Chapter 104: Chapter 104: The Power of the Float-Float Fruit(Fuwa Fuwa no Mi)
"Clang!!!"
A deafening metallic clash echoed through the tavern as Shiki's blade was intercepted. Seeing that a Marine had stepped in to block his strike, Shiki raised his eyebrows in mild surprise.
He had only meant to "casually" help Roger clear out some dead weight on his ship, but his slash wasn't something just anyone could block. This young Marine, who had met his attack head-on with a sword of blue ice, wasn't half bad.
"Hahaha!"
"Oi, oi, did I see that right?"
"A Marine just blocked my attack to protect a pirate?!"
Shiki burst into hearty laughter and lifted his sword, pointing it mockingly at Kuzan. By now, everyone in the tavern had realized what was happening. After hearing Buggy yell out "Golden Lion Shiki," the guests recognized the man who had just walked in.
All desire to stay and spectate vanished. The guests fled in a panic. The Marines who had been seated at the bar stood up and drew their rifles, forming a protective line behind Kuzan and training their barrels on Shiki.
Even Yoriichi Tsugikuni now stood at Kuzan's side, staring solemnly at the sword-wielding pirate before them.
"To think we'd encounter someone like you here, Golden Lion Shiki…"
"Hard to say whether our luck is good or bad."
Kuzan held his ice blade firmly with both hands. His expression was serious—he wasn't letting his guard down for a second.
"Hahahaha!"
"I didn't expect the Navy to show up here either."
"And even helping pirates avoid my blade?"
"Boy, are you planning to stop me?"
As Shiki spoke, his men behind him began to sneer as well. They drew their swords from their waists and surrounded the Marines.
Kuzan's team was small—only a dozen men, sent ashore to scout the area. Most of their forces remained on the ship.
Shiki's pirates, however, outnumbered the Marines two to one. They exuded a savage, ruthless aura—far stronger and fiercer than the Marines.
"Whether I intend to stop you doesn't matter."
"You're a pirate. If you plan to cause trouble, then we Marines are obligated to stop you."
"That's all there is to it."
As Kuzan finished speaking, his body dissolved into icy mist and vanished from view.
In the next moment, he reappeared behind Shiki. His ice blade swung downward, aiming directly for the pirate's back.
The moment Kuzan realized who they were dealing with, he had already made up his mind to fight.
Golden Lion Shiki was one of the most notorious pirates sailing the seas. A man on par with legends like Roger and Whitebeard, he had a staggering bounty of 3.7 billion berries—even higher than Roger's current figure before reaching Laugh Tale.
Unlike the Roger Pirates, Shiki was a true pirate, vicious, ambitious, and powerful. He lacked nothing.
From the moment he'd laid eyes on Shiki's crew, Kuzan knew they wouldn't escape without a brutal battle.
That's right, escape.
Kuzan had no illusions about defeating Shiki. He only hoped to buy enough time for his subordinates to get away.
As his blade fell toward Shiki's back, Kuzan shouted:
"Yoriichi, take the others and run!"
His ice blade closed in, but Shiki had already sensed him. The moment Kuzan appeared behind him, Shiki spun around, brandishing his own sword.
"So you dare strike first?"
"A Logia user, huh… That explains your arrogance."
With a swift motion, Shiki blocked Kuzan's attack.
Kuzan's ice blade, coated in Armament Haki, clashed against Shiki's legendary sword, Kogarashi, unleashing another piercing clang.
This time, Shiki wasn't holding back. The overwhelming force behind his swing sent fractures racing down Kuzan's ice blade.
"Heh… Die, Marine."
With a roar, Shiki drew his second blade from his waist and struck from the opposite side.
Golden Lion Shiki was a dual-sword swordsman!
Kuzan's Observation Haki warned him of the incoming blow, but his body couldn't keep up with his perception.
He tried to disperse into ice mist, but his elemental transformation wasn't fast enough. Shiki's blade closed in on his face.
"Boom!!!"
At that critical moment, a thunderous explosion rocked the tavern. A flash of movement disappeared from beside Shanks and Buggy.
"Clang!!!"
A sharp metallic echo rang out again. Shiki's smirk froze on his face—his lethal blow had been blocked.
Standing between him and Kuzan was a red-haired teenager, his blade raised in both hands, intercepting the fatal strike.
"He blocked it…"
"That Marine actually blocked Golden Lion Shiki's slash?!"
Shanks stared in disbelief at Yoriichi and Shiki locked in combat, eyes wide.
Just then, Buggy tugged his sleeve. Shanks turned, met Buggy's gaze, and gave a knowing nod. Quietly, the two began backing away toward the rear exit.
None of the Marines noticed them. Everyone's attention was locked on Yoriichi and Shiki.
Kuzan and Yoriichi noticed, of course, but they had no time to care.
Shiki merely glanced sideways at the two escaping boys, then refocused on the Marines before him.
Compared to Roger's brats, these two intrigued him far more.
"To think there are such promising young men among the Navy."
"If I let you go now, you might cause me trouble someday."
"Better to end it here."
"Hah!!"
With a low mutter, Shiki suddenly shouted.
As his voice echoed, the ground began to quake violently. The very floor beneath Yoriichi and Kuzan started to rise.
Shiki's own figure shot upward, bursting through the tavern roof and soaring into the sky.
Boom!!
Chunks of earth tore free from the ground. The tavern walls and ceiling crumbled under a powerful lift force.
The floor beneath Yoriichi and Kuzan rocketed into the air, quickly separating them from the earth.
As the two Marines rose skyward, Shiki's men launched their attack on the remaining forces below.
Cries of battle and screams of pain erupted on the ground.
Yoriichi heard the chaos below and tensed. Just as he prepared to unleash a flying slash, Shiki suddenly floated into view.
With no warning, Shiki swung his blade at him.
In midair, Yoriichi twisted instinctively, blocking with his sword.
But then, the floating ground beneath his feet suddenly lost lift. He felt his footing vanish.
With no support midair, Yoriichi couldn't stabilize his power. All he could do was raise his blade to parry.
"Boom!!!"
Shiki's blow landed with devastating force.
Yoriichi vanished from the sky in an instant. A cloud of dust exploded from the impact site, swallowing his figure.
Cracks spread out like a spiderweb from the point of impact, rupturing the earth below.
Shiki looked down with a wide grin, cigar still in his mouth, eyes now turning toward the other Marine floating nearby.
Kuzan.
