Chapter 40: Chapter 40

Sal did not throw a tantrum, but Magellan was still considered an SS-level character. His death could have brought in 50,000 points. Just when the points from the second wave of the purple lottery were within reach, an issue arose.

"As the battle was nearing its end, Barrett, the sixth person, suddenly appeared and took advantage of the situation."

Sal, not knowing whether Magellan was alive or not, didn't have time to go down and check, and the time for manifestation was coming to an end, meaning he had to disappear.

Barrett looked at Sal with a piercing gaze, not understanding what he meant by "human-headed dog," but he sensed it was not a good omen.

It was too dark on the sixth floor to see well. Sal's appearance couldn't be described as similar to their first meeting; it was identical, except that he looked a bit younger.

If one had to name the most important person in Barrett's life, it would be Roger, the Pirate King. Roger had taken him on board when Barrett was utterly confused and had the strength to constantly suppress his arrogance, giving him a chance to feel at least some care from his comrades.

After Roger's death, he became an extreme type who didn't need a partner and sought only power.

Barrett asked hoarsely:

"Who are you and why do you look so much like him?"

But Sal didn't plan to answer and vanished while Barrett was in shock. The Amulet of Manifestation had officially completed its task. At this moment, his temporary companions remembered that Sal seemed to have appeared from a piece of paper.

Barrett looked at Ivankov with a grimace of disgust, which made the toxic demon king purse his lips. He could only honestly respond. After all, once Sal left, the two leaders had little strength left to fight again.

"It seems that Sal was made of paper." It is likely a special cloning method. His real body is somewhere else.

"Hmm, I will find him."

Barrett left coldly. Roger was one of his few obsessions, and he had to find out what the connection was between him and Roger.

Everyone ascended to the upper level of Impel Down. Crocodile and another person had already managed to dock the ship, but when Crocodile saw Barrett's figure, his eyes narrowed and the atmosphere became tense.

Barrett also flashed a disgusting grin. Twenty years ago, they had already fought, the battle lasted a whole day, and no winner was decided.

Back then, Sand Crocodile was in his prime. His powerful Haki and Devil Fruit ability kept Barrett at bay for an entire day, but in the end, he gave up, unable to continue. The current Crocodile evoked disdain in Barrett. He had lost his ambitions, his drive for power, and had started to crave external assistance. For twenty years, he tried to get his hands on three ancient weapons, the Pluto.

Crocodile was not as robust as before. Beyond disdain, Barrett also felt a slight melancholy in his heart. The man who once was barely his match had become like this. Sand Crocodile, defeated by Whitebeard, was broken.

Crocodile asked arrogantly:

"Barrett, we're heading to Marineford, are you with us?"

"No, I won't go. Whitebeard doesn't deserve the title of the strongest in the world. If he dies there, it will only prove he's at that level."

Neither noticed that Buggy, who was at the port, suddenly turned pale and quickly fled to the farthest corner, causing confusion among his men.

Buggy came up with an excuse to deceive his companions and muttered to himself, so that only he and Mr. 3 could hear:

"That psycho Barrett is here too. It'll be terrible if he sees me."

When they were kids, he and Shanks didn't get along well with Barrett.

Mr. 3, who barely heard Buggy's words, was surprised. It seemed Buggy had close ties with this guy, who was hard to decipher from the outside. Sometimes he was Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, and other times a figure greatly feared by the Seven Sea Kings.

Mr. 3 couldn't help but ponder: "Captain Buggy, who are you really?"

Barrett coldly refused and moved toward an empty resupply ship. Suddenly, his gaze stopped on a straw hat. The familiar hat even slightly narrowed his pupils.

Barrett wasn't surprised. The first two owners of the straw hat were people he knew—Roger and Shanks.

Toward the first, Roger, Barrett felt only respect, regret, and anger. As for Shanks, he looked down on him and wasn't convinced. He used to be insignificant before him, but now he had become one of the rulers of the sea, one of the Four Emperors.

And he himself ended up imprisoned in Impel Down. Despite this, he still felt that he was not worse than Shanks, and even surpassed him.

In Barrett's heart, there was a bit of dissatisfaction. Why did Roger leave the hat to Shanks and not to him?

"Damn, that damn hat again."

Barrett cursed to himself and boarded the ship alone, then activated his fruit ability. The superhuman fusion fruit facilitated merging with other substances.

Metal and stone from the building quickly detached and were absorbed by Barrett to transform the ship. One-fifth of the top of the advancement city was consumed, and before everyone appeared a ship made of metal.

"Wow....."

"Cool! What kind of devil fruit is that?"

The cold and sleek metal ship drew the attention of all the pirates. The futuristic style of the metal ship made even Luffy's eyes sparkle. No man would refuse a mech.

The tail spewed flames, and the metal ship was the first to head out to sea. Then Luffy and the others were ready to set sail, aiming for the Marine Guard headquarters, Marineford.

Besides the four Shichibukai fighters and Luffy, Lightning, and Buggy, the entire ship's crew included Ivankov's Revolutionary Army and Buggy's pirates from the second floor of Impel Down. As for the rest of the rebellious prisoners in Impel Down?

Of course, they were there, but they generally couldn't do anything. There is no ship in the harbor, so they can't leave Impel Down at all. It's a disastrous stalemate.

Then, Domino and the other guards from the fourth floor gradually regained consciousness and secured the fourth floor, including the room with the injured, while waiting for reinforcements from the Marine Guard.

As soon as the war ends, the Marine Guard will certainly aim to liberate the Deep Sea Prison as quickly as possible. This place is much more important than Judicial Island.
