"Yes, that's right—it's called the Tree of Knowledge," Reid nodded.
"Hahaha, that old man might not let you visit."
"Hmph, Captain Roger, if he doesn't know what's good for him, I'll just toss him out," Nozdon said dismissively, curling his lip.
"Showing his pirate nature already..." Reid felt a bit helpless—after all, they were pirates.
Roger stood with one hand on his hip and waved the other as he said:
"Nozdon, don't say things like that. Scholars deserve respect—without them, we'd never have reached Raftel."
"Hehe, Captain Roger, I was just joking, hehe."
"By the way, when the time comes, I hope the Roger Pirates and the Whitebeard Pirates can join forces to take someone down," Reid said, a bit resentfully.
Marco looked at Reid with slight interest. "Who?"
Everyone turned to look at Reid, curious about who he was referring to.
"Akainu Sakazuki."
Marco crossed his arms. "Akainu Sakazuki—I know him. He's done pretty well in the Navy over the years. People call him a demon. He got promoted quickly."
"Yeah, he's definitely a demon. That man is ruthless—he's just as cruel as the worst pirates, if not worse."
Reid didn't like Akainu at all, so he naturally didn't say anything nice about him.
"That's easy. If there's a chance, we'll get rid of him," Marco said casually.
"Don't underestimate him. He's absolutely unscrupulous in how he operates—and his strength is nothing to scoff at."
"Hmph, that guy once teamed up with Sengoku to deal with me—I got seriously burned. I'm hoping he shows up again so I can teach him a lesson!" said Sanbell with a scowl.
"Damn… Pirates teaching the Navy a lesson… But then again, it makes sense. Akainu kills civilians too. What good is that kind of 'justice'?" Reid thought to himself.
"Let's head onto the island. Do what you need to do. If you need help, just speak up," Whitebeard said. He had already been standing there for a while.
Roger grinned and nodded. "Let's go straight to the Tree of Knowledge. Dr. Clover is there."
Their group marched forward in full force. The locals they passed were all shocked—nearly petrified.
They lived in near-isolation and rarely saw outsiders. Suddenly, dozens of people had arrived—and just by appearance, they were clearly pirates. It was obvious they weren't here peacefully.
"We're here. This is the Tree of Knowledge," Roger announced, stopping.
"Wow… what a huge and wide tree…" Reid was stunned by the sight. He didn't think trees could grow that massive.
"This tree is called the Tree of Knowledge. It's been standing for 5,000 years," said a voice.
Everyone turned and saw an old man with hair shaped like three green fan blades.
"Hahaha, Dr. Clover!" Roger stepped up to greet him, his tone full of respect.
Hearing that, the old man's expression froze. "Roger, why are you calling me Dr. Clover?"
"Hahaha, I just think that name suits you. Clover," Roger laughed loudly, patting the old man's shoulder with a carefree grin.
This old man was none other than the leading archaeologist of Ohara, head of the Tree of Knowledge library, and a prominent scholar.
Reid looked at him, feeling a strange sense of awe.
"So this is Dr. Clover? He really does have a unique look."
[Clover: Scholar of Ohara, head of the Tree of Knowledge library. Dedicated his life to archaeology and preserving the spiritual legacy of humanity.]
"Dr. Clover—a respectable old man," Reid thought.
"Roger, what are you all doing here?" Dr. Clover's voice carried suspicion. He scanned the group—everyone looked fierce and dangerous. So many pirates showing up all at once made him uneasy and anxious.
"Haha, Clover, we came to save you this time."
"Save us? Roger, what are you talking about?" Clover frowned, clearly even more unsettled.
"You know about the Buster Call, right? The Navy's coming to destroy this island."
"What?!" Dr. Clover immediately broke into a cold sweat, staggering backward in shock.
"Old man, don't worry. We pirates will protect you," Yutou said with a wide grin.
Everyone else also smiled broadly.
"Looks like they're on their redemption arc..." Reid thought to himself, a little speechless.
Dr. Clover steadied himself and let out a long sigh.
"Sigh... I knew this day would come. The Five Elders were never going to let us researchers of history live."
At the mention of the Five Elders, everyone's expression changed slightly.
Reid stepped forward and said to Dr. Clover, "Dr. Clover, may I go inside the Tree of Knowledge for a look?"
Dr. Clover looked up in shock. "There are many valuable documents in there, I…"
Before he could finish, Reid interrupted, "Dr. Clover, we really did come to save you. Please trust me—none of the materials will be harmed. I promise."
Looking into Reid's sincere eyes, Clover nodded. "Alright. I believe you. But not too many people can go in."
"Thank you, Dr. Clover."
"You're welcome. Come in with me."
Dr. Clover led the way, followed by Reid, Roger, Rayleigh, Jabba, Whitebeard, and Marco—six in total. The rest stayed outside.
Inside the massive tree, many scholars were quietly reading.
"Dr. Clover," a male scholar stood and greeted him, eyeing the newcomers suspiciously. "Who are these people?"
"Never mind that. You all keep working," Clover replied.
He turned to Reid's group and gestured to the bookshelves. "These are records of human history gathered over many years—although there's still much we haven't collected."
"Ah… this is magnificent!" Reid looked at the shelves packed with books, deeply impressed by the scholars' dedication.
"Hahahaha, humanity's civilization spans countless years. What you see here is just the tip of the iceberg," Clover said with great pride. Talking about human civilization clearly brought him joy.
Rayleigh looked up at the shelves and nodded. "It's truly impressive."
Reid scanned the shelves with full focus and silently activated the system:
"System, collect!"
Shua—
One by one, cards appeared before Reid's eyes. His consciousness entered the system, where he saw the documents neatly organized in a "Data" section—books lined up one after another.
"Open."
He tried opening one of the books.
"Success! Yes! Just as I expected."
In just a short time, Reid had scanned and archived all the books he saw into the system.
"Now, even if the Navy destroys this island, the data is safe with me. Wait—there should be a secret room too."
Reid turned to Dr. Clover. "Dr. Clover, please take us to the secret chamber where you study the Void Century."
As soon as he said this, all the scholars nearby stood up in alarm, their faces filled with panic and outrage.
Dr. Clover also grew more alert and looked at Reid sternly. "That place is off-limits to outsiders."
"Old man, we're being nice to you right now. But when the Navy arrives, you'll be killed on the spot," Marco said impatiently.
