One Punch Man: Heroics Start with Dual Kamui

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Dragon-Level [Vaccine Man]

"Another monster, huh? Time to deliver justice."

Saitama immediately set the controller aside and paused the game. But just as he stood to change into his hero outfit and head out, he realized that Shinji, who had been right beside him moments earlier, was already gone.

"He moves fast... Guess he's already on it. I better get moving too," Saitama mumbled as he changed into his battle suit and rushed toward City A. This time, he didn't get lost.

Shinji had reached City A first. The instant he saw the news and suspected that the Dragon-level threat might be Vaccine Man, he used Kamui to teleport straight to the city. Though he hadn't yet placed a Flying Thunder God seal there, Kamui's nearly instant teleportation made that a non-issue.

Upon arrival, Shinji instantly spent the last of his system points to massively boost his physique and stockpile more Hashirama Cells. Facing a Dragon-level threat was no time to be conservative.

Boom!!

A deafening explosion rocked the city just then. The blast wave expanded at an incredible pace and reached Shinji almost instantly. Without hesitation, his Mangekyō Sharingan flared to life. Using his phasing ability, he allowed the explosion to pass through his body without any resistance. Around him, buildings were completely demolished in the blink of an eye, reduced to smoking rubble.

Shinji quickly noticed several enormous energy orbs tearing through the sky toward various parts of the city. That was unmistakably Vaccine Man's power. The creature was rumored to have been empowered by a mysterious "god," just like the Homeless Emperor.

Without wasting a second, Shinji leapt into action. Three space-time portals opened mid-air as he intercepted the incoming orbs. With precise timing, he redirected all three into his Kamui dimension, nullifying the threat before impact.

"?!"

When the expected explosions failed to occur, Vaccine Man looked genuinely stunned. Floating higher into the air, he launched a flurry of new energy orbs in every direction, filling the skyline with destruction.

But Shinji wasn't done. Using his dual Kamui powers, he summoned multiple portals at once and intercepted the orbs again, transferring them before they could strike.

"What is this?!" Vaccine Man roared, clearly rattled.

By then, Shinji had already pinpointed the monster's exact location. Suspended in the sky ahead of him was a powerful, muscular figure with a sharp, alien appearance that made him look uncannily like Piccolo from Dragon Ball.

In an instant, Shinji teleported directly in front of Vaccine Man and unleashed a rapid barrage of kunai, each one embedded with the Flying Thunder God seal.

Vaccine Man's reaction speed was nothing to scoff at. As a Dragon-level threat, he moved with impressive precision, shifting his head slightly to evade the kunai aimed at his face without breaking a sweat.

"Who are you?"

Vaccine Man didn't rush to attack. His tone was calm, probing, as he floated in the air with an eerie composure.

But Shinji had no interest in small talk.

The moment the kunai flew past Vaccine Man's ear and slipped behind him into a blind spot, Shinji vanished.

Flying Thunder God Slash.

In an instant, the crimson blade of Red Night materialized in his hand. He surged forward at a speed too fast for the naked eye to follow, aiming a perfectly timed slash at the unsuspecting monster. The strike came without warning, executed with flawless precision like a textbook first-strike kill technique.

Even for a Dragon-level threat like Vaccine Man, it was impossible to react in time.

By the time the monster realized anything was wrong, Shinji had already passed clean through its body and recalled all of his kunai.

"Gah!"

A mouthful of blood sprayed from Vaccine Man's mouth. Only then did it register that it had been wounded.

"Just a regular rookie hero," Shinji replied flatly, not even glancing back.

Vaccine Man twisted around, his body suddenly convulsing and mutating. With a deep roar, his form began to expand violently, swelling until he towered several dozen meters into the air. His head warped into a grotesque, monstrous shape, and razor-sharp claws, each several meters long, extended from both of his hands.

Even in the face of such a transformation, Shinji remained absolutely composed.

When those giant claws came crashing toward him, he didn't move. There was no need. The deadly blades swept right through his body as if he weren't even there.

"What?!"

Vaccine Man's eyes widened in disbelief. He was certain he had ripped the human to shreds, yet there was no blood, no damage. Nothing.

Without missing a beat, Shinji hurled another volley of kunai.

This time, Vaccine Man didn't even bother dodging. His massive form and monstrous defense made him supremely confident. The kunai struck his enormous head and bounced off harmlessly, no different from being pelted with pebbles.

But then came the twist.

Shinji infused Kamui's power directly into Red Night. The blade shimmered faintly, the air around it rippling with space-warping energy. It was as if the sword itself had been enchanted with another dimension.

With Kamui's spatial slicing now woven into Red Night, its edge was no longer constrained by physical resistance. No matter how impenetrable Vaccine Man's body seemed, it was irrelevant. Unless he could withstand the dissection of space itself, his monstrous defense meant nothing.

With a flash of movement, Shinji used Flying Thunder God to teleport directly to the kunai embedded in Vaccine Man's massive forehead. In one fluid, lethal motion, he swung Red Night—now infused with spatial energy—and decapitated the monster cleanly. The blade passed through flesh and bone as if it were air. It was as effortless as slicing through tofu. Vaccine Man's severed head plummeted to the ground with a heavy thud.

Even then, the monster wasn't entirely dead. Its eyes, wide with disbelief and fury, locked onto Shinji with venomous intent.

At that moment, Saitama finally arrived, dressed in his signature hero outfit. He paused, looking at the scene before him—Vaccine Man's beheaded corpse, the lingering energy in the air, and Shinji standing casually over the monster's fallen form.

"Huh? You already took care of him? Looks like I was late," Saitama said with a neutral expression as he glanced at the lifeless body. He didn't seem disappointed, only mildly curious. Recognition or fame had never mattered to him. If he really wanted credit, he could've crushed the monster with a single punch without waiting.

But suddenly, the severed head of Vaccine Man twitched. Energy orbs began rapidly condensing inside its open mouth as it tried to release a final, desperate attack.

Shinji didn't give it the chance. With a blink, he teleported the head directly into his Kamui dimension.

In an instant, Vaccine Man found itself in a pitch-black void—silent, hollow, and eternal. There was no up or down, no landmarks or orientation. Disoriented and confused, the creature hesitated. Even the charged energy orbs in its mouth stopped forming.

Then, without a sound, Shinji appeared behind it.

"Die or submit. Choose fast."

The voice pierced the silence like a knife. Startled, Vaccine Man tried to turn to face him. But being nothing more than a severed head, all it could do was awkwardly roll backward and press its forehead to the ground, twisting itself into a ridiculous upside-down angle just to make eye contact.

Its enormous, singular eye stared directly into Shinji's Mangekyō Sharingan. Though the eye was easily larger than Shinji's entire torso, it flickered, just for a moment, with the same crimson hue.

And then the light faded.
