Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Post-Battle Growth
Even though Roger was angry, he felt helpless because he couldn't defeat Rocks, so he had to swallow his frustration.
"Captain, don't get any wild ideas, or our journey might come to an abrupt end," Rayleigh advised, noticing Roger's irritation.
He genuinely feared that Roger might impulsively lead the Roger Pirates into a confrontation with the Rocks Pirates.
If that happened, the Roger Pirates might be wiped out, and their journey would end there.
"Hahaha, Rayleigh, don't worry. I won't do anything foolish without a chance of defeating Rocks," Roger laughed aloud.
Roger could be stubborn and single-minded, but he wasn't brainless.
Charging headlong into an unwinnable fight was a quick way to die in this harsh world.
"That's good to hear. Your expression was a bit dangerous earlier," Rayleigh sighed in relief, reassured by Roger's reason.
"Oh, there's a new face in the Rocks Pirates. A young monster, just sixteen and already an officer. His future is limitless. If only we could recruit him," Roger mused, looking at the bounty poster of the new Rocks Pirates officer.
"Forget it. The Rocks Pirates are much stronger than us. There's no way you'd recruit him. Be realistic," Rayleigh said, rubbing his forehead.
"Come on, Rayleigh, you're underestimating us. We're the freest pirate crew in the world," Roger declared loudly.
"Yes, yes, but we're also almost out of money for a feast. As captain, maybe you should think about increasing our income? Otherwise, in two weeks, we'll be starving," Rayleigh said helplessly.
"Hahaha, Rayleigh, you're the vice-captain in charge of finances. You should handle that. Let's have a feast to celebrate the new young officer in the Rocks Pirates," Roger laughed, turning away from Rayleigh.
On the bustling island of Sterre, near the Red Line, Li Yuan's mentor, Louis, lived under an alias, leading a simple life.
"Li Yuan, it seems you're getting closer to your goal," Louis said, looking at the newspaper with Li Yuan's photo.
In the picture, Li Yuan stood with other officers of the Rocks Pirates and Rocks himself. The headline announced Li Yuan as the new officer of the Rocks Pirates.
Hive Island
After the feast, most pirates on the island were dead drunk, even Whitebeard, who had borrowed wine from Li Yuan, was snoring on the ground.
The island, once lively and noisy during the feast, suddenly became quiet.
After eating and drinking his fill, Li Yuan left the party and returned to his ship, as he wasn't accustomed to sleeping on the ground.
"Senior Brother, you're back!"
Even though it was already early morning, many of his junior brothers and Lazuli were waiting for Li Yuan.
Seeing him return, they were relieved and joyful.
"I've joined the Rocks Pirates and become an officer. If anyone causes you trouble on Hive Island and you can't handle it, just mention my name," Li Yuan said to his junior brothers, though they were weak, he remained loyal and wouldn't abandon them.
In this world, these junior brothers had grown alongside him, and he held a special affection for them.
He hoped that when he reached the pinnacle of swordsmanship and the world, they would be there to share in the joy and witness the world's beauty with him.
"An officer of the Rocks Pirates? That's amazing, Senior Brother!"
"Long live Senior Brother!"
"Senior Brother is incredible!"
Since Li Yuan had told them to stay on the ship, they were unaware of his promotion to officer, so they were thrilled to hear the news now.
"Alright, go get some rest."
Li Yuan waved them off to rest. Even if they weren't tired, he certainly was.
After fighting John all day, he was exhausted. Though his injuries and stamina had recovered, he was mentally drained.
Seeing Li Yuan going to rest, Lazuli followed him to ensure he rested well.
The next morning, his biological clock woke him. After getting up, he covered Lazuli with a blanket and left the room.
"Fighting someone stronger with all my might made me feel significantly stronger. My Armament Haki is now thicker, harder, and more solid."
"No wonder people say fighting strong opponents is the fastest way to improve."
Seeing his progress, Li Yuan couldn't help but reflect.
No wonder Luffy in the original story improved so quickly, always getting beaten half to death by enemies.
After recovering, he'd become much stronger and eventually defeat them.
Then, after defeating them, he'd be on the brink of death again, only to recover and experience another surge in strength.
This cycle of fighting, near-death, recovery, strength gain, enemy defeat, near-death, and recovery was typical.
Anyone unfamiliar might think Luffy had Saiyan physiology, gaining strength after every injury.
"However, such battles don't come around often, and this one was an exception."
In reality, opportunities to gain strength this way were rare.
Unlike a novel's plot, Li Yuan wouldn't gamble his life against someone stronger on the chance they wouldn't kill him.
