint energy mist began seeping out from Catarina Devon's lifeless body. It swirled like a phantom, converging towards the ring at Storm's command. The very essence of the Mythical Zoan: Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Nine-Tailed Fox was being extracted from its previous host.
At the same time, Storm directed the extracted energy into the fruit he held.
A visible transformation occurred. The ordinary fruit pulsed and twisted unnaturally as its original form underwent drastic changes.
Golden-yellow hues replaced the fruit's previous color, spreading across its surface like molten gold. From the bottom, several strange appendages began growing outward—each resembling a tail.
One, two, three...
By the time the transformation was complete, nine tail-like appendages supported the fruit, making it look eerily like a fox standing on its own.
Storm's gaze lingered on the fruit, a flicker of satisfaction passing through his eyes.
Finally, this was the Mythical Zoan he had been searching for.
Without hesitation, he placed the Mythical Zoan Fruit on his shoulder. The small white dragon, which had been silently accompanying him, twitched as ripples ran across its smooth belly.
Then—shhhllp!
In a single gulp, the Mythical Zoan Fruit was devoured into the dragon's belly.
Now, in addition to the Chameleon Fruit, there were already two Zoan-type Devil Fruits residing within the dragon's belly.
Storm took a moment to ensure the storing process was completed before dispersing the clay veil surrounding the cell.
There was no time to waste. He needed to move.
Just as he was about to head for his next target—
Brrrr—Brrrr—
The Den Den Mushi at his shoulder buzzed urgently.
Storm picked it up, his expression remaining neutral as an anxious voice rang out from the other end.
"Magellan and Shiryu have already dealt with the 'fake' in Crimson Hell!"
"They've also noticed the disturbance in Infinite Hell!"
"The two of them are headed your way—right now!"
Storm was silent for a brief moment, his mind processing the situation.
Then, his lips curled slightly.
"Then you can start taking action too."
There was a brief pause on the other end of the call.
