Chapter 72: Chapter 72: A Special Connection
On the Eternal Frozen Island, a group of over a dozen people was patrolling the camp.
At the forefront was an elderly man with graying hair, who appeared to be over fifty. He was dressed in a white cloth under-armor beneath a finely crafted silver breastplate that faintly glimmered with frost. On his feet were white cloth shoes with golden patterns, giving him the air of a seasoned general from ancient times.
Of course, the quality of his armor was clearly superior, its defensive properties far beyond that of ordinary equipment.
Despite his age, the man showed no signs of frailty—his steps were brisk, his posture upright, and his gaze sharp.
"Huang Tong, this is our third attempt at hunting the Frozen Fishman Lord. How are the preparations?"
Following closely behind him was a man in his early forties, who hurried to match the elder's pace.
"Second Uncle…"
The elder turned his head slightly, his expression displeased. "In this setting, what should you call me?"
Huang Tong quickly corrected himself. "Yes, Third Elder. In the last two hunts, we failed because the Frozen Fishman Lord, when heavily wounded, unleashed an extreme frost storm."
"The storm freezes the muscles of ordinary people, slows blood flow, and drastically reduces mobility while activating the deep-cold bloodlines of all Frozen Fishmans, greatly enhancing their combat power. Coupled with the weakening of our forces, we failed to fend off the assaults from the commanders, warriors, and elites, ultimately losing the battles."
"However, after four months of recovery, our Black Tortoise Guild has grown stronger. This time, we're fully prepared to endure the Frozen Fishman Lord's last stand."
The Third Elder nodded slightly. "Four months have passed. Our ranks and equipment have improved significantly, and the team is more unified than before. Progress is expected."
"Even so, we cannot afford to be careless. The Frozen Fishman's initial skill sets also need to be approached with caution. We must avoid being caught off guard."
"We've made all the necessary arrangements and will not underestimate the enemy." Huang Tong assured him.
The Third Elder nodded in approval and gazed into the distance. His tone became somber. "Currently, Huaxia possesses seven Summoning Skulls. The Azure Dragon Guild holds two, while the Glory, Underworld, Demon Slayer, Heavenly Sword Guilds, and we each hold one."
"If we succeed in taking down the Frozen Fishman Lord, we'll match the Azure Dragon Guild. Our Black Tortoise Guild has been preparing for this hunt for eight months. This time, we must win!"
The group behind him voiced their agreement.
The Third Elder remained silent for a moment before turning around. "Little Xu, what's the status of the main assault team?"
A man in his thirties stepped forward. "In Jiangzhong Division's War God Hall, Black Tortoise Guild occupies 17 seats. Sixteen of them have already left the Beast God Battlefield and logged into the Heavenly Profession. They're currently resting up ahead. Jiang Fang will arrive early tomorrow morning."
"Seventeen members in the War God Hall?"
Huang Tong interjected quickly. "Third Elder, you've been busy developing the guild and haven't returned to Jiangzhong often. Over the past three years, six more members from Black Tortoise have entered the War God Hall."
"Impressive!" The Third Elder was pleased. "Jiang Fang is still leading, correct?"
"Yes. His strength ranks in the top five of Jiangzhong Division. If he passes the War God test this year, he might be transferred to War God Hall Headquarters," Xu responded.
"That kid is only thirty-two and has already achieved so much. Our Jiangzhong Division of Black Tortoise Guild has finally produced a super-strong combatant. With him here, I feel much more at ease."
The group echoed their admiration for Jiang Fang.
Relaxed now that preparations seemed thorough, the Third Elder scanned the team before frowning.
"Huang Tong, where's Huang Wei? I don't see him."
Huang Tong smiled slightly. Although his second uncle seemed stern, he clearly cared about the younger members of the Huang family.
"That kid was frustrated after his last setback. But after I asked him a single question, he snapped out of it. Since then, he's been crazily focused on improving himself. Right now, he's hunting Frozen Fishmans with his team on the outskirts of the island."
"Really? What did you ask him to inspire such a change?"
"I simply asked, 'Don't you want revenge?'" Huang Tong replied smugly.
The Third Elder imagined the scenario and smiled faintly after a moment. "The boy has top-tier talent and a promising profession, but he's always lacked perseverance. Facing setbacks seems to have done him good."
"That kid has potential!"
"Indeed," Huang Tong agreed.
Then the Third Elder's tone grew colder. "The one who killed Huang Wei before—his name was Jiang Kai, correct?"
"Yes."
The Third Elder narrowed his eyes slightly. "I'm sure the next time they meet, Huang Wei will avenge his past humiliation."
Jiang Kai activated his Phantom Suit's invisibility feature and quickly blended into the night.
Using its six-minute duration, he infiltrated the outskirts of the Eternal Frozen Island.
Considering the many experts present, some of whom might see through his stealth, Jiang Kai stayed cautious and kept his distance, patrolling the area instead of venturing too deep.
The sight of the bustling island shocked him once more.
In his time on Ghost Star, Jiang Kai had mostly dealt with Mighty Black Apes and Ghsot Banshees. He'd rarely encountered second-tier professionals.
Now, he truly realized just how many powerful individuals Heavenly Profession held.
"Huang Wei's level isn't high enough to be stationed inside the island. He should be on the outer edge of the Black Tortoise Guild's camp, preparing to leave tomorrow when the hunt starts."
With this in mind, Jiang Kai remained patient, repeatedly using invisibility to search for Huang Wei.
After more than ten attempts, he still hadn't found Huang Wei. Even Jiang Kai started doubting his assumptions.
"Could he be sleeping in a tent? Ugh, I should've considered that lazy guy's habits. If he's hiding in one of those tents among tens of thousands of people, finding him will be like looking for a needle in a haystack."
Resigned, Jiang Kai decided to rest and recover his energy.
But just then, he heard an angry shout behind him.
"IT'S YOU?"
The voice sounded familiar.
Jiang Kai turned around, and upon seeing the person's shocked face, he was equally stunned.
"What the—Huang Wei?" Jiang Kai could hardly believe his eyes.
Among the tens of thousands of people in this icy wilderness, he and Huang Wei had somehow bumped into each other.
What were the odds? What kind of twisted fate was this?
Huang Wei's eyes were bulging, practically spitting fire.
"SURROUND HIM!"
The four people behind Huang Wei instantly closed in, trapping Jiang Kai in the middle.
Jiang Kai raised an eyebrow at Huang Wei. "Why aren't you on the island? What are you doing here?"
Huang Wei sneered, his confidence soaring now that Jiang Kai was cornered. "Jiang Kai, you didn't expect this, did you? All of this is thanks to you."
"Ever since you ambushed me and humiliated me in front of everyone, I swore to repay that shame a hundredfold."
"Since then, I've trained relentlessly to strengthen myself. In just ten days after logging back in, I've already reached Level 10."
"I've even participated in the guild's hunt for the King-level Boss, all while tirelessly leveling up."
Glaring at Jiang Kai, Huang Wei continued coldly, "You thought you'd be safe wandering around here because you assumed I'd be on the island. But my diligence has finally paid off, bringing me here to cross paths with you."
Jiang Kai was momentarily speechless.
To think that this guy, of all people, had turned over a new leaf and become this dedicated.
If not for Huang Wei's newfound work ethic, Jiang Kai probably wouldn't have found him at all.
