Chapter 86: "Silver Arm" Regedor
The world of One Piece boasts a surprising amount of advanced technology, and steamships are a prime example.
However, due to environmental constraints, technological limitations, and the era's specific characteristics, these steamships are still in their rudimentary stages.
They retain large sails, allowing them to harness wind power to reduce steam engine consumption and increase the ship's speed.
Of course, these advanced technologies are not yet widespread.
The imperfections of steamships and steam engines, coupled with their exorbitant cost, make them a rare sight.
As one of the "silver medalists" in the latter half of the Grand Line, the Roberts Legion commands over twenty warships, yet they possess only one steamship, the Spiral.
"General Regedor, many things are flying out of the Marine warships!"
Meanwhile, on the oak deck of the Spiral, a lookout, scanning the distant Marine and Germa warships with a monocular, suddenly cried out.
"Can you see what they are clearly?"
A calm voice responded.
The lookout lowered his monocular and turned to see a three-meter-tall man approaching.
The man had a handsome face, a black skull pendant around his neck, and a bare upper body with iron-forged, powerful muscles covered in numerous scars. Silver vambraces adorned his wrists, while his lower body was clad in a silver-grey men's skirt-armor and steel armored boots with gilded patterns.
This was "Silver Arm" Regedor, one of the three generals of the Roberts Legion, with a bounty of 499 million Berries!
"Regedor-sama, it's too far to see clearly, but I can tell they're large flying birds!" the lookout replied.
"Hmm... What's that?"
Regedor frowned, looking up at a large black shadow soaring toward the Spiral.
The lookout quickly raised his monocular, only to see a black monster, approximately twenty meters long, whose body shimmered with a metallic luster under the sunlight.
"I-I-Is that a dragon...?" the lookout stammered, his face aghast.
A distance of one thousand meters is not far for a flying creature about twenty meters long, and it quickly closed the gap.
"N-No way..."
Regedor, too, wore an expression of disbelief. He now clearly saw the large black shadow in the sky was indeed a pitch-black dragon.
"W-What the hell?! It's actually a black dragon?!"
"Such legendary creatures shouldn't exist in reality!"
"Damn it, did I get drunk last night and hit my head? Why am I seeing a creature like a dragon?"
The soldiers of the Roberts Legion on the Spiral were all stunned, hardly believing their eyes.
At this moment, Cross sat composedly on the back of the metallic black dragon, his gaze sweeping coldly over the steamship below and the pirates on its deck.
Among them, a tall, powerfully built man with a bare upper body caught his attention. Cross's Observation Haki detected a very strong "voice" from him, distinct from the petty fodder, a "voice" unique to a strong individual.
"That guy must be 'Silver Arm' Regedor..." Cross murmured to himself, his gaze meeting Legend's.
"The brat on the dragon's back... he's a Marine!"
On the Spiral, Regedor's expression hardened. The thought immediately sprang to mind: "Is he here to monitor me?"
He was supposed to be monitoring others, but now he was being monitored in return!
A cruel smile appeared on Regedor's handsome face. The silver vambraces on his wrists began to rotate on their own, spinning faster and faster until they hummed like high-speed car tires. The rapid rotation of Regedor's vambraces created visible spiral air currents.
"Double Spiral Shockwave!"
The next second, Regedor let out a low roar and thrust both fists upwards. The visible spiral air currents instantly exploded outwards, unleashing immense wind pressure.
Clang!
In the sky, Cross, on the black dragon's back, had already anticipated the attack. He drew his Kagehide blade from his waist with lightning speed, striking out directly through the air, carving a brilliant sword light.
"One-Sword Style: Flying Edge!"
Boom!
An incomparably sharp blade aura burst forth from the void, crashing violently into the two rapidly rotating white air masses. A ferocious shockwave erupted, spreading in all directions like a fierce storm, churning the sea hundreds of meters below into surging waves.
"Nani?!"
On the Spiral, Regedor's face was filled with astonishment as he stared at Cross above him. He had not expected this seemingly underage brat to be such a powerful swordsman!
At this moment, Cross suddenly had an idea. He patted the metallic black dragon beneath him and said, "Go down. We're going to destroy this ship!"
"Roar!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the metallic black dragon roared, rearing its head, then plunged downwards like an arrow, seemingly intending to collide with the steamship below.
"The dragon's flying down!"
"Shoot! Shoot! Shoot it down!"
"Damn it! The dragon isn't slowing down!"
"Oh no! What does that dragon want to do? Does it want to sink our ship with its body?!"
The pirates on the Spiral cried out in alarm, many of them raising their weapons and firing 'bang, bang, bang' at the rapidly descending black dragon.
However, they didn't know that this black dragon was a solid metal sculpture. Not to mention firearms, even ordinary cannons would struggle to destroy its body.
Dozens of musket muzzles flashed, and lead bullets rapidly exited their barrels, only to shatter against the black dragon's incredibly tough steel body.
"You're asking for death!"
Regedor's face contorted in anger, feeling utterly underestimated. The vambraces on his wrists spun again, and he threw a punch, unleashing a high-speed rotating white air mass.
"Spiral Shockwave!"
"One-Sword Style: Flying Edge!"
Instantly, Cross, on the black dragon's back, also swung his blade. The sharp sword wind almost tore through the air, erupting into a blue-white slash.
Boom!
The airwave and sword wave collided, erupting in a dull roar like distant thunder. A violent shockwave swept out, blowing away all the pirates on the deck of the Spiral. The seawater below churned, causing the seventy-meter-long Raijin to rock violently.
The next second, just as the pirates of the Roberts Legion stared in horror, watching the black dragon about to crash into the Spiral, they saw the black dragon suddenly change direction in mid-air. It swept its massive, bat-like dragon wings across the sturdy main mast.
