Chapter 164: Chapter 164: First Stop: Impel Down
"Colonel Rosha is truly young. He looks even younger than my second son."
"Indeed, but his strength is terrifying. He's undeniably the top talent among our Marine's new generation!"
"Serving under such a promising officer, our future will surely be bright."
On the vast and boundless sea, a 50-meter-class colossal warship sailed steadily, appearing like a mere speck in the ocean, following the navigator's set course.
The 200 marines aboard were diligently performing their respective duties, occasionally exchanging whispers about the intriguing gossip surrounding their commanding officer.
On the bow of the warship, Rosha gazed ahead at the towering steel gates that stretched into the clouds.
Even though he had seen them once before, the sight still filled him with awe.
It had been nearly half a day since their departure from Marineford.
The warship was now heading toward the legendary underwater prison—Impel Down.
The vast, calm waters they traversed were the Calm Belt, and the immense gates ahead bore a grand insignia of a cross piercing through five orbs. These gates were none other than the Gates of Justice, built centuries ago by the World Government, standing tall over the deep sea of the Calm Belt.
There were three Gates of Justice, each hundreds to thousands of meters high, located in front of Marineford, Impel Down, and Enies Lobby.
To enter any of these critical locations, one had to pass through the Gates of Justice.
Circumventing the gates was nearly impossible, as the turbulent ocean currents on either side were caused by massive whirlpools generating reverse flows.
Without opening the gates, the only alternatives were to fly over them or travel underwater using coating technology.
Rosha, with his current level of wind control, wasn't nearly capable of lifting a 50-meter warship along with its massive cargo and personnel to soar hundreds of kilometers.
Thus, he had no choice but to wait for Impel Down to verify their passage request and activate the gate mechanism.
The reason for this trip to Impel Down was to deal with a juvenile giant pirate named Pamel.
Although Pamel had taken up piracy, he hadn't committed any significant crimes yet—neither oppressing civilians nor engaging in wanton slaughter.
Compared to the notorious DeKalban Brothers, Pamel was far more agreeable to Rosha.
Giants were important allies to the Marines.
Currently, the Marine Headquarters had more than ten giant warriors holding officer ranks, including several vice admirals.
Unless absolutely necessary, the Marines were reluctant to imprison a member of the giant race.
The giants' innate physical strength was unparalleled at sea.
Their massive stature and formidable physique allowed them, once reaching adulthood, to grow over 12 meters tall and possess the terrifying ability to single-handedly defeat thousands.
When wielding weapons weighing dozens of tons, even someone skilled in Armament Haki would find it hard to withstand their crushing blows.
Sengoku had specifically sent Rosha to see if he could recruit Pamel into his ranks.
This would provide Rosha with a capable ally.
Rosha gladly accepted.
He could use a strong subordinate to carry his Heavenly Dragon Halberd.
The weapon, weighing over ten tons, wasn't something just anyone could handle with ease.
Keeping it with him was inconvenient, while leaving it on the warship felt risky.
After all, who could guarantee another thief like Dafylance wouldn't try to steal his weapon?
"Buru buru."
"Buru buru."
The Den Den Mushi in Rosha's pocket rang. He reached in, pulled it out, and answered the call.
"Hello, is this Colonel Rosha? This is Impel Down. Your request to pass through the Gates of Justice has been approved. Please prepare your ship and stabilize it. The gates will open shortly. Please proceed through promptly."
"No problem. We're all set here. Go ahead and open the Gates of Justice," Rosha replied with a smile.
Five months ago, he had visited Impel Down once before with Zephyr, so he had some understanding of the procedures required to enter such a critical location.
Typically, to have the Gates of Justice opened for passage, one first needed to verify their identity and purpose. Then, Impel Down would contact Marine Headquarters for approval.
While he was lost in thought, the previously calm sea ahead suddenly began to churn violently.
Within a radius of several dozen kilometers, the water grew increasingly turbulent and chaotic.
The warship beneath his feet rocked sharply with the intense waves, swaying and pitching up and down.
"Hibari! Guide the direction! I'll take the helm!"
Sensing the increasingly erratic motion of the ship, Rosha swiftly moved to the helm and took over from a sturdy lieutenant, firmly gripping the wheel.
"Got it, Rosha! Adjust the ship 15 degrees to the left! A strong current is approaching!"
Hibari's clear, melodic voice rang down from the crow's nest atop the mast.
"The rest of you, to your stations! Unfurl the sails! Prepare for Colonel Rosha to assist the ship with his Devil Fruit powers!"
Lwa issued commands loudly. As a Headquarters Major, he was the second-highest-ranking officer aboard, subordinate only to Rosha.
"Yes, sir!"
The soldiers worked energetically, efficiently following the commands of Lwa and Hibari. They stabilized the ship and kept it on course toward the gradually opening Gates of Justice ahead.
As the hull shook violently, Hibari shouted from the top of the mast, "Now's the time! Use your ability, Rosha! Full speed ahead!"
"Understood!"
The young officer, brimming with confidence, stood tall with his white cape fluttering behind him.
On the turbulent sea, a powerful gale, equivalent to a Level-12 storm, suddenly arose.
Rosha levitated into the air, spreading his arms as he controlled invisible yet tangible gusts of wind. The force filled the sails to their limit, propelling the warship like an arrow shot from a bow. Skimming across the dark waters, the ship surged through the narrow gap like a spear piercing a chasm.
"Boom!"
The warship crashed through a towering spray of seawater, landing heavily and settling onto the smoother downward current ahead.
"All clear! Sail another five kilometers, and we'll reach Impel Down!"
Hibari's voice echoed from the mast.
"That was intense, but we made it! Hahaha!"
Rosha laughed heartily as he released the helm, eager to finally set foot inside Impel Down again.
Last time, he had only descended to the third level, where the DeKalban brothers were imprisoned.
He hadn't ventured into the legendary Level 6, the Eternal Hell.
This time, however, with Sengoku's permission, he could finally visit the Eternal Hell and see those infamous pirates of legend.
With Rosha's wind manipulation aiding the ship, the final five kilometers took only minutes. Soon, they arrived at the upper-level port of Impel Down.
From a distance, Rosha could already see several distinct figures waiting at the harbor.
"Colonel Rosha, I am Hannyabal, the newly appointed Deputy Warden of Impel Down. It's an honor to meet you!"
Before the warship had even docked, a man holding a trident, dressed like an Egyptian Pharaoh, and sporting a rotund belly, stepped forward and greeted him enthusiastically.
