One Piece: Trainer of Kings

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: The Navigator's Awakening Power

As Akira's words hung in the air between them, Nami's mind raced through the implications of what he was offering. The chance to personally defeat Arlong, to make the monster who destroyed her childhood pay with his own hands, burned through her mind like wildfire.

Even if I have to multiply Luffy and Zoro's allowances many times over, she decided with fierce determination, I will convince them to let me use their game time. I need that power. I must be the one to bring this bastard down.

The decision crystallized in her heart with such intensity that she could almost feel her resolve take physical form. Years of helpless rage and buried dreams of vengeance suddenly had a path to reality.

But before she could voice her commitment, a small chiming sound drew her attention to something glittering in the grass at her feet.

"Oh!" Nami exclaimed, her Pickup ability activating automatically. Bending down, she pulled out what appeared to be a collection of colorful, candy-like objects that seemed to pulsate with their own inner light.

Akira's eyes widened in recognition and delight as he examined her findings. "Incredible! HP Up, Protein, Calcium and Iron, these are stat-enhancing items that directly increase a Pokémon's basic attributes!"

He gestured enthusiastically as he explained their functions. "These four types of supplements can increase HP, physical attack, special attack, and physical defense, respectively. They're incredibly valuable for early development."

Without hesitation, Akira encouraged Nami to consume the items immediately. "Go ahead, eat them now while they have maximum effect."

"Wait, shouldn't we save them for Luffy and the others?" Nami protested, even though her fingers were already tingling in anticipation of the power they promised.

Akira shook his head with a knowing smile. "Those special enhancements only work effectively on Pokémon with attribute values below 50. Luffy and Zoro have far exceeded those limits, they're beyond what ordinary enhancement items can provide."

As Nami tentatively bit into the first candy, waves of energy immediately surged through her body. Her muscles felt denser, her reflexes sharper, her overall constitution more robust. Even her level 12 status had its limits; after consuming five of the items, her HP reached the 50 point threshold and she could only manage one more vitality supplement.

"The power of your Pickup ability is even more impressive than I originally calculated," Akira mused, studying the readings on his internal interface with obvious satisfaction.

The stat boosts from the candies provided immediate, noticeable improvements that would have taken several levels to achieve naturally. Even though the items had restrictions on their use, their efficiency for rapid power increases was undeniable.

"I'll dedicate another hour to searching for the Rare Candy," Akira announced, his strategic mind already calculating the optimal allocation of resources. "If we can't find it by then, we'll go directly to the grasslands between Cerulean City and Mt. Moon for intensive training."

His expression became more animated as he outlined their training strategy. "The wild Pokémon in this area range from level 8 to 12, practically useless for Luffy and Zoro's current development, but perfect for your progress. More importantly, unlike the Trainer Battles where I have to stay on the sidelines..."

A predatory grin spread across his features. "When it comes to fighting wild Pokémon, I can join the battle at your side. Our combined efforts might even exceed Luffy's solo experience gains."

The prospect of finally putting his own enhanced abilities to use filled Akira with anticipation. For too long, he'd been relegated to the role of strategic coordinator while his crewmates did the actual fighting. Now, with Nami as his partner, he could demonstrate the full extent of his skills as a trainer.

"Besides, the higher your level, the more valuable items your Pickup ability can discover," he added pragmatically. "It's an investment that pays for itself."

With their plan in place, Akira led Nami through a systematic search of Cerulean City's hidden corners and secret locations. The enhanced virtual environment had faithfully reproduced every hidden item from the original games, but finding them required patience and methodical exploration.

Her persistence paid off beyond his most optimistic expectations.

Thirty minutes later, just as Nami's pick-up ability was pulling two more bottles of medicine out of the seemingly empty air, they discovered their ultimate prize, hidden in a Poké Ball under a clump of ornamental bushes.

"I found it!" Akira's triumphant cry echoed across the digital plaza as he opened the container.

Inside was a single piece of candy that looked deceptively ordinary, a translucent crystal wrapped in a simple package with no outward sign of the miraculous power it contained. But the moment Akira removed it from the Poké Ball, system information flooded his mind.

[Item: Rare Candy] [Effect: Use on 1 Pokémon to increase its level by 1.]

The elegant simplicity of that description belied the immense value of what they'd discovered. In a world where levels determined the fundamental limits of power and ability, instant advancement was nothing short of miraculous.

"Today's gaming session was extraordinarily profitable," Akira said with deep satisfaction, carefully placing the Rare Candy in his virtual inventory.

His mind was already racing over the strategic implications. "With this boost, Luffy should be able to focus on perfecting his Armament Haki mastery in the real world instead of grinding experience against weak virtual opponents."

The ripple effects would be significant for the entire crew dynamic. "Luffy's accelerated progress will push Zoro to train even harder, while your own development towards revenge against Arlong will motivate everyone to reach new heights."

Akira's grin became almost manic with anticipation. "The competitive atmosphere among the Straw Hat Pirates is about to become incredible! In this world, you either push yourself to the limit or you are left behind by those who do!"

His voice carried the fervor of one who understood that the challenges ahead would demand nothing less than perfection from each crew member.

"Let's go!" he declared, gesturing toward the outskirts of the city with renewed urgency. "Time to level up!"

"If you want to make Arlong pay for what he's done, you'll have to adapt to Pokémon battle rhythms as soon as possible!"

Nami's excitement was palpable as golden electricity danced across her skin, responding to her emotional state with visible manifestations of power. Her Navigator training had already made her competent with weapons, and she could wield her three-section staff with fluid grace, adjusting its length and configuration for different combat situations.

Even in the original timeline, after acquiring her climate staff, she'd been able to hold her own against New World pirates through clever use of weather manipulation. Her tactical intelligence had always been formidable; only her physical limitations had prevented her from reaching her full potential.

But now, with the Pokémon Enhancement System providing pathways to supernatural strength, those limitations were quickly becoming irrelevant. The possibility of becoming a true Weather Queen, controlling lightning and storms with the authority of an emperor, no longer seemed like a distant fantasy.

"Don't worry, Akira!" Nami's voice rang with fierce determination, electric energy crackling in her amber eyes as battle fever took hold. "I won't let you down!"

With only an hour of battery life left, she was eager to meet the creatures of this virtual world and put her newfound skills to use. The cute Pokémon she'd heard so much about would become stepping stones on her path to revenge.

Minutes later, they reached a lush jungle area where tall grass swayed gently in the digital breeze. As they stepped onto the training grounds, the vegetation rustled with hidden movement.

A level 8 Psyduck emerged from the undergrowth with an adorable tilt of its head, looking at the two humans with innocent curiosity. Its yellow form practically glowed with wholesome charm.

"Aww! It's so cute!" Nami exclaimed, her hands flying to her cheeks as maternal instincts overwhelmed her fighting mentality.

The next second, her expression changed to a predatory focus.

"Buzzy Buzz!"

"Quack, quack!"

The hapless Psyduck's confused squawk was cut short as devastating electrical energy coursed through its system. Between Nami's type advantage and level superiority, the poor creature was instantly overwhelmed, its eyes turning into spirals as it collapsed unconscious.

The brief battle arena dissolved around them, returning to the peaceful jungle atmosphere as if nothing had happened.

Akira felt his eye twitch involuntarily as he processed what he had just witnessed. The speed with which Nami had gone from admiring the Pokémon's cuteness to ruthlessly eliminating it was truly disturbing.

Is that how women work? he wondered with a mixture of amusement and concern. Expressing affection one moment and delivering destruction the next?

But practical considerations quickly overrode his philosophical musings.

"Twenty-eight experience points," he noted with satisfaction, looking at the results of the battle. "That's significantly higher than Luffy's starting gain."

His strategic mind immediately began to calculate optimal advancement rates. With Nami's current level requiring less than 600 experience points to advance, and each wild Pokémon in the area providing 30 or more points...

"We could do two full level-ups in an hour," he murmured with growing excitement. "There's something deeply satisfying about cultivating power from the ground up."

The most common Pokémon in their chosen training area were Psyduck and Spearow, Water and Flying types that took massive damage from Nami's electric attacks. The matchup was so favorable, it almost felt unfair.

Perfect for rapid evolution, Akira thought with predatory satisfaction.

For the next hour, they methodically hunted through the digital wilderness, Nami's electrical techniques devastating every creature they encountered. Her power grew with each victory, her confidence growing as she witnessed firsthand how quickly supernatural strength could be acquired.

Just as the game system's battery indicator warned of an imminent shutdown, a brilliant light suddenly enveloped Nami's form. When the radiance faded, she had successfully advanced two full levels, reaching level 14 in a single intensive session.

Akira noted with interest that while Nami's overall talent could not match Luffy's raw potential, and her general attributes only increased by 2-3 points per level, her special attack development was extraordinary. With every level up, her magical power increased by a full 4 points.

At this rate of specialization, a level 30 Nami would have special attack stats that exceeded even the considerable power of level 46 Luffy.

Watching her crouch gracefully in the grass, still searching for more Pokémon to fight even though their session was nearing its end, Akira felt a smile tug at his lips.

"Perhaps it won't be long before the seas witness the rise of a forbidden sorceress whose very presence strikes terror into the hearts of her enemies," he murmured with anticipation.

The raw power of nature, when properly channeled and focused, commanded the respect of even the mightiest of opponents. And Nami was well on her way to mastering forces that could reshape the weather itself.

As the virtual world around them began to fade away, returning them to the peaceful reality of Kaya's mansion, Akira felt a deep satisfaction at their progress. The foundation for Nami's transformation into a true powerhouse had been successfully laid.

Soon, Arlong would learn that the helpless child he'd tormented for so many years had become something far more dangerous than he could ever imagine.
