Chapter 42: Chapter 43: Critical Strike at the Limit
"Beasts Kaido? How did you end up provoking that monster?" Rosinante froze for a moment when he heard Sol's words, then his expression turned extremely serious.
"Your Majesty, we didn't want to provoke that monster either, but he was completely unreasonable. He attacked the moment we saw him—absolutely terrifying. In less than an hour, the entire First Division was nearly wiped out," Sol replied, his breath weak.
Over the past year, the five main divisions had been waging wars everywhere, conquering several sky islands. As they seized these territories, they also expanded rapidly—each division growing tenfold in size.
Jack's division, in particular, had gone completely wild. The First Division had expanded more than ten times, with over five thousand men, each as bloodthirsty and belligerent as Jack himself.
They had just taken over a new sky island and were trying to integrate it into the Gray Kingdom when Jack led the First Division in search of their next target. But they ran into Kaido—who had come to the sky island to attempt suicide by jumping from the skies.
Jack was notoriously irrational and savage, but that day, he encountered someone even more unreasonable and crazed than himself.
Before Jack could even ask who the intruder was, Kaido swung his massive fist and obliterated one of their ships with a single blow.
And just like that, the battle erupted.
Jack had grown much stronger over the past year, and many of his crew were now equipped with all kinds of bizarre dials and shells from Sky Island. But none of that mattered—they were no match for Kaido, that monstrous force of nature. Even if the entire First Division joined in, they stood no chance.
In less than an hour, the First Division was virtually annihilated. Jack, using his Silent Healing and monstrous endurance, barely held on. Sol, clinging to life, was the one who managed to make a desperate call for help through the Den Den Mushi.
"Bins, open a wormhole. Send me through immediately. Then rally the Bloodsworn Royal Guard and bring all our heavy gear. Looks like this one's going to be a serious fight—and it's the perfect chance to field-test your dimensional strike," Rosinante ordered.
"Yes, Your Majesty!" Bins replied.
As they spoke, Bins opened a swirling wormhole.
Over the past year, Bins had greatly enhanced his mastery over the Hole-Hole Fruit, even developing a method to mark coordinates. With this system, Bins could open portals precisely to preset locations.
Each of the division ships had one of these portal markers installed.
Rosinante stepped toward the wormhole, but just as he was about to enter, he paused.
"Wait—bring Enel along this time too. His Devil Fruit power is going to be a key element in dimensional strikes moving forward. This real battle will be perfect for getting him used to it," Rosinante added.
"Understood!" Bins responded.
This time, Rosinante strode directly into the wormhole.
Even before entering, he could already feel the overwhelming pressure and ferocity radiating from the other side.
With a solemn face, Rosinante stepped through. After a year of intense training, he had been itching for a real test of his growth—and there was no better opponent than Kaido.
As he entered the portal, Rosinante silently placed his hand over his chest, reactivating the Silent Healing Seal he had removed during training.
The moment he emerged, a suffocating wave of bloodlust and battle cries crashed down on him.
"Not enough! Not enough! How can this possibly destroy me?! How can it kill me?!" A thunderous roar shook the sky.
Looking toward the distant cloud island, Rosinante saw Jack—transformed into a mammoth—being beaten down mercilessly by Kaido, who had the upper hand in every exchange.
Stretching out his arms and rolling his shoulders, Rosinante suddenly moved. In a flash of light, he shot toward the battlefield like a meteor, straight at Kaido and Jack.
In a blink, Rosinante crossed the distance between ship and battlefield, silently appearing right in front of Kaido—and without hesitation, he delivered a heavy punch straight to Kaido's chest.
"Bang!" "Boom!"
Two distinct sounds rang out.
The first was the impact of Rosinante's fist landing squarely on Kaido. The second was the blast of internal force detonating inside Kaido's body—the Violent Pulse Critical Hit!
The tremendous force knocked Kaido back. The grip he had on Jack faltered as the blow forced him to stagger.
"Well, well… another strong one. Tell me, can you kill me?" Kaido sneered, his eyes locking onto Rosinante.
"Your Majesty!" Sol and the remaining pirates shouted with relief and awe.
"Still able to move?" Rosinante asked, looking at Jack.
"Who do you think I am?" Jack growled, reverting from his mammoth form and struggling to stand.
But it was clear he was pushing himself. His body was drenched in blood, and to reach such a state even with the Silent Healing Seal meant Jack was on the verge of collapse. His stamina had been pushed to its very limit—any more and the healing power would start harming him instead.
"Bins, begin evac for Jack and the others!" Rosinante ordered, pulling out a Den Den Mushi.
"Understood!" came Bins' voice from the other end.
With that confirmation, Rosinante grabbed Jack's massive body and flung him like a ragdoll toward the mammoth ship.
"You guys fall back—Bins will cover your retreat," he told Sol and the others.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Sol responded. He knew full well that a fight of this scale was beyond them. Staying would only be a burden.
"Aye, Captain!" the remaining pirates echoed.
"Hey—you're their captain, right? I asked if you could kill me. Why aren't you answering me?" Kaido said, stepping forward.
Without waiting for a reply, he swung a palm toward Rosinante.
Rosinante sidestepped the strike, grabbing Kaido's arm in the same motion.
"Silent Gravity!"
In an instant, Kaido's internal gravitational balance was silenced. Rosinante twisted, then slammed—hurling Kaido helplessly into the air.
"Violent Pulse Critical Hit!"
With the gravitational silence still active, Rosinante launched a devastating punch that blasted Kaido upward, sending him flying over a kilometer into the sky.
The moment the silence wore off, Kaido plummeted like a meteor, smashing into the floating cloud island below. The tough, sky-forged cloud was cracked by the impact, leaving a massive crater.
"Interesting power you've got there. But can it kill me?" Kaido stood up unharmed, grinning like a demon.
"Wow, you really are a monster," Rosinante laughed. "Most people can't even take one of my critical punches without collapsing, let alone survive being launched sky-high and dropped straight down. No wonder you tried to kill yourself from ten thousand meters up."
"Looks like you can't kill me either!" Kaido's expression turned cold as he suddenly lunged, fist crashing toward Rosinante.
"Limit Break: Critical Strike!"
Seeing Kaido's punch barreling in, Rosinante's own face hardened. He met fist with fist.
The massive fists—one large and beastly, the other smaller yet blazing with force—collided.
A shockwave burst from the clash, tearing through the clouds beneath their feet. The sky island trembled, its firm foundation cracking. The clouds around them scattered into chaos.
This was Limit Break: Critical Strike, the ultimate technique Rosinante had developed over the past year.
It fused Body Limit Release with Violent Pulse Critical Hit—his most powerful single blow.
Normally, using Body Limit Release alone came with immense physical damage and energy drain. When paired with the already taxing Critical Hit, it pushed the body far beyond safe limits.
Unless absolutely necessary, Rosinante never combined the two. The toll was just too great.
But this Limit Break version of the Critical Strike was different—it was Rosinante's ultimate attack, his trump card. Without it, he'd never be satisfied.
Though the Silent-Silent Fruit had granted him many clever powers over time, its offensive capabilities had always been a weak point.
With the Limit Break Critical Strike, Rosinante finally filled that gap.
It was the weapon that would elevate his combat prowess to an entirely new tier—something he would never give up.
And now, that ultimate technique had finally seen the light of day.
