One Piece: Start by Saving Roger, I Was Invited to Join the Crew

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Such Beautiful Words—Truly Shocking

Roger grinned at Whitebeard's remark.

"Haha! Comrades are everything. But people who are too cold-hearted never understand this truth. They don't realize that the greatest strength comes from unity. No matter how strong one man is, he can't win against thousands who dream of freedom and happiness."

Roger's eyes gleamed with sharp confidence.

Whitebeard studied him seriously. "Roger, no wonder you reached the end. You're a true captain. But…"

He paused.

He gestured broadly. "The world's vast—countless islands, endless seas, the Red Line blocking the way. For Joy Boy to appear… it won't be easy."

"Hahaha! I believe it's possible, Whitebeard," Roger laughed heartily. "And now that he's with us, I believe it even more."

Whitebeard's heart stirred—he knew Roger was talking about Reid.

"Perhaps fate really is at work here," he muttered.

"Fate?" Roger repeated with a grin. "Maybe so. I'm still alive and kicking, and my power keeps growing. I'll last another twenty years at this rate."

"That kid… Reid. He's the Son of Destiny."

Roger recalled their first meeting. Hearing Whitebeard mention "destiny" now made him smile knowingly.

"If you need help when the time comes, I'll be there," Whitebeard offered.

"Haha! You're agreeing again?" Roger teased.

"Hahahaha! I just remembered… back under that cherry blossom tree, when you told me about the Will of D and the One Piece. It really moved me. Maybe this is fate."

Whitebeard couldn't help but look forward to that day. More than anything, he wanted to expand his family—his true treasure.

"Hahaha! That's the spirit, Whitebeard! Let's bring down the Celestial Dragons together and create a paradise of freedom and joy!"

The two legends raised their bowls and drank deeply.

Just then, chaos erupted nearby.

"Hey, sounds like a fight! Want to check it out?" Roger asked with a grin, clearly entertained.

"My sons are probably teaching some fools a lesson. As their father, I've got to support them," Whitebeard said with a smirk, standing up and grabbing his massive blade, Cong Yunqie.

"Why so much noise up ahead? A battle?"

Rob Lucci had just reached the island's edge. He was using only minimal Rokushiki techniques—after all, a six-year-old moving at full speed would raise suspicions.

Sensing something unusual, Lucci cautiously increased his speed.

Meanwhile, Reid and his comrades were already engaged in fierce combat on the shoreline, facing wave after wave of pirate ships.

"I'm Reid! Are you here for me? Hahaha! Blame your fate, not me!"

Reid stood proudly. Not only had he awakened his Conqueror's Haki, but he was also surrounded by loyal allies. He wasn't afraid of these pirates at all.

Besides, his Devil Fruit power wouldn't remain secret for long—he'd be exposed within days anyway.

"So this is Reid… with the form of a Great Buddha? I heard the Navy's Sengoku has the Mythical Zoan, Human-Human Fruit: Model Buddha too!"

"Hahaha! The newspaper was right! This guy must be hiding an earth-shattering secret!"

"Reid holds a secret greater than the One Piece! We have to capture him!"

"Yeah! Work together! If we catch him, we'll share a fortune!"

Madness lit up the pirates' eyes as they shouted from their ships, driven by greed.

"Damn it! Stop adding your own lines! The newspaper said 'no less than,' not more than! TAKE THIS—Mighty Heavenly Dragon Palm!!"

Reid launched himself into the sky and sent a barrage of shockwaves at a pirate ship.

"Quick! Change course!"

"Too late, Captain! Abandon ship!"

"Idiots! Don't run—we're here to catch Reid!"

But instead of the target ship, another nearby vessel was obliterated—blown apart and billowing black smoke. Its crew plunged into the sea.

The pirates went pale. They thought Reid had destroyed the ship with terrifying precision, and his earlier vulgar outburst had shocked them. They'd never heard anyone curse like that before.

Everyone froze in stunned silence—even Reid's allies were momentarily speechless.

"Huh? I aimed at that ship. Why'd it veer off?" Reid muttered in confusion.

His companions didn't know what he was thinking. They were still recovering from the sheer force of his swearing.

"So scary… I thought Uncle Bucky's swearing was bad, but compared to Reid? His curses make ours sound polite," Bucky admitted, arms spread wide, face exaggerated in shock.

"Reid's not just a healer and a warrior—he's a master of verbal attacks too!" Shanks said, eyes gleaming with newfound admiration.

"Brother Reid, you're amazing. I've never heard curses like yours before," said Taro, his hand trembling on his sword.

Even veterans like Rayleigh, Jabba, Bista, and Lakyo looked shaken.

"…Seems I still don't fully know Reid," Rayleigh said flatly, though his insides were far from calm.

"Quite… impolite," he added quietly.

"Agreed," Jabba nodded, eye twitching.

"What… did Reid say just now? 'I cnm'? How could he say something so rude?" Marco's droopy eyes flew open in shock.

Reid, oblivious to their reactions, might've laughed if he knew. In his hometown, colorful language was practically an art form—it made people question their very existence.

By now, Rob Lucci had found a vantage point behind a boulder. From there, he clearly saw Reid's giant Buddha form.

"No wonder the higher-ups sent us to investigate. At first, we thought it was a joke. But now I see… we really are the best scouts."

He crouched, staying low.

"This spot's good. Any closer and we'll be spotted."

Meanwhile, a pirate leader raised his sword high.

"Let's storm the island! We outnumber them—there's no way we can lose! The treasure is right there!"

"For the treasure!!"

Driven mad by greed, the pirates charged, forgetting entirely that one of their ships had just been annihilated.

"Hahaha, today's gonna be fun."

Nozton grinned like a butcher, wielding twin blades.

"I'll handle these grunts myself," Reid said, rushing forward.

"Wait, Reid, don't go alone! Let's fight together!" Mireille Pine called after him, concerned.

There were hundreds of ships—each with dozens of pirates. Thousands, possibly tens of thousands of enemies.

"It's fine, Brother Pine. I'll test their strength. If I can't handle it, you can jump in later."

"…Alright then. Hahaha! Brother Reid, you're bold!"

Pine stopped in place. Since Reid insisted, he wouldn't interfere.

"He's quite the character," Marco said with a grin.

Reid reached the shore and raised his hands. A storm of giant palms followed.

"Buddha's Hand Shockwave!!"
