Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Deathmatch! Kuro vs. Gin!
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
…
Barely blocking Kuro's relentless assaults, even with his tonfa, wounds multiplied across Gin's body.
Blood flowed, as if he were being flayed.
Kuro's voice echoed around him. "I'll carve every piece of flesh from your body until you bleed out!"
Fury stripped Kuro of his usual cold demeanor, his face twisted with ferocity.
In the growing carnage, an unprecedented thrill surged through him, his soul trembling.
He wanted to butcher this opponent alive!
Gin, silent, began to grasp the core flaw of Kuro's technique amid the escalating attacks. "Vision's limited, hearing drowned by sonic booms from your speed."
"At this pace, even you can't control your body, can you?"
"The claw marks and fallen bodies prove it—this is an indiscriminate attack."
The more he spoke, the brighter Gin's eyes gleamed. "You're strong, far stronger than me. But compared to Captain Krieg—no, to the weapons he built for slaughter, you're from different dimensions!"
"Kuro!"
"You're doomed to lose! We'll win!"
With his words, Gin's tonfa clashed hard against Kuro's claw blades, sparks flying.
"You…" Kuro's strength overpowered Gin, pinning him down, but his shock was indescribable. "Besides that man, someone else cracked Spoon?!"
"Yeah." Gin grinned savagely. "You fear death, don't you? That's why you created a move that sacrifices your senses to overwhelm enemies with speed."
"But fighting is about risking everything. No gamble, no victory."
"If I can't sense you, I'll leave it to luck!"
"Instinct will tell me where you'll strike!"
In an instant, Kuro vanished, pushing Spoon to its limit. His shoes melted from the heat, turning sticky.
Kuro kicked them off, pursuing raw speed barefoot.
Faster!
Faster!
Faster!
Beyond imagination, chasing the wind, too swift for opponents to think!
Kuro's speed surged, elevating Spoon to a new realm.
A deathly gale swept through, his ten claw blades glowing red-hot.
"Let's bet—your luck against my Spoon!"
Kuro's battle lust soared. In his high-speed motion, he hunched like a predatory feline, leaning sharply to barely maintain balance.
Fingers splayed, maximizing his killing range.
Kuro's face grew more feral, while Gin remained calm.
In a blink, countless new wounds tore across Gin's already battered body, blood spraying, a gruesome sight too horrific to watch.
"Bad luck, huh?" Kuro's ethereal voice taunted.
"Here!" Gin's closed eyes snapped open, an inexplicable feeling rising.
No reason, no logic—just certainty that Kuro would strike there.
Instinct, near-prescient, drove Gin to swing his tonfa.
The iron balls, carrying mountain-splitting force, smashed into Kuro's chest.
Boom!
Kuro, mid-high-speed, halted, flying back like a cannonball, crashing through the port's outer wall, buried in rubble.
"It's… over?" Gin panted.
As adrenaline faded, pain seared every inch of his skin.
He glanced at the ruins, fear lingering.
The fight was brief but the most perilous of his life. Kuro's speed was inhuman. Without that uncontrollable flaw, ten Gins wouldn't have been enough.
"Looks like luck was on my side!"
Turning to leave, a piercing sound came from the rubble…
Slash!
Five claw marks shredded the stones. Kuro staggered up, one arm limp, chest burning with pain.
His body was at its limit, but his gaze on Gin blazed. "Aren't you curious?"
"How you sensed my attack like foresight?!"
"I thought I'd never see it before the Grand Line, never felt it myself, but there's no mistake!"
"Observation Haki!"
"Now I get why even a monster like Gawain reacts that way when talking about it."
"Predicting attacks gives too great an edge!"
"Ha ha ha ha ha!"
Kuro pushed his glasses up, his face crazed with excitement.
"He didn't lie! He really didn't!"
"I just needed enough pressure to awaken this power hidden in my body. Now it's different—we're equals!"
"One arm's broken, over six ribs snapped from your hit, and my organs are damaged."
"Next… it's a fight to the death. I might die, but are you ready?"
"Monster!"
Gin gasped, terror in his eyes. "You're still fighting?"
"Yeah." Kuro licked his lips, tasting blood, his battered body swaying with each step.
Each left a bloody print.
Life or death? He didn't care.
A quiet life? It didn't matter now.
Only now did he see his true self, why he'd once wanted to quit piracy.
Boredom!
This mediocre world, the weakest East Blue, couldn't spark his interest in drawing a blade.
Even stronger foes seemed conquerable with his cunning mind.
Until Gawain. Fighting him rekindled that thrill, his soul trembling!
"I'm a hopeless villain through and through!"
"Only battle, pain, and blood bring solace to this endless life!"
"Ha ha ha ha ha—!"
