One Piece pirates salty life

Chapter 62: Chapter 62: The Oath Before the Grand Line

Usopp gripped the reins tightly, his knuckles white from the strain. The rope creaked and groaned under the immense pressure, and it felt like it could snap at any moment.

From his vantage point, he could see his crewmates approaching in the distance.

"Luffy! Hurry up!" Usopp shouted anxiously, his voice barely audible over the roar of the wind and waves.

"The rope can't hold on any longer!" His words carried a desperate edge.

Nami, standing at the ship's side, also called out, her voice sharp and commanding. "Everyone, come aboard quickly! The ship is about to sail!"

Her tone reflected the urgency of the situation. It had taken every ounce of her strength to stabilize the Going Merry in this fierce storm. Had she arrived any later, the ship might have been swept away by the furious waves, lost forever to the treacherous sea.

One by one, the crew gathered on board. As soon as everyone was safely aboard, the Merry sprung to life, its sails catching the fierce wind as it surged forward, leaving Logue Town behind in a wake of churning white foam.

---

Meanwhile, back in Logue Town, two other figures were making their own preparations.

Smoker, the steadfast Marine captain, tightened his coat against the chill wind. His sharp gaze fixed on the horizon, where the Going Merry was already disappearing into the distance.

Not far from him stood Buggy the Clown, his scarlet nose twitching as a manic grin spread across his face.

Both men had made up their minds.

Smoker was determined to capture Monkey D. Luffy—the young man whose familiar grin always seemed to herald chaos and change.

Buggy, on the other hand, was driven by curiosity and ambition. He wanted to see what fate awaited the captain who shared that same carefree smile, that same reckless spirit.

---

Farther out to sea lay the infamous Upside Down Mountain, a place of mystery and danger.

Its peculiar geography twisted weather and ocean currents into chaotic patterns, making navigation nearly impossible for the untrained or unprepared.

Nestled close to the Calm Belt, the waters here were especially treacherous. Strange reefs jutted out from the depths, and beneath the surface lurked violent undercurrents that could drag a ship to its doom in an instant.

The skies overhead were heavy with dark clouds, an ominous warning of the challenges that awaited anyone brave enough to pass through.

From afar, the Going Merry approached the mountain's narrow passage, bobbing and weaving through the churning waves.

---

"Wow! The waves are enormous!" Luffy shouted, his voice barely audible above the storm.

He was thrown up and down by the merciless sea, his eyes gleaming with excitement rather than fear.

Beside him, Nami stood firmly at the rudder, soaked to the bone but undeterred. Her eyes constantly flicked between the ominous sky and the turbulent waters, analyzing the unpredictable currents and adjusting their course with pinpoint precision.

Suddenly, the Merry was caught in a powerful undercurrent. The ship spun rapidly, like a leaf caught in a whirlpool, and began drifting dangerously towards the wrong channel.

"Leo! Look! Do you see that light in the distance? That's the navigation beacon!" Nami shouted, urgency thick in her voice.

"That light marks the entrance to the Grand Line. We need to turn right immediately!"

Leo, standing at the helm with calm confidence, nodded sharply. He grasped the rudder firmly and swung it hard to the right.

The sky-blue airflow around the ship shimmered faintly, a sign of his control as he worked to stabilize the Merry and steer it back onto the correct course.

"Usopp, reef the mainsail! We need to change course immediately!" Nami ordered, her voice commanding but steady.

Without hesitation, Usopp leapt into action, bracing against the tremendous force on the reins. His fingers worked quickly to fold the large sail as Nami had instructed, the tension on the ropes nearly breaking his grip.

Meanwhile, Zoro and Sanji worked together to clear away the debris that the storm had thrown against the ship—broken wood, tangled ropes, and other wreckage threatening to damage the hull.

Luffy, ever energetic even amidst danger, swatted away bits of wood that crashed against the ship's side as they fought the elements.

Leo, who had been quietly observing their teamwork, allowed himself a small smile of satisfaction.

They had all grown stronger.

Even Usopp, once known for his cowardice, reacted with remarkable speed and bravery in this life-threatening situation.

Once the sails were folded, Leo expertly guided the Merry along the ocean currents and shifting winds. Nami's incredible skill as a navigator shone through; most navigators would have left their fate to chance when caught in such violent currents, but she took control and turned the ship with decisive genius.

No wonder Buggy had wanted to capture her and make her his navigator.

With everyone's combined efforts, the Merry was pulled back to the correct position. Usopp quickly raised the mainsail again at Nami's signal.

Ahead of them, the surging ocean current was a swirling force of nature, pulling everything inexorably forward.

---

Just before entering the Grand Line, Sanji found a rare moment of calm.

He pushed an empty wooden barrel toward the center of the deck with a wide grin on his face.

"Hahaha! We need a proper ceremony before entering the Grand Line!" he declared, the cigarette still perched between his lips.

Luffy was the first to leap onto the barrel, striking a heroic pose.

"To become the King of the Pirates!" he shouted with unrestrained enthusiasm, his eyes shining with dreams.

The rain poured down heavily, but Sanji's voice remained serious as he added, "To find the legendary All Blue!"

Zoro's gaze grew distant, a yearning flickering across his face. His hand instinctively brushed the scar on his chest as he said firmly, "To become the world's greatest swordsman."

Nami stuck out her tongue playfully, then winked at her comrades.

"To draw a map of the entire world!" she declared with mischief.

After a long period of intense training and growth, Usopp stepped forward without hesitation.

"To become a brave sea warrior!" His voice carried both pride and determination.

Finally, Leo approached the barrel calmly, but his eyes sparkled with unspoken excitement.

"To become the freest traveler!" he said simply.

---

At that moment, the six of them—Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Leo—each wore a smile that was impossible to describe with words.

It was a smile filled with hope, with the raw fire of their dreams, with the bonds they had forged.

Leo thought back to something he had heard in a previous life: that every person has two great impulses in their lifetime.

One was a reckless kind of love, a passion that made them risk everything.

The other was a spontaneous journey, a wild adventure undertaken with friends who share your dreams and your ideals.

Though Leo had yet to encounter love worthy of such recklessness, he was grateful for the journey they had begun—a journey shared with comrades willing to stand by his side no matter what.

---

With the strength of their shared will, the Going Merry surged forward.

The ship rode the swirling waves and the bluish-white air currents like a living thing, crossing the peak of the Upside Down Mountain in the blink of an eye.

Luffy stood proudly at the bow, gripping the sheep horns nailed to the prow.

"I see the Grand Line!" he shouted, his voice ringing loud and clear despite the storm.

Suddenly, Usopp's voice broke through the excitement.

"Wait! What's that?!"

He sprinted back to the observation deck, eyes wide with shock.

In the distance loomed a colossal black wall rising from the sea.

"That's one of the Sea Kings! The Island Whale!" Usopp cried, barely believing his own eyes.

Leo sat on the top deck, feet dangling freely over the edge, swinging them gently as he observed the creature with a mysterious smile.

"We need to turn left—quick! We can go around it on the left side," he said calmly.

Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji rushed toward the helm, while Nami struggled against the fierce wind, expertly slowing the Merry's speed.

Leo remained composed, his eyes fixed on the massive whale's enormous body.

There, barely visible beyond the creature's massive bulk, were two small figures—Vivi and her companion, Mr. 9—carefully approaching the legendary Island Whale in a small boat.

---

Suddenly, a deafening roar shook the air.

With a tremendous blast, a giant shell slammed into Laboon—the whale—striking it with earth-shattering force.

The Going Merry came to an abrupt halt.

"What are you doing?!" Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp shouted angrily at Luffy, their voices overlapping in disbelief.

Before they could say more, Laboon's massive form slowly sank beneath the surface.

Then, a huge, unblinking eye opened before them.

The whale's enormous jaws spread wide, revealing teeth the size of barrels.

Before anyone could react, the giant mouth swallowed the Going Merry whole.

---

The ship, along with its crew, disappeared into the depths of Laboon's enormous throat.

Inside the dark, slimy stomach, the Merry came to a sudden stop.

Nami instinctively reached to steer the ship out, desperate to escape.

But then she noticed Leo shaking his head.

She bit her lip, reluctantly abandoning the idea.

Leo had never acted without confidence before.

If he wasn't worried, there must be a reason.

Calm settled over the crew despite the darkness.

The adventure was far from over.
