One Piece: Trainer of Kings

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Pirates Among Pirates

"Thank you... thank you all..."

Nami's carefully maintained composure finally crumbled. She covered her mouth with both hands as tears streamed down her cheeks in silent rivers, each drop carrying years of accumulated pain and desperate hope.

These crystalline tears fell like burning embers into the hearts of her crewmates, igniting a fierce rage that made them itch to sail immediately to Cocoyasi Village and reduce the Arlong Pirates to ashes and memory.

"Akira, let's go straight to Cocoyasi Village!" Luffy clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white, his voice carrying the promise of violence.

"No problem!" Akira smiled with grim satisfaction, his strategic mind already calculating their approach.

"Actually, the direction we originally planned works perfectly to reach Cocoyasi Village. But before we confront Arlong..." His expression became more serious. "We need to recruit two more crew members first."

"Partners?!" Luffy's eyes widened in surprise, momentarily distracted from his burning anger by the mention of that particular word.

He glanced at Nami's tear-stained face and seemed to realize that this was not the right moment to ask questions about new nakama. Instead, he turned back to their navigator with a fierce determination burning in his dark eyes.

"Don't worry, Nami!" He thumped his chest with absolute conviction. "I will definitely help you destroy those Arlong pirates!"

Zoro remained silent, but the deadly glint in his eyes and the way his hand rested on his sword hilt spoke volumes about his intentions. He was ready to cut down anyone who dared to hurt one of their own.

But suddenly, Akira interjected with a tone that carried a dangerous promise: "Just beating them up won't be enough, Luffy.

"Evil must be met with evil. Blood debts must be paid with blood!"

His voice hardened like tempered steel as he continued, "If we don't eliminate every last one of those fishmen, how can we honor the souls of all those they murdered? How can we make them pay for daring to torment our navigator?"

"Such crimes can only be atoned for with their death!"

Akira gently supported the weeping Nami, his hand resting protectively on her shoulder as he spoke with quiet authority: "Leave everything to us."

"Yes!" Nami nodded vigorously, her voice thick with emotion.

For the first time since the loss of her adoptive mother Bellemere, she felt the comfort of having someone to rely on, someone strong enough to shoulder her burdens and face the darkness that had consumed her life.

Leaning against Akira's solid presence, she covered her face as she silently repeated her gratitude over and over again.

Thank you, Akira.

The sea breeze picked up as the blazing afternoon sun reached its zenith, but Nami's emotional confession hadn't slowed their progress. Despite carrying two tons of specialized training equipment, their small vessel cut a clean white wake across the blue waters toward their next destination.

Just before dinner time, they finally glimpsed the harbor of their destination island rising from the horizon.

"Woo-hoo! Finally, we can get some real food!" Luffy jumped to the bow as soon as they entered the harbor, his voice echoing over the water with infectious enthusiasm.

But his celebration was cut short by Nami's mournful voice from behind him: "I'm so sorry that I can't cook properly..."

Luffy went rigid with panic, cold sweat beading on his forehead as he spun around with an awkward laugh. "Aha, no, no, no! Lunch was... was perfectly fine! Really tasty, actually!"

He accompanied his obvious lie with all his trademarks: pursed lips, nervous head-scratching and eyes that didn't quite meet hers.

Despite her emotional breakdown that morning, Nami had still been the only one on board capable of preparing their midday meal. Granted, her cooking skills were limited and her kitchen equipment was barely functional at best.

The result had been something that couldn't be called mediocre, it was more like chewing tasteless cardboard. Even Luffy, who had once eaten a Devil Fruit without flinching, had struggled to finish his portion.

That's why he was so excited to reach civilization again, where there might be restaurants and actual cooks.

Unfortunately for his culinary dreams, this particular island held nothing but disappointment.

For this island contained only one town... and it had already been completely conquered by the Buggy Pirates: Orange Town!

"How strange... where is everyone?" Luffy wandered through the eerily quiet streets of Orange Town, a hand pressed against his rumbling stomach as he voiced his confusion.

The shops that lined both sides of the main street stood abandoned and desolate, their broken windows and scattered merchandise telling a story of recent chaos. This place felt more like a ghost town than the thriving community they'd expected.

Zoro frowned as he surveyed their surroundings with a warrior's eye for detail. "Something is definitely wrong here."

"I've heard of Orange Town's reputation, this place should be bustling with activity, not dead as a graveyard."

Orange Town was famous throughout the East Blue for producing the finest oranges available. In a world dominated by seafaring, citrus fruits weren't just a luxury, they were essential for preventing scurvy and keeping crews healthy on long voyages.

Combined with Orange Town's reputation for exceptional fruit quality, the settlement would have been a major trading hub with merchant ships constantly coming and going. The residents should have lived comfortable, prosperous lives.

But the current silence was in stark contrast to everything Zoro had heard about this place.

Nami, watching her confused crewmates, shook her head with a mixture of annoyance and sympathy. "You two really don't pay any attention to current events, do you?"

"Haven't you heard any of the gossip in Shells Town?" She gestured to the empty buildings around them. "This city has been occupied by pirates!"

Akira chimed in with perfect timing: "Looks like your hopes for a decent meal are dashed, Luffy."

"What?!" Luffy's face fell like a deflated balloon, the light in his eyes dimming with deep disappointment.

However, Akira's next words quickly rekindled his enthusiasm.

"Don't look so defeated, think bigger here!" Akira grinned and gave his captain an encouraging pat on the shoulder.

"Sure, the town's been taken over and all the restaurants are closed. But think about it: any pirate crew brave enough to take over an entire settlement must be pretty big."

"Which means they probably have several cooks in their ranks."

His smile turned predatory. "We're pirates too, right? We can just force them to cook for us!"

"Best of all, it won't cost us a single berry!"

"Free food always tastes better!"

"Akira, you're a genius!" Nami's eyes literally sparkled with dollar signs at the mention of something free.

Luffy perked up immediately, his depression disappearing like morning mist. "You're absolutely right! This is brilliant thinking!"

He pumped his fist in the air with renewed vigor. "Alright! New plan, we find those pirates and make them cook us a feast!"

"By the way, Akira, do you know where this pirate crew is?"

Luffy turned to his second-in-command with complete confidence, having long since come to rely on Akira's seemingly endless knowledge.

But before Akira could answer...

BOOM!!!

A thunderous explosion erupted from another section of Orange Town, the shock wave shattering windows and sending a pillar of smoke into the clear blue sky. The blast was powerful enough to get their immediate attention.

"Trouble!" Zoro's hand flew to his sword hilt as he shifted to a fighting stance, his instincts screaming warnings.

Akira, on the other hand, looked at the dissipating cloud of smoke with a knowing grin and answered Luffy's question: "Originally, I wasn't sure."

"But now... I know exactly where they are!"

Meanwhile, on top of one of Orange Town's tallest buildings, a group of pirates dressed like circus performers cheered and celebrated with wild enthusiasm:

"Buggy Bomb! Buggy bomb! Buggy Bomb!"

Their rhythmic chanting echoed over the rooftops as they celebrated the successful test of their fearsome new weapon.

At the center of this colorful crowd stood a man whose appearance was impossible to ignore. His most prominent feature was an enormous red nose that dominated his face, while an orange captain's hat sat jauntily atop his blue hair. This was clearly their leader, and he was laughing with manic glee.

"Wahahahaha! The Buggy Bomb is finally complete!" he cackled, spreading his arms wide in theatrical triumph.

"Now, with my Devil Fruit powers combined with this incredible weapon, I have everything I need to conquer the Grand Line!"

"Wahahahaha!"

Buggy the Clown threw back his head and laughed before raising a gloved hand high above the crowd.

"My loyal crew! To celebrate this momentous achievement..." His grin widened impossibly. "Let's throw the biggest party this town has ever seen!"

"YEAAAH!" The assembled pirates roared their approval, their voices carrying through the deserted streets.

As a former member of the legendary Roger Pirates, Buggy had inherited one of that crew's most cherished traditions: no matter what happened, good or bad, it was always an excuse for a party!

This festive attitude had shaped the culture of his entire crew, making them more like a traveling circus than a traditional pirate band, which suited their captain's flamboyant personality perfectly.

But just as the pirates continued their raucous cheering and began to prepare for their feast, a voice, drooling with anticipation, suddenly echoed from somewhere above them:

"A party?! Did someone say PARTY?!"
