Chapter 143: Chapter 143: King vs. King - Overpowering Kaido
"Boss, it's him! He took the treasures from the vault, stole the Devil Fruit, and even took the Road Poneglyph!" Jack pointed accusingly at Kuke and his crew.
Kaido, however, showed no change in his expression.
Though his heart ached, his face remained impassive. Instead, he scolded Jack:
"Shut up! The winner takes it all, isn't that how it goes? That's the law of the sea. When I wasn't here, they were the victors, and they had every right to claim everything."
As Kaido finished speaking, he fixed his fierce eyes on Kuke, flashing his sharp teeth: "Of course, if I win now, I'll take everything back."
Kaido, always spewing tough words, stared intensely at Kuke.
He noticed that Kuke wasn't even looking at him.
Veins bulged on Kaido's forehead.
Kuke's gaze was fixed behind Kaido, on Black Maria.
Currently, she was the only member of the Beast Pirates that Kuke found worth recruiting.
"Black Maria, how about you join my crew?" Kuke offered.
"Me?" Black Maria pointed at herself, taken aback.
Even though they were enemies, she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Her elegant eyebrows arched slightly.
"Being chosen by a legend is an honor, but I'm afraid... I've already pledged my loyalty," she said, throwing Kuke a flirtatious smile.
"Damn it, you dare to poach my people right in front of me?" Kaido's massive frame stepped in to block Kuke's view of Black Maria, reacting far more intensely than anyone expected.
Kaido glared furiously at Kuke.
"Forget about Kaido," Kuke ignored Kaido and continued speaking to Black Maria.
Kaido: "...."
Rage exploded in Kaido's chest.
"And I haven't even settled the matter of you taking my daughter. And now you're trying to poach my people too?" Kaido snarled.
His eyes shifted to Yamato.
"Yamato, get back here! This is your last chance—come back obediently," Kaido commanded.
"Hah! Dream on!" Yamato scoffed. "I'm now a combatant of the Sun and Moon Pirates."
A murderous glint filled Kaido's eyes.
"I'm not negotiating with you," Kaido said coldly, giving Yamato one last look before turning to Gion.
He was well aware that Gion possessed the Mythical Zoan, Phoenix Fruit, a power that he deeply coveted.
He was about to extend an invitation.
If Kuke could try to poach his people...
Then Kaido could do the same.
Kaido opened his mouth to speak.
Gion gave him a cold stare: "You aren't worthy."
Kaido: "....."
The words got stuck in his throat.
A fierce aura burst uncontrollably from Kaido.
"Boss, stop talking to them! Beat them, and then everything will be ours!" Jack shouted.
"You arrogant brat. Today, with your boss here, I won't go easy on you." Shakky took a drag of her cigarette.
Ignoring the thousands of pirates, she strolled leisurely towards Jack.
Jack shivered.
Instinctively, he tried to blend back into the crowd behind him.
"Shakky the Witch, we're back now. You won't have your way anymore," King, holding his sword, dashed forward like a black shadow, the ground cracking under his feet.
He slashed towards Shakky.
"Clang!"
King's blade was blocked by another sword.
"King, the second-in-command of the Beast Pirates." Gion coldly stared at King: "A bit disappointing."
Phoenix flames burst forth from Gion.
She increased her strength.
King, in disbelief, looked at Gion.
He transformed into his Ancient Zoan Pteranodon hybrid form, but he was still sent flying, crashing into the crowd of pirates. Many unlucky ones didn't even have time to scream before they were crushed.
Kaido's pupils widened in shock as he watched Gion.
So strong?
It hadn't seemed like she was this powerful on the video footage.
The once-arrogant Beast Pirates looked at the fallen King in terror.
King was recognized as their number two, the top All-Star.
And Gion was likewise the acknowledged number two of the Sun and Moon Pirates.
But the gap seemed enormous.
"King, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." King propped himself up with his sword and slowly stood up.
He wasn't injured.
This allowed his horrified comrades to breathe a sigh of relief.
"I'll take care of the All-Stars myself." Gion declared boldly.
She had been looking forward to a strong opponent.
But it turned out that the number two of the Beast Pirates was nothing special. She was disappointed.
"What did you say?" Queen, one of the All-Stars, glared furiously at Gion.
They were All-Stars!
And she said she would take on both of them alone?
Who did she think she was?
"Are there only two All-Stars?" Gion frowned.
King and Queen's faces turned green.
"You're asking for it."
The two roared in unison, charging towards Gion.
"Looks like there aren't any worthy opponents here," Shakky said lazily, puffing her cigarette, ignoring the thousands of pirates.
It was as if she was saying:
Why are you all so weak? Where are the real strong ones?
"Are you looking down on us, witch?" Fukurokuju, one of the Flying Six, glared at Shakky.
"You?" Shakky pointed to Jack: "Join forces. Maybe you can last a little longer."
"Damn it! Who do you think you're looking down on?"
"Everyone, attack together!"
"Let's show them what we're made of!"
The entire Beast Pirates were enraged.
They roared.
Swinging their weapons, they charged like a tidal wave.
"Scared of you?" Yamato grabbed her Kanabo, full of spirit.
"Relying on numbers is ridiculous! Just a bunch of stinking men. My sister could take care of you all instantly," Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold looked at their elder sister.
With her power.
These guys didn't stand a chance.
"My charm is only for the captain." Boa Hancock did not use her ability to petrify them.
"Alright, stop staring. Go enjoy the fight. I've got your backs." Stussy pushed Kuina and the others forward.
"Boom—"
The battle broke out.
Kaido watched the battle that erupted instantly.
He stood there in a daze.
The one-sided fight he had expected was nowhere to be seen. Their advantage in numbers seemed to be unreliable.
"What an enviable crew," Kaido muttered, jealousy blazing in his eyes.
He quickly turned to Kuke.
Only one thought in his mind: defeat him.
A king against a king.
No words were necessary.
Both wielded their weapons, the aura between them enough to shake the heavens.
"I'm not like Sengoku. Your crew is impressive, but mine is numerous. No one is coming to help you."
"Thunder Bagua!"
Kaido swung his massive kanabo, the whistling sound of the weapon slicing through the air overpowering the battlefield.
"Yama King Descends!"
Kuke swung his broadsword.
Their weapons clashed, like two islands colliding. The unmatched shockwave exploded from the battlefield's center.
Everything within hundreds of meters was blown away.
The others moved away from the battlefield.
The earth cracked, boulders flew everywhere.
The ground sank beneath them.
Two auras formed an invisible wall, dividing the battlefield, their force causing cracks to spread.
A golden-red mixture of Haoshoku Haki and Busoshoku Haki covered Kuke. Kaido's body also crackled with dark red lightning, using the same kind of Haki.
The energy surged into the sky.
The heavens split open.
"This is impossible?" Kaido's feet were planted in the ground, being pushed backward.
Kaido couldn't believe it. He was losing in terms of raw power.
"I am Kaido!" he roared, quickly transforming into his strongest hybrid form.
He steadied himself.
The next moment.
Kuke's arm muscles bulged, power coursing through them, visible shockwaves radiating from his arm.
He watched as Kaido, eyes filled with disbelief, was forced backward.
"Who gave you the impression that we needed to team up to defeat Sengoku?"
"Boom!"
Kaido stomped down hard, a crack spreading for a thousand meters, using his kanabo to steady himself, looking up, shocked, at Kuke.
"Is this a fight?"
Far away, Kozuki Hiyori stared at the apocalyptic scene, her world crumbling.
