Chapter 44

Chapter 44 – Trial Tower 7th Floor

—–CROW—–

I gained a new item and a skill as rewards for clearing the 6th floor.

The item I acquired was the [Death Knight Greatsword], a heavy greatsword, as the name suggests, used by the Death Knight.

The design is simple and seems easy to handle, and I really like the moderate weight and size.

[Sword Mastery Lv.1]

– One-Handed Sword Proficiency (497 / 999)

– Two-Handed Sword Proficiency (341 / 999)

Since the Two-Handed Sword Proficiency of [Sword Mastery] is also quite high, it seems like it would be perfect as my main weapon.

The new skill I obtained is a passive skill called [Suggestion].

I thought it might be some kind of hypnosis, but it’s just a skill that allows me to see better in the dark.

To give me this after clearing the gloomy 6th floor, the system is quite late to the party.

Of course, since there will be many dark maps in the future, it’s not entirely useless.

“Does this work on curses too?”

What I’m curious about is whether it works against the vision-impairing magic used by the Lizardman Shaman on the 3rd floor or the Lich boss just now.

Since the next floor is said to have quite a few magic-type enemies, I’ll figure it out slowly.

Seo Jinhyuk Lv.53 (Warrior)

HP : 790/790

MP : 380/380

Strength : 80 (66+14)

Agility : 62 (58+4)

Stamina : 63 (57+6)

Intelligence : 55 (53+2)

These are my current stats with full equipment. My level went up by one, but my stats have increased significantly regardless of the level up.

Except for Intelligence, it doesn’t look like the stats of a level 53 Warrior at all.

Especially my Strength, which reached 80, far surpasses other challengers of the same level.

Looking at my stats alone, you’d think I have a Unique or Epic class, but I’m still a normal class Warrior-bro.

[You can activate the 6th floor of the Trial Tower transfer gate.]

I organized the results of the boss battle and touched the transfer gate. The activation notification appeared, and I accepted it immediately.

“Yes.”

With the slightly dizzying sensation of passing through the transfer gate, a new world unfolded before my eyes.

The background that appeared was the middle of a densely forested mountain, completely different from the gloomy atmosphere of the 6th floor.

Actually, I was looking forward to this 7th floor for various reasons.

Compared to other floors, the overall map size is very large, and there are many NPCs and quests.

Furthermore, it’s the floor where you can start large-scale faction quests that connect to other floors.

Although it varies depending on how you proceed, I heard you can continue it up to around the 20th floor.

I wonder what kind of reward they’ll give for the first clear of such a massive quest.

– *Buzz!*

As I moved forward with anticipation, I soon encountered the first monster of the 7th floor.

I heard that the first encounter on this floor is almost always a living tree monster, but a swarm of hornets appeared.

Of course, since they’re monsters, they’re not ordinary hornets. Each one is the size of a Chihuahua.

“That’s disgusting.”

But if they’re hornets, they must have poison, right?

**

To get straight to the point, the hornet poison didn’t help my resistance growth at all.

In the first place, the hornets’ attack power was so weak that they struggled to pierce my skin with their stingers.

And even when a few special individuals managed to sting me, I only felt a momentary prick, with no other effect.

I heard that these hornet-type monsters appear here and there, not just on the 7th floor, and they all have poisonous stingers.

It’s unlikely that these are exceptionally poisonless, so it must be because my resistance is too high.

Well, aside from the poison arrows, my resistance did increase quite a bit from tangling with zombies on the 6th floor.

[Killer Bee’s Stinger]

Looking at the name of the dropped item, it’s even harder to think they’re poisonless.

– *Squish!*

I finished off a hornet lying on the ground by stomping on it with my sword.  Small crackling effects sparked.

These crackling effects are from the [Lightning Charge] I obtained on the 3rd floor.

While grinding my resistance on the 6th floor, the skill level of [Lightning Charge] also increased a bit, and now it even has an effect.

Of course, I don’t really notice the additional damage or stun effect from the electricity, but it’s better than nothing.

If I raise it a few more levels, I might be able to use it to build up lightning resistance.

At that moment, as I sheathed my sword and was about to move again…

– *Thump, thump, thump!*

A series of heavy sounds echoed from afar.  It sounded most similar to the Goblin Lord’s footsteps.

My Intuition skill was reacting slightly. A monster, a rather large one, was coming this way.

I don’t know what it is, but I should use a big weapon for a big guy.

[Death Knight Greatsword]

Attack Power + 85 (Slashing)

Critical Hit Damage: x 2.5

Durability 350/350

Unique Effect: Wound Tear

Damage dealt to enemies who have been critically hit at least once is increased by 1.5 times.

Enhancement Attempts Remaining: 6

The [Death Knight Greatsword], with its superior base attack power, high critical hit damage, and useful unique effect.

Although I usually avoid using such strong items, I need to test its performance sometime.

– *Thump, thump, thump!*

As the heavy footsteps approached, the figure of a monster emerged from between the bushes.

It was a giant bear covered in black fur.  Judging by the strange symbol engraved on its forehead, it must be a [Rune Bear].

A unique monster that’s always found in environments where wild animals would exist.

It’s said to be more difficult to deal with than most field bosses due to its agility that doesn’t match its huge size.

But what’s the big deal about a beast being agile?

I pulled back the greatsword and charged towards the Rune Bear running towards me.

Brave Slash, a high-powered skill exclusive to two-handed swords, activated as the blade of the greatsword glowed with a dark light.

However, the moment the skill activated and the motion started, I noticed an arrow stuck in the Rune Bear’s back.

What? Why is there an arrow stuck in it?

Is it running towards me after being chased by an NPC?  Then where is the NPC chasing it?

– *Whoosh!*

At that moment, an arrow flew from behind the Rune Bear, aiming for the space between my eyebrows.

**

An arrow appeared right in front of me as soon as I charged in and initiated the skill motion.

It wasn’t aimed at me, but the timing was too perfect.

Since I had just initiated the skill motion, I couldn’t dodge. This is why I don’t use skills often.

After briefly considering how to react, I activated another skill in that state.

[Iron Wall]

– *Clang!*

This was the first time I used [Iron Wall] on my face, but it activated successfully and deflected the arrow.

And the skill motion continued, my greatsword deeply cutting into the Rune Bear’s shoulder.

– *Roar!*

Thanks to the superior attack power, the Rune Bear’s shoulder was almost severed in one hit, and I swung the greatsword again.

A loud red effect exploded along with the slashing sound. A critical hit.

After two attacks, the Rune Bear completely lost its strength and collapsed.  All that was left was the finishing blow, but I stopped my sword and waited.

“Hey, it’s dangerous over there!”

A man, who seemed to be the owner of the arrow from earlier, ran towards me with agile footwork.

He was a very handsome man with slightly long blond hair and fair skin.

His appearance was like a refined stereotype of a blond-haired, blue-eyed handsome man. He looked like a game character.

But the most noticeable feature of the man’s appearance was his uniquely shaped ears.

The 7th floor is a very large floor with a wide map, various quests, and numerous NPCs.

There are three factions that are key to the faction quests, which can be considered the biggest feature of the 7th floor.

“W-what? Why is a human here!”

An elf, carrying a longbow, widened his eyes at me.

**

A race that appears as a staple in fantasy works, the elves.

Elves also exist in the game-like world of the Trial Tower, and their characteristics are not much different from those depicted in fictional works.

They have pointed ears and beautiful appearances, live in harmony with nature in the forests, have very long lifespans, and are skilled with bows.

Of course, they say not all elves are the same, as there are individual differences, but at least the High Elves on the 7th floor are like that.

“Did you defeat the Rune Bear? Why is a human wandering around here?”

The High Elf man asked, looking at me with suspicion.

I didn’t expect to encounter an elf already. Naturally, I hadn’t thought about what to say in this situation.

I was pondering for a moment, choosing my words.  Then, the High Elf man suddenly shouted as if having a seizure.

“T-that ominous sword! I knew it, you’re one of those wicked humans who have been invading the forest!”

Then he abruptly drew a dagger from his waist and charged at me.

Just in case, let me tell you, I haven’t said a single word yet.

Is it okay to suddenly attack someone just because the sword they’re holding is black and has skull decorations?

This is truly self-defense.
