One Piece: Scourge of the Seas

Chapter 426: Chapter 426: As Long As It’s Not Maude!

The Pacifista came into being at the perfect time—just in time for the significant public execution.

However,

The newly mass-produced Pacifistas had yet to undergo actual combat.

To gather necessary data, the Navy's Science Division mandated that each Pacifista must engage in at least three real combat missions in the near future.

Such a request was not difficult to fulfill.

After all, the Sabaody Archipelago was nearby, offering plenty of targets for live testing.

Coincidentally, the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates and other Supernova crews at Sabaody Archipelago made them ideal combat subjects.

Upon reaching the Sabaody Archipelago, Sentomaru eagerly led three Pacifistas ashore.

Accompanying them was an elite squad of Marines.

Armed and alert, the Marines curiously observed the Pacifistas—identical in appearance to the Warlord Bartholomew Kuma.

"So these are the secret weapons developed by the Science Division…"

"What a menacing presence."

"They look exactly like the Tyrant."

Trailing behind Sentomaru, the Marines constantly sized up the three Pacifistas.

Their heavy footsteps echoed as they marched away.

...

Lawless Zone, Grove 11.

Inside a bar—

"That damned Surgeon of Death and that Mad Monk... Pirate captains lowering themselves to serve under another... And that wretched woman...!"

At the table, Eustass Kidd's bruised face twisted with rage, his fury barely contained.

Beside him, Killer and the other crew members sat in sullen silence.

Yesterday's events remained vivid in their minds.

Against Trafalgar Law and Urouge alone, the Kidd Pirates had managed to hold their own.

Yet they realized a harsh truth—

If Bacardi Maude had been present, he would have crushed them without mercy.

In hindsight, they couldn't help but feel relieved.

Trampling the Surgeon of Death and Mad Monk—both under Maude's command—had satisfied Kidd's previous desire to pick a fight.

However, no one had anticipated that a woman would emerge from the bar, cigarette between her lips, and easily overpower them—

All because the collateral damage from their fight had chipped a corner of the bar's sign.

Killer and the others glanced at Kidd's swollen face before subconsciously touching their own injuries.

The woman's terrifying strength still haunted them.

Fortunately, she only took all their money and spared their lives. The consequences could have been far worse.

At the mention of her, Killer's voice trembled: "Who the hell was that woman...?"

Before anyone could answer—

A laser beam shot straight into the bar from outside.

Blinding yellow light flooded the room, casting a deathly glow across the pirates' faces.

The sound of the beam slicing through the air echoed like a death knell.

Time seemed to freeze.

Terror washed over their faces.

Before their minds could catch up, a violent explosion engulfed the entire bar.

BOOM!

The scorching blastwave flattened the bar, flames roaring skyward and thick smoke billowing.

Agonized screams rang out—then abruptly ceased.

The devastating explosion had snuffed out their lives with ease.

The once lively bar had become a hellish inferno within seconds.

Several dozen meters away, a Pacifista stood motionless.

Behind it, a squad of fully armed elite Marines observed the destruction.

"Incredible..."

"That attack was just like Admiral Kizaru's..."

The Marines were stunned by the Pacifista's power.

Not only could it fire laser beams, but it also possessed advanced target acquisition capabilities—able to detect enemies behind walls.

Beep beep.

The Pacifista's red eyes flickered as it issued a warning:

"Target not eliminated."

The Marines tensed.

Despite the blast's power, the Kidd Pirates had survived.

Silhouettes emerged from the smoke and flames.

"Prepare for battle!" ordered the highest-ranking Marine, drawing his sword.

With a metallic clang, the Marines readied their weapons.

"Have you already decided how you're going to die?"

Captain Kidd, his body covered in burns, stepped from the flames—eyes filled with murderous intent.

The Marines braced themselves.

Elsewhere...

Grove 20, Coastline.

The Thousand Sunny was moored at the shore.

Yesterday—

Luffy and the others had suffered a brutal lesson at Maude's hands.

Though the injuries were superficial, they needed rest to recover quickly.

For now, they had abandoned any plans of exploring the island, staying obediently on the ship to heal.

"Sanji, I'm hungry! I want meat!"

"Meat! Meat!"

"Luffy-senpai, you need to eat vegetables too. It'll help your wounds heal faster."

"Tch—"

"How much do you hate vegetables?!"

"Luffy, you idiot! Don't wipe your boogers on me!"

"Shut up! Can't you all be quiet for once?!"

"Meat! Meat!"

Thud!

The Thousand Sunny's deck was as lively as ever.

Yesterday's crushing defeat hadn't dampened their spirits.

Robin watched the commotion with a gentle smile.

She knew the memory of yesterday's battle would remain with them.

To avoid feeling powerless again, they would push forward and grow stronger.

"A defeat without loss of life... perhaps it's a blessing in disguise."

Propping her chin on her hand, Robin's mind flashed to Maude's enigmatic figure.

A man of mystery and strength—

Their next meeting would be at Marineford.

On deck, Usopp sneakily wiped his booger back onto Luffy, whistling innocently as he walked away.

Suddenly, a chill ran down Usopp's spine.

His Observation Haki flared, eyes glowing red.

"Everyone, something's coming!"

Alerted, the crew rushed to the rail.

In the distance, Sentomaru and a Pacifista approached side by side.

None of them recognized Sentomaru—

But they immediately recognized the Pacifista.

"The Warlord... Bartholomew Kuma!" Robin said, her gaze hardening.

Zoro's bandaged hand gripped his sword. "They're not here to chat."

"This again?" Sanji muttered, frowning.

Luffy clenched his fists. "But this time, I won't fall!"

Unaware of the Pacifista's existence, they mistook it for the real Kuma.

Yet—

Compared to Maude, this enemy's presence felt... underwhelming.

There was no suffocating pressure.

No invisible weight bearing down on them.

They unconsciously compared PX-1 to Maude.

Gradually, their tension faded.

As long as it's not Maude...

They all thought the same thing.
