Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Hidan, Immortal Body
The silver-haired boy—Hidan—was a devout follower of the Evil God. And today, like many others, he was experimenting with the deity's rituals once again.
Since randomly killing people would be too troublesome, Hidan had set his sights on a black bear. He had spent time preparing bait and traps, only for his efforts to be ruined—not by the bear, but by a group of strangely dressed samurai who stumbled into the trap and destroyed it.
Still, Hidan wasn't unreasonable. He assumed it had been an accident, so he stayed hidden in the treetops without making a fuss.
But when the samurai tried to kill him for no reason? That crossed the line.
His crimson eyes narrowed as he scanned the group—four warriors, three of them injured, one critically. All of them exhausted. If it came to a fight, they wouldn't stand a chance.
With a metallic clink, Hidan pulled a chained kunai from his sleeve and grinned madly.
"You wrecked my trap. Now all of you get to die."
Is this kid insane?
That was the thought running through the Iron Country samurai's minds. But they didn't have the time or energy to deal with some lunatic teenager.
Their boots slammed against the trees as they sprinted away, trying to avoid Hidan.
"Trying to run? Where do you think you're going?"
Hidan hurled his kunai, aiming straight for the wounded man on one samurai's back—Mifune, leader of the Iron Country.
Clang!
Samurai Chongsuke knocked the kunai aside and growled, "Kid, I've spared your life once. Don't push your luck."
"Spare my life?!" Hidan burst into crazed laughter. "No need. I'm standing right here! I just want to kill you—or be killed by you. Though that second one's impossible."
Chongsuke's expression darkened. He wasn't the most patient man, and if Hidan weren't just a boy, he would've ended this already.
In the shinobi world, life-and-death combat was nothing new.
Just as Chongsuke was about to strike, Mifune placed a weak hand on his shoulder, signaling him to hold back.
Mifune had lived long enough to recognize dangerous people. Despite Hidan's ragged clothes and wild behavior, there was something unnerving about him—anyone who could survive in the ninja world with that attitude wasn't to be underestimated.
"…Young man," Mifune said, his tone calm despite his injuries, "it was wrong of us to destroy your trap. But we're on urgent business. Once we reach the village hidden in the Hot Water Country, we'll properly apologize."
He bowed slightly. Then, to further sell his vulnerability, he let out a hacking cough, blood spilling from his lips.
Hidan frowned and scratched his head. "Tch… Don't care about your apology. Just let me kill someone. I really need to kill someone."
The samurai silently cursed him. This guy's really not right in the head.
Just then—whoosh!
A barrage of wind ripped through the forest. A figure landed with a thud, wearing a headband from Kusagakure, the Hidden Grass Village.
His eyes locked onto Mifune, and a twisted smile spread across his face. "Finally caught up. This one'll earn me a nice reward."
The samurai's expressions shifted to horror. They didn't even have time to blame Hidan anymore.
Two elite shinobi and nearly ten Chunin—back in their prime, they could've handled it. But now, injured and outnumbered, it was suicide.
Shing! Shing! Shing!
The forest exploded into combat. Kunai clashed, shuriken spun, explosions boomed in every direction.
Chongsuke faced off against the squad's leader while protecting Mifune. He was barely holding his own. Worse, the enemy wasn't trying to beat him—just distract him long enough for the others to kill his teammates.
"Damn that crazy bastard…"
That "crazy bastard"—Hidan—hadn't stood idly by.
The Grass shinobi had assumed Hidan was with the samurai and launched an attack without hesitation. One Chunin aimed to eliminate the strange boy quickly.
Whoosh! Boom!
Several kunai with exploding tags were launched. The smoke cleared—and the Chunin appeared behind Hidan, kunai in hand, aiming straight for his back.
"AAAAAAGHHH!"
Hidan didn't dodge. Instead, he twisted his torso just as the blade stabbed into his side, and with a snap, a hidden spike shot from his sleeve, driving toward the attacker's chest.
The Chunin backed off fast, escaping with only a scratch on his arm.
"Tch tch… The ritual worked."
Hidan licked the blood from his weapon and began to draw a strange symbol on the ground—a circle, a triangle, patterns in black and white. His skin paled, lines forming over his body like a skeleton.
The Grass Chunin blinked in confusion, then quickly formed hand seals.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
A massive flame roared toward Hidan.
"Perfect timing!"
Instead of dodging, Hidan opened his arms wide and let the fireball slam into him.
"AAAAAHHHHHH!"
Two voices screamed—the Chunin's and Hidan's. But while the Chunin screamed in real pain, Hidan's cry was… joyful.
"Haaahh… delicious… this pain is exquisite."
The flames faded. Hidan's wounds steamed and healed like nothing had happened. The Chunin rolled on the ground, clutching burns all over his body.
Hidan raised his spike again.
"Too bad I won't get to hear more of your sweet screams."
He drove it straight into his own heart—killing the Chunin instantly through his ritual.
Then he looked toward the main battlefield and grinned.
"Looks like I won't be bored after all. So many more… toys."
On the other side, the Kusagakure leader was stunned. This boy had just killed a Chunin effortlessly.
But the Grass ninjas weren't empty-handed either. One of the Iron Country samurai was already gravely wounded and moments from death.
"Lord Mifune… the road to the underworld is short. Let me walk ahead of you."
With that, the warrior released a massive surge of chakra. The detonating tags hidden beneath his armor ignited all at once—
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion engulfed four Grass ninja, including the squad leader, shaking the entire forest with a storm of debris.
Mifune closed his eyes in silent grief.
Hidan, however, let out a slow whistle.
"…Now that's a firework."
