Orochimaru’s Magic Lamp

Chapter 212: Chapter 212: control 'enlightenment'

"Grass Ninja Village will rise again—under my leadership."

Naoyan looked down solemnly at the elder sprawled at his feet, his gaze firm.

"For that future, I must trouble the Four Elders... to become sacrifices."

"No, Naoyan! You can't do this!"

The sheep-masked elder and his comrades had no intention of dying quietly. Their shouts erupted—rage, threats, desperate pleas—filling the cave with noise.

Kakuzu's expression soured. With a flick of his wrist, his masked beasts seized the four elders by their throats, silencing them instantly. Their voices died in gurgles and muffled grunts.

He glanced at Sasori's puppet.

"Next time, refine your poison. Make sure they can't talk at all."

"Easy to say," came Sasori's cold voice from within Hiruko. "My poisons are made for killing, not muting. But... I'll consider making a weaker one. These elders are certainly annoying."

Kakuzu's masked creature lifted the limp elders one by one and tossed them before the Box of Ultimate Bliss. Sasori followed, throwing down the unconscious jōnin he had captured.

The moment their eyes met the grotesque idol, the sheep-faced elder and his peers felt dread settle in their chests. Death hovered near, suffocating.

They, more than anyone, understood the horror of being consumed by the Bliss Box.

Yet amid the fear, the sheep-masked elder found a shred of composure.

"Naoyan," he growled, "whatever deal you've made with them, you're playing with fire. Without us, you can't control Grass Village. This is suicide."

Naoyan stared coldly at him.

"So you know the danger. Pity you realized it too late. You never should have made a deal with the Akatsuki."

He stepped away, done listening. He hadn't wanted to go this far—but the situation had left him no choice.

Naoyan's fingers moved in rapid succession, forming hand seals. The Bliss Box responded immediately.

A dark gale screamed through the cavern like a trapped ghost. The statue's grotesque face twisted open, revealing its hungry maw. Tendrils, long and unnatural, lashed out—pulling in the four elders and the jōnin.

"No—!"

Their shrieks were cut off mid-cry. Naoyan lowered his eyes and pressed his palms together in prayer.

Click. Click. Click…

The moment the five bodies disappeared, the Bliss Box began to hum with power. Its vile chakra surged, cracking the cave walls. Four horrific faces emerged—ox, horse, dog, monkey—carved in stone, their mouths stretching wide in a silent scream.

"That's enough chakra," Naoyan muttered, eyes gleaming. He pressed a hidden mechanism in the wall. With a grinding rumble, the structure around them began to shake violently.

"This place is going to collapse. Move."

Naoyan vanished in a flicker.

---

Outside, as the dust cleared, a giant ominous box stood under the open sky.

"So that's the Bliss Box…"

From a tree branch, Yakushi Kabuto watched it with narrowed eyes. "It's more terrifying than I imagined."

Beside him stood a black-haired, black-eyed boy—Naoyan's son.

Capturing Naoyan hadn't been difficult for Kakuzu and Sasori. Controlling Kabuto, however, was another story. Killing the elders under his nose would've been suicidal—Kabuto was not someone you crossed lightly, especially now that he had mastered sage techniques.

Sasori had been forced to negotiate, finally handing Naoyan's son over to Kabuto as a bargaining chip. It was the key to controlling Naoyan.

Naoyan said nothing as he met his son's gaze—just turned toward Kakuzu.

"The preparations are done. I can open the Bliss Box anytime—assuming your method works."

By now, he understood the truth. The Bliss Box wasn't some magical wish-granting artifact. Its power came from a monster born within it.

Grass Village had long since lost the means to control this creature. Akatsuki claimed they could supply the method.

Naoyan didn't trust anyone. But he had no choice. The spell etched in his blood—the last legacy of Grass—might be their only hope. Without it, the beast from box of bliss would annihilate the entire village.

Kakuzu, reading the distrust in Naoyan's eyes, folded his arms.

"Try it. If something goes wrong, we'll stop it."

They had already assessed beast's strength—it was comparable to a Tailed Beast.

"You'd better not be lying."

Naoyan took a deep breath and stepped toward the box. His hands moved into a new sequence of seals.

"Open—Box of Ultimate Bliss!"

Instantly, the box glowed with a strange purple light. The four demonic faces—ox, horse, dog, and monkey—wailed, a chorus that bypassed the ears and stabbed straight into the soul. Desire. Rage. Regret. All rose in the hearts of those nearby.

Even Kabuto, a sage, felt his vision blur. In that moment, he saw Nonō's death replayed before his eyes.

"This thing… is cursed."

He gritted his teeth and snapped out of it. Turning to Naoyan's son, who had started trembling, Kabuto put a hand on his shoulder.

"Wake up."

This wasn't genjutsu. Chakra could help, but ultimately, it came down to willpower.

Kakuzu had lived for generations. Sasori had long shed his humanity. They were barely affected.

But Naoyan's son was only eleven. His mind wasn't strong enough to resist the Box's illusions. Without Kabuto, he would have been lost.

The howling from the box grew louder. The mouth of one mask opened wide, revealing a pitch-black void.

Then—it stepped out.

A thin figure, limbs long and inhuman. Its face twisted and blurred as if it wore every face it had ever devoured.

The sheep-faced elder's image flickered across its form, followed by the ox, the dog, the monkey—all the souls once sacrificed to the box. Their voices merged into one, chilling and hateful.

"Naoyan. You traitor."

"You didn't expect us to come find you so soon, did you?"

Naoyan's face went pale. He leapt back, eyes locked on Kakuzu and Sasori.

"Your method worked… but this thing can't be fully controlled. Not yet. We need to let it vent first—"

Kakuzu cut him off, voice calm.

"So... you're saying it's time for a fight?"
