Chapter 22: The Sing-Sing Fruit and Uta's Terrifying Idea

Louis, who had originally been uninterested in these things, had a thought after hearing the crew's conversation. Could it be the fruit I'm looking for?

Once this idea arose, it quickly took over his mind, compelling him to walk over and get closer to the crowd. The members of the Red Hair Pirates at this point in time looked very much like small-fry; their builds and heights weren't too exaggerated. With Louis's height, he could easily see the fruits lying quietly in the wooden chests.

One of them was a pale pink color overall, with wave-like patterns on its surface and a stem shaped like a musical note. It was the Paramecia-type Sing-Sing Fruit, the fruit that originally belonged to Uta. It possessed the ability to pull people's consciousness into a world of music constructed by song. Furthermore, after performing a specific musical score, it could even release a nearly unstoppable monster—Tot Musica, the Song Demon King. The drawback was that this fruit did not enhance one's physical abilities. If the user's stamina was poor, they would have to sacrifice their life force to perform for long periods. All in all, its advantages were great enough to overshadow its flaws.

The other wooden chest, however, contained two strange fruits connected by a single stem. Both were the size and shape of ordinary apples. One was pink with a fish-scale pattern on its surface. The other was purple, with a pattern resembling feathers.

As Louis watched, Shanks and the others picked up the fruit, held it under the sun, and examined it with curiosity.

"A twin fruit... one with a scale pattern, one with a feather pattern." Louis's gaze was distant, his face a mixture of shock and uncertainty. "To think I'd run into it here..."

"It's a small world..."

An elderly figure appeared in his mind—the previous owner of this fruit.

Soon, Limejuice, with his long blond hair, walked out of the cabin. In his hand was a well-preserved Devil Fruit encyclopedia. Just then, Yelena heard the commotion and walked closer, a thoughtful look on her face as she watched the scene unfold. She then turned her head to Louis with a confused expression. "Didn't you say that Devil Fruits are extremely rare on the sea?"

It had only been a little over ten hours since she had eaten the Wendigo fruit last night. But in such a short time, two more precious Devil Fruits had appeared before her eyes. This made her a little confused. Were Devil Fruits really that precious?

"..."

Her companion, Louis, fell silent. He didn't know how to answer that question either.

Just then, an exclamation came from the crowd. "Found it!" Shanks shouted. "This one is... the Paramecia-type Sing-Sing Fruit."

"After eating the fruit, the user will gain a dream-like singing voice and can pull people's consciousness into a world built by song..."

"The Sing-Sing Fruit?" At the front of the crowd, Uta subconsciously repeated the words. Her purple eyes grew brighter, and an eager smile appeared on her face. "Pulling people's consciousness into a world of song... that sounds so interesting!"

A moment later, the rest of the Red Hair Pirates gradually turned to look at Uta. Based on the description, they all agreed that this Sing-Sing Fruit seemed exceptionally suited for Uta, who already aspired to be an outstanding musician. Even Shanks had a thoughtful expression on his face as he glanced at his adopted daughter, muttering to himself, "The Sing-Sing Fruit... it really is perfect for Uta."

Hearing this, a brilliant smile lit up Uta's face. Although she had anticipated this, she was still overjoyed to hear the answer with her own ears. The others saw this and exchanged smiling glances.

Then, Uta gently tugged on Shanks's sleeve, her purple eyes blinking and watery. "Shanks, I want this fruit."

Shanks was taken aback, then quickly smiled, preparing to hand the fruit to Uta. But just then, Yelena, with a puzzled look, threw out a question.

"Uta, do you want this fruit to make your singing voice even more beautiful?"

To this, Uta put her hands on her hips, her fair face full of pride. "My singing voice is already on a whole different dimension from other musicians! I don't need a Devil Fruit to improve it at all!"

The crew was stunned. They gradually realized something was wrong. If it wasn't for her singing, then why did Uta want the Sing-Sing Fruit? For a moment, a faint sense of unease began to creep into the hearts of the Red Hair crew.

"..."

Shanks gradually narrowed his eyes. He subtly tossed the Sing-Sing Fruit in his hands to Yasopp, then reached out and patted Uta's head, asking in a doting tone, "Uta, if it's not about your singing... what do you want to do with the Sing-Sing Fruit?"

To this, Uta threw her arms up high, a blissful smile on her face as she described her vision to the crew: "It's the world built by song!"

"..." The faces of the crew changed. Their unease had become reality.

Uta's words continued, "I want to create a world of music, and live happily in that world forever with you, Shanks, and with Louis, and with Yelena!"

"..."

Yelena didn't understand what Uta meant and looked completely baffled. But Louis, Shanks, and the rest of the Red Hair Pirates' faces changed completely. Shanks and his men, in particular, looked utterly horrified, staring at their adopted daughter as if meeting her for the first time.

Louis felt extremely speechless. You really don't have to include me and Yelena in this, he thought.

Just then, Beckman's voice came from the other side of the deck. "What about our bodies then? If everyone is living in another world, we'll starve to death!"

Hearing Beckman's voice, Uta's eyes lit up. She cleared her throat and said with a smile, "Happiness doesn't need a physical body!"

"..."

At these words, the hearts of Shanks and the Red Hair crew finally sank to rock bottom. Out of Uta's sight, they all looked at her with complicated expressions. They couldn't understand how, right under their noses, Uta could have developed such a dangerous idea.

For a moment, the thought of giving the Sing-Sing Fruit to Uta was completely crushed in Shanks's mind. What pained him most was that they hadn't noticed this tendency in Uta sooner. If not for Yelena's casual question, they might not have discovered Uta's true thoughts until who knows when. Judging by Uta's past behavior, they probably wouldn't have found out until she was about to put her plan into action.

Guilt, pain, and other emotions surged up, casting a thick shadow over their hearts.

After a brief moment of shock, Beckman took the cigarette from his mouth, slowly walked over to Uta, and knelt down, stroking her head.

"If... if Shanks and I and the others don't like that world... would you still take us to that world of song?"
