Chapter 139: Chapter 139: The Boldness of Strength
"Quite audacious, aren't you?"
Seeing Zephyr's severed wrist, Wright's eyes sharpened as he raised his hand with a sweeping motion.
"Wall of Holy Light!"
A massive barrier of radiant light materialized, separating Wright, Zephyr, and the cadets from the now-rising Weevil. Wright turned toward Zephyr.
"Teacher Zephyr, let me tend to your wrist first."
"This thing..." Zephyr exhaled in relief, gesturing toward the barrier. "Can it hold? That guy's attack power isn't weak!"
"It'll hold long enough to heal your arm."
Wright stepped forward, carefully picking up Zephyr's severed hand. After aligning it meticulously, he summoned an Eternal Flame, letting it restore the internal tissues. Then, with a burst of healing light, Zephyr's arm was fully repaired.
Feeling his right arm as good as new and his strength replenished, Zephyr sighed deeply.
"Thank goodness you're here, Wright."
"Your Lightforged Beacon Crystal, combined with your healing ability, truly is a perfect match!"
"You're too kind, Teacher Zephyr," Wright replied with a wry smile before turning to the cadets, who were staring at Zephyr's restored arm in stunned silence.
"Dawn of Light!"
Golden light rippled outward, washing over the cadets. Wherever it touched, injuries healed, and strength was restored.
"It's amazing! Vice Admiral Wright's miraculous healing powers!"
"But why did Vice Admiral Wright suddenly appear here?"
"Teacher Zephyr doesn't seem surprised—he must've arranged this beforehand!"
"Even so, it's incredible how he managed to do this…"
Boom!
The cadets' hushed discussions were interrupted by a thunderous crash. Weevil was relentlessly striking Wright's Holy Light barrier with his blade.
Weevil's intelligence was questionable—either inherently low or impaired by his Devil Fruit's effects.
Normally, he appeared foolish but harmless enough to communicate. However, in combat, especially when activating his Devil Fruit powers, all semblance of rationality vanished.
Wright had been present for some time, yet Weevil seemed entirely unaware of his arrival, his bloodshot eyes fixed solely on Zephyr beyond the barrier as he launched frenzied attacks.
"Hmm… this guy hits hard. The Holy Light Wall won't last much longer," Wright remarked, glancing at Zephyr. "Teacher Zephyr, how are you feeling?"
"Feeling… fantastic!" Zephyr grinned widely. "I feel like I could fight all day!"
"Haha, Teacher Zephyr, I'll protect the cadets with the barrier. You stay on standby while I deal with this guy. I just came from Impel Down, so I don't mind taking a detour back there!"
"No, Wright…"
Zephyr frowned. "A battle between the two of you could destroy the entire ship. Protecting the cadets takes priority."
He paused, his voice grave. "Driving him off will suffice. Our main goal is to ensure the cadets return safely to headquarters."
"Understood, Teacher Zephyr. We'll do it your way," Wright nodded, respecting the steadfast resolve of the "Admiral Who Doesn't Kill." He reinforced the Holy Light Wall with a second layer before drawing his blade.
"Alright, I'm going in!"
Whoosh!
Wright appeared behind Weevil in an instant and delivered a swift kick.
"Judgment Strike!"
Bang!
Weevil was sent flying into the Holy Light Wall, shattering the first layer into shimmering golden fragments.
"Who the hell is that?!"
On a small boat nearby, Miss Buckin had been suspicious ever since the barrier of light appeared. But it wasn't until Wright kicked Weevil that she realized they were up against a formidable opponent.
"Raaah!"
Weevil let out a beastly roar, his powerful physique dampening the effects of Wright's strike. Recovering quickly, he finally shifted his gaze from Zephyr to Wright, swinging his massive naginata with brute force.
"Seraphim's Brand!"
Golden-red flames erupted from Wright's blade, Ashes, as he activated his "Lightspeed" ability, appearing almost instantaneously to Weevil's left and slashing downwards.
Though Weevil's Armament Haki was mediocre, his physical durability was astonishing. Wright's blade easily bypassed the Haki but met immense resistance as it cut into Weevil's flesh.
"A problem with the Devil Fruit, perhaps?"
"Flames? A monstrous physique? Twin claws… Zoan-Type, Mythical Model?"
Wright quickly assessed the situation. "But it seems to severely impact his mind…"
"This bizarre fruit... it looks like his already limited intelligence can't handle its power!"
Withdrawing his blade, Wright watched as Weevil howled in pain.
"This isn't right... the Holy Light's power doesn't affect him as much as I expected."
"Could it be... his intelligence is really as childlike as it seems, with no sense of morality?"
"In other words... this guy's every action is completely directed by that wretched old hag!"
Activating Observation Haki fully, Wright defended against Weevil's frenzied attacks while focusing on sensing his mental state.
"Hmph… a complete void."
"This guy's nothing more than an uncontrollable beast!"
Wright closed in, parrying Weevil's naginata before delivering a powerful kick to his face. Using the momentum, Wright leaped into the air, gripping his sword with both hands.
"I can't use a big move… or the warship's done for."
"Clang—!"
With a resounding slash, Wright severed Weevil's massive naginata.
Ashes, bolstered by the "Seraphim's Brand," had nearly reached the level of a Supreme Grade Sword. In this state, it easily competed with the likes of the Twenty-One Great Grade Swords.
Deprived of his weapon, Weevil's combat effectiveness plummeted. His brute strength wasn't enough to make up for his lack of technique—he could only endure punishment.
Dodging the clumsy swings of Weevil's naginata handle—yes, he was still swinging the now-blunt pole like a weapon—Wright smirked.
"Still trying to pull off a 'Who says a spear without a head can't stab' act?"
"Circular Holy Light Wall!"
Wright summoned a smaller Holy Light Wall to block Weevil's attack before unleashing a series of rapid slashes, leaving the hulking pirate covered in wounds.
"Super Final Judgment!"
A brilliant golden slash struck Weevil, turning his roars into screams of agony. His left claw… no, his left hand, was severed cleanly by Wright.
As the massive beastly hand reverted to its human form, Wright destroyed it with a single strike, noticing its durability had dropped significantly once separated from Weevil's body.
"Lightspeed!"
"Judgment Strike!"
Wright teleported beside the kneeling, wailing Weevil, delivering a sweeping blow that sent the hulking figure hurtling off the warship and into the sea.
"My precious son!"
Miss Buckin panicked, frantically rowing her small boat toward Weevil's falling figure. As a Devil Fruit user, drowning in the sea would be his death sentence.
"I'll go take her out!"
Wright prepared to pursue, but Zephyr stopped him.
"Leave her be… desperate dogs bite hard. The cadets can't handle more surprises."
Wright paused, then nodded solemnly.
"That guy took your arm… I took his hand."
"If this were the past, that guy wouldn't leave here alive."
"Pass the order! Full speed ahead! Return to headquarters!" Zephyr's booming voice snapped the stunned cadets back to attention.
As the ship began its journey back, Zephyr exhaled deeply.
"Wright… without you, I'd have been done for this time."
"You don't have to say that, Teacher Zephyr. With me here, nothing like that would ever happen…"
