One Piece pirates salty life

Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Drama Queen Nami

"Leo, look at your bounty! It's worth 100 million Beli!"

"And isn't the newspaper exaggerating things a bit?"

"You're already so strong!"

Nami waved the newspaper excitedly, completely ignoring Sanji's usual flirtatious advances.

She walked over to Leo, who was casually leaning against the edge of the ship, the Thousand Sunny gently rocking beneath them. Handing him the newspaper, she grinned eagerly.

Leo took the paper without even looking at it and set it aside, then pointed toward the horizon where the sea met the sky.

He had seen these papers before, ever since Nami and the others began training.

Nami followed his gaze, confused.

Far off in the distance, a vague outline of an island slowly rose from the misty sea.

"Huh?"

"Have we already arrived?"

Nami blinked in surprise, finally understanding why Leo had insisted they set sail half a day earlier than expected.

She turned to Luffy and said, "This is Loguetown."

"The place where the former Pirate King, Roger, was born... and where he was executed…"

Luffy's eyes sparkled with determination at her words. His dream of becoming the Pirate King made him especially drawn to the place.

"It's where the Pirate King was executed," Nami added.

"Are you going?" she asked with a knowing smile.

"Of course!!" Luffy replied with excitement.

---

Loguetown was the final stop in East Blue before heading into the Grand Line. Naturally, many pirates stopped there to stock up on supplies and gather information.

One would expect chaos and disorder, but thanks to the presence of the famous Marine Colonel Smoker, the town was surprisingly well-organized and prosperous.

East Blue was widely regarded as the weakest of the four seas. Many new pirates set out from here, but they rarely made it past these waters alive.

Smoker was a legend in East Blue—a professional Marine who had eaten a Devil Fruit, making him extremely powerful. In a sea where Devil Fruits were nearly mythical, his strength was unmatched.

It was as if a max-level player returned to the newbie village to crush all challenges without mercy, leaving no chance for rookie pirates to survive.

---

After a while, the crew docked the Thousand Sunny at the busy harbor.

After days of intense training, everyone was ready to relax and enjoy the town, but first, they had to draw lots to decide who would stay behind to guard the ship.

Maintaining a basic sense of vigilance was necessary.

Unfortunately for Usopp, the sniper, the lot fell to him, and he was forced to stay on the ship.

He complained loudly, but Leo and the others ignored his protests as they went off to explore the town.

Before they split up, everyone came to Leo for money.

Most of the treasures Leo had acquired were from defeating three pirate crews during their recent battles, and he had kept a hefty share for himself.

That didn't bother the crew much—they had enough trust in him.

Leo had also recently obtained a significant amount of gold from the Sky Island, so he was feeling generous. However, he was still haggling with Nami because of his own peculiar sense of taste.

Sanji was eager to buy fresh ingredients; as a professional chef, he could already smell the rich scent of quality produce drifting through the market.

After receiving 1 million Beli from Leo, Sanji disappeared into the crowd, excited to hunt down the best ingredients he could find.

Zoro's sword had been broken by Hawkeye during training, so he needed to buy a new one. Leo handed him 1 million Beli as well.

Though Zoro might not be the type to spend much, at least he had a starting fund for his love life—or so Leo teased silently, thinking of the chance Zoro might run into Tashigi, who looked exactly like his late friend Kuina.

As for Nami, Leo greeted her with an especially sincere smile as she approached.

Getting money wasn't difficult—Nami just had to do one small favor for him.

"Nami, I can give you the 1 million Beli you asked for," Leo said, "but after that... you have to do something for me."

"No! I don't want it anymore!" Nami's face instantly changed as she shook her head violently, refusing with fear and suspicion. "You must be trying to trick me again! I'm not falling for it!"

Her firm and horrified response darkened Leo's expression. Was he really that kind of person?

"Again? What do you mean again?" Leo thought, feeling a bit unappreciated. All the previous times were for her own good. But this time, it was really important.

He blamed his recent obsession with a new magical experiment for causing the awkward situation.

Suppressing his displeasure, Leo forced a simple smile and tried to explain.

But the moment Nami saw his smile, she turned and ran away before he could finish.

---

Leo immediately called out, "Wait!"

Nami froze in place, then panicked as she looked around desperately, hoping for someone to save her.

But Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji had already disappeared into the crowd.

Even Usopp, still on the ship, turned his back and closed his eyes tightly, muttering to himself, "I didn't see it! I didn't see it!"—clearly hoping Leo wouldn't notice him.

Seeing no one to help, Nami slowly turned back toward Leo, her expression resigned.

"Fine... do as you please," she said reluctantly.

With a quick tap on Nami's shoulder, Leo said unhappily, "Stop pretending."

"I need puppets you can sew by hand for my magic experiments. Please sew ten of them for me. This 1 million Beli is an advance. I'll pay you another 2 million when you're done."

He waved the money in front of her eyes, his sincerity obvious.

Without hesitation, Nami snatched the 1 million Beli and stuffed it into her pouch, completely unbothered.

I've said it before, Nami thought, as long as there's money involved, whatever Uncle Leo says is right!

Feeling victorious, she laughed a little, then turned and ran away.

Leo watched her go with a meaningful smile.

That task wasn't going to be easy.

The sewing needles would be painful, and even Nami's strong body might not withstand the repeated pricks.

But after all, she was a girl—it should be fine for her to sew some ragdolls, right?

Besides, she never clearly asked what she was getting herself into, and Leo definitely wasn't trying to cheat her.

---

After finishing his business with Nami, Leo began to stroll through the lively streets of Loguetown.

The bustling market was filled with countless stalls and shops. Thanks to the Marine Headquarters Colonel, the town was clean, orderly, and prosperous.

Most people walking the streets wore smiles, a testament to the good living standards here.

Though it was the last stop in East Blue before the Grand Line, Loguetown was full of laughter and joy, not the chaos many pirates might expect.

Leo wandered the streets, occasionally bumping into familiar faces.

Zoro was shopping alongside a bespectacled young woman, his serious expression softening.

Sanji was carrying a massive tuna, clearly proud of his catch and excited to cook it.

Nami was busy bargaining with a clothing merchant, her eyes sparkling with excitement over the new outfits she planned to buy.

However, an unexpected noise suddenly arose from the execution platform, where Luffy was heading.

A strong gust of wind swept through the streets, and Leo's eyes narrowed instinctively.

The wind direction had shifted—something was about to happen.

---

The atmosphere in Loguetown suddenly became tense.

Pirates and townsfolk alike paused in their tracks, glancing toward the execution platform.

Leo's instincts told him to be alert—this was no ordinary day.

His hand subconsciously moved toward his side, where a weapon might be hidden.

The future of the crew, and perhaps their fates in the Grand Line, might soon be decided here in this seemingly peaceful town.
