Chapter 151: Chapter 150: Sengoku Fell Into The Trap!
Sengoku surveyed the entire battlefield, now transformed into a dark red hellscape, resembling the very depths of the underworld. The charred skeleton army that covered the field looked like fiendish specters, crawling out of Hell and Purgatory.
Among them, three figures stood out, vastly different from the ordinary burnt skeletons. These three had recognizable features, their charred bodies resembling puppets of flame. They led the blackened skeleton army, halting the advance of all the Naval Headquarters Vice Admirals.
First was Sand Crocodile, former Shichibukai, wielding the power of the Sand-Sand Fruit. Then, Onigumo, a once-formidable Vice Admiral of the Marines, who met his end at the hands of Portgas D. Ace during the Enies Lobby Buster Call. And finally, the self-proclaimed god, Enel from Sky Island, who wields the power of the Thunder Fruit, rumored to be the previous Thunder Fruit user.
The combined strength of these three caused Sengoku's face to twitch. Thanks to the immense Armament Haki granted by Ace, both Crocodile and Enel were now fighting at an Admiral's level. Onigumo, with his extensive experience as an Admiral candidate, was a force to be reckoned with. Even more troubling, their bodies had now gained immortality on this battlefield.
The Entei Pirates had suddenly gained three terrifying new warriors. Under the combined assault of Momousagi, Chaton, and the other Vice Admirals, these three immortals still managed to hold their ground. Their charred bodies, while incapable of utilizing their physical strength like normal fighters, were immortal. Their power lay in their Devil Fruit abilities and the Armament Haki given to them by Ace. However, it was clear that, despite its potency, this Haki wasn't originally their own power, which made it difficult to wield.
Enel, in particular, fumbled with the Haki, using it clumsily, as if he had never touched it before. If it weren't for these weaknesses, even the combined strength of the Vice Admirals and Rear Admirals — all proficient in Armament Haki — might not have been enough to withstand them.
Regardless, the arrival of these three immortals, immune to fatal attacks, shifted the battle in favor of the Entei Pirates. The battlefield, scorched by Ace's flames, weakened the Marines' Logia fighters and left their Haki users struggling. The Marine forces were at a clear disadvantage.
Sengoku's face darkened as he glanced at Ace, who was rapidly restoring his strength using the intense heat surrounding the battlefield. Ace's flames allowed him and his forces to recover, while the Marines were being drained, both physically and mentally. This battlefield had become Ace's domain — a home ground that favored him entirely.
While Logia Devil Fruits allow users to recover strength by drawing from natural elements, it isn't without limits. As Sengoku had once reminded Ace, every power in this sea follows a balance. Logia abilities rely on the user's spirit and stamina, and when overused, the body and mind will eventually falter. However, Ace's will and physical resilience were enough to see him through this war. Defeating him by attrition was impossible.
For the Marines, the stakes were even higher. They weren't just fighting to stop Ace's rampage — they were fighting to prevent his public execution of the Celestial Dragons. Ace had clearly planned to expose the sins of these World Nobles in front of the world before their execution, aiming to shatter the image of the World Government's authority, just as the execution of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, had once shaped the world. Ace no longer saw himself as a mere pirate; he had ascended to the level of an emperor, seeking to place himself above even the World Government. His ambition was terrifying!
The public revelations of the three Celestial Dragons' memories, especially that of Saint Charlos, had exposed their crimes for all to see. With the reading of Saint Shalria's memories also nearing its end, Ace's execution of the Celestial Dragons was imminent. The Marines were running out of time.
Sengoku clenched his jaw and glared at Ace. "So, your ability to wield multiple Devil Fruit powers — it's because of the power of Kuma's Paw Fruit, isn't it?"
Ace smiled calmly. "That's right. During the incident at Thriller Bark, I intercepted some of Kuma's Paw-Paw Fruit's demonic energy. It's an incredibly versatile power. As expected from a prize bestowed upon the Knights of God, alongside the Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Zoan model — Azure Dragon — during the God Valley incident~"
When Ace heard the question, he smiled and replied lightly.
Sengoku needs information, so he is willing to give it to him.
The ultimate person who has attained the spirit, wisdom, and power of the Buddha is strong, but they have their flaws. Overloading them with too much information will force them to think and plan constantly, draining their energy and physical strength.
As Sengoku once said, in this ocean, all forces are fair.
He knew Sengoku's greatest strength — his Buddha-like wisdom and power — was also his greatest weakness. The more information he had, the more he would overanalyze, draining his mental and physical reserves. Sengoku's Devil Fruit, the Mythical Zoan — Great Buddha form, granted him extraordinary wisdom and power, but using too much of that power came with a cost.
Want more information from him? Ace is happy to share it.
"Valley of God? Knights of God?! How do you know about that!?"
Sengoku stared at Ace, his pupils shrinking in shock. Only a select few in the world possessed such knowledge. Could Garp have told him?
Sengoku quickly dismissed the thought. Even though Garp had adopted Ace, there was no way he would reveal such classified information. After fighting alongside Garp for so many years, Sengoku knew him as well as his own family. In Garp's heart, there was still an unwavering sense of justice, rooted in the Marine's ideals.
But if not from Garp, how did Ace come to know about this?
Sengoku's mind raced, drawing on the wisdom and insight granted by his Devil Fruit, the Great Buddha form, but no answers emerged.
Strange! This man, Portgas D. Ace, was just too strange!
Even if he somehow managed to extract the demonic factor from Kuma's Paw Fruit, how could he use its powers? And more importantly, Kuma's Paw Fruit doesn't have the ability to extract the powers of other Devil Fruits! Devil Fruits are whole entities, indivisible. Even if split into multiple pieces, only the first person to consume it would gain its powers. The others would simply eat normal fruit.
Devil Fruit abilities cannot be shared or split!
Never in the history of the sea had there been two people wielding the same Devil Fruit power at the same time.
Yet now, on this battlefield, Sengoku was witnessing the impossible. Crocodile and Vivi both using the Sand-Sand Fruit's powers simultaneously, and Enel and Nami both wielding the Thunder Fruit's abilities. Sengoku's mind was spinning in disbelief.
Moreover, Ace had summoned souls from the underworld—something recorded in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia as the power of the Revive Fruit. But even that fruit should only allow the user to summon their own soul from the afterlife, not the souls of others!
Yet here was Ace, summoning the souls of Crocodile and others from the underworld itself—once again, defying the known limits of Devil Fruits.
Why? Why was Ace able to wield multiple Devil Fruit abilities, and not only that, use them beyond their natural limitations?
And then there was the most troubling mystery of all: how did Ace know about the Valley of God incident and the Knights of God?
Ace had only been at sea for a year. Before that, he was raised in obscurity, likely by Garp in some remote location. How could someone from such an isolated environment know more about the Celestial Dragons than Sengoku, the Marine Fleet Admiral?
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
Sengoku's eyes locked onto Ace, his body shuddering as cold sweat trickled down his back. The battlefield, aflame with the hellish Magma created by Ace, suddenly felt like a freezing ice cavern to him. Fear, disbelief, and unease—emotions Sengoku, a man who had eaten the Mythical Zoan Great Buddha Fruit, should not experience—overwhelmed him.
He was supposed to possess the wisdom, spirit, and strength of a Buddha, yet here he was, shaking with emotions he couldn't control.
Finally, Sengoku's heightened wisdom and insight led him to a terrifying realization about Portgas D. Ace: Ace viewed the world from a completely different perspective. It wasn't the perspective of a normal human, but rather as if an omniscient and omnipotent being were watching the world unfold.
Sengoku clutched his head, panting heavily. Was this secret too much for him to bear? The burden of understanding was overwhelming.
"You've seen through a part of my secret, haven't you, Sengoku?" Ace's voice broke through the tension, his lips curling into a smirk. "What's the matter? Can't you, a man who ate the Great Buddha Fruit, handle such a simple secret?"
Ace glanced at Sengoku, a slight smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"So, you truly know everything about my Buddha Fruit. You deliberately gave me plenty of information, forcing me to analyze it all and putting a tremendous mental burden on me. Are you trying to outwit me, me, who was called 'Resourceful General'? What a terrifying man!"
Sengoku gritted his teeth and forced himself to stop thinking. He had fallen into Ace's trap. From the beginning, Ace had manipulated him into over-analyzing the situation. His strategy, which had revolved around controlling the battlefield, had been completely undone by Ace's psychological maneuvering.
He had misjudged Ace, seeing him only as someone who used raw power to break through obstacles. But Ace had also used his wits to outsmart Sengoku.
Damn it! I was tricked in a battle of wits! Sengoku thought, his mind beginning to waver from the strain.
"Looks like it's about time," Ace said, glancing up at the execution platform, a sly smile tugging at his lips. "The memory reading of the final Celestial Dragon is almost complete. The trial is about to begin."
