Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Evacuation
The city streets were filled with chaos. Continuous explosions from the direction of the Re-Estize Royal Capital had awakened the residents from their deep sleep. After seeing the flames soaring high into the sky, fear began to creep in, turning into a spreading mass panic.
When city security officers came to inform everyone to evacuate immediately, most residents reacted very quickly. They hurriedly packed valuables and some food at home, then left the city in a frenzy, filling every street and alley.
Evacuation was not easy. Their numbers were too large, and the entire roads were blocked by civilians trying to save themselves, creating massive congestion that slowed everyone down.
This situation was extremely dangerous. If the enemy attacked civilians at this moment, even a Tier Three [Fireball] spell would be enough to cause more than a dozen casualties. This was a nightmare scenario that could happen at any time.
Compared to the bustling streets, the forest area on the west side of the Re-Estize Royal Capital was much wider. Although there were houses here, they were all grand mansions, and ordinary people were not qualified to live in such places.
Before Evileye lay a very luxurious mansion. However, she could clearly see a gaping hole in its center, the remnants of a devastating magical attack.
The main battlefield of the city was the heart of the Re-Estize Royal Capital. Except for some areas at the East Gate that were destroyed by monster army attacks, most of the city was still intact.
Therefore, the damage to this mansion occurred before the war broke out, possibly as a result of Eight Fingers' operations or a retaliatory strike against them.
Evileye, wearing her distinctive red robe, led the team here. Without much talk, everyone immediately began searching inside the manor, moving quickly and coordinately.
Many corpses were scattered on the palace floor, as if there had been no time to attend to them. The gruesome sight indicated the brutality that had just transpired.
But it made sense. This was one of the Eight Fingers organization's strongholds. Although their previous attack had ended in failure, now the stronghold had been exposed. It was not surprising that Eight Fingers personnel had been moved.
Evileye walked anxiously among the corpses, each step filled with anticipation and tension. Finally, she found her target near a corridor corner: a slender woman.
"Tina..." Evileye murmured with immense relief.
She carried the woman, and her sigh of relief felt so profound. Although all of Tina's equipment had been taken, as long as she could find the person, she could slowly build up her equipment later. Life was what mattered most.
She took out a shroud from her magic bag to prevent the corpse from mutating, then carefully wrapped Tina, like a spring roll.
Previously, she had found the deceased Gagaran and Tia in another Eight Fingers stronghold. Coupled with the news about Lakyus from the city guard, all five members of the Blue Roses were finally reunited, albeit in a dismal state.
"Send Tina and the others to a safe place first. We cannot stay in the Re-Estize Royal Capital anymore." Evileye exclaimed in a firm tone.
She carried Tina out of the palace and saw a flash of magical light not far away, accompanied by a tremendous explosion. She couldn't help but sigh. The city was crumbling before her eyes.
Somewhere on the outskirts of the city, there was another person expressing the same sentiment as Evileye.
He wore a set of exquisite brocade clothes that ordinary people could not afford. The man was not very tall and had a bit of fat on his face, indicating a comfortable lifestyle that contrasted with the destruction around him.
He was none other than Prince Zanac Valleon Igana Ryle Vaiself, the second prince of the kingdom who had fled the city earlier.
Beside him was a beautiful girl with sapphire-like eyes radiating intelligence, and flowing golden hair. Who else could it be but Princess Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself?
"My dear sister, where should we go now?"
Prince Zanac stood with his hands behind his back, gazing at the capital shrouded in smoke and fire. He asked Princess Renner beside him with a complex expression. There was clear unease and despair in his voice.
Since they had fled the palace earlier, they didn't know exactly what was happening in the Re-Estize Royal Capital. However, upon seeing the terrifying monster army attacking the city, Prince Zanac immediately concluded that the Re-Estize Royal Capital would most likely fall.
Thus, his father, King Ramposa III, who was unwilling to leave the capital, would naturally have slim chances of survival. The thought weighed heavily on his heart with sorrow.
After losing the Re-Estize Royal Capital, which was directly under their control, even if the royal family still had some remaining territory, a significant reduction in power was inevitable.
Perhaps this would lead to a new round of power struggles, causing the already ailing kingdom to collapse. The burden of the kingdom's future felt so heavy on his shoulders.
When thinking of the various situations that might happen next, Prince Zanac felt confused and unable to make the right decision.
"Brother, let's take refuge in the nearest royal territory first. After the situation in the capital calms down, we can consider what to do next."
Princess Renner's mood seemed utterly unaffected by the destruction around them. Only, her expression was somewhat stiff and not as energetic as usual. A strange, almost cold calmness.
This was normal for Renner. The only person in the entire kingdom she cared about was her pet, 'Climb.' However, Climb's whereabouts were unknown during the attack on the Eight Fingers stronghold and he had most likely perished.
Finding his body and reviving him in the current chaotic situation was beyond her capabilities.
Without Climb, she's too lazy to maintain her daily facade. A cold thought flashed through her mind, revealing a dark side of the "Golden Princess" everyone knew.
"...Let's do it this way."
Prince Zanac glanced at Princess Renner, realizing that her mood was bad, or at least displaying something he couldn't comprehend. He didn't ask anything further. He nodded and turned to walk towards the carriage. He knew there were things he couldn't understand about his sister.
Considering the safety of both of them, King Ramposa III had sent a group of 20 palace guards to act as their escorts when arranging their evacuation. With their tight protection, the journey to the direct territory should not be too problematic.
Just as Prince Zanac and Princess Renner were about to board the carriage, a nearby palace guard seemed to notice something. He suddenly shouted in a direction in the darkness, "Who's there!?"
His shout immediately drew the attention of the other guards. They all turned into the darkness, drawing the swords at their waists and standing guard, tense and alert.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
A man in armor appeared before everyone. The guards breathed a sigh of relief when they saw the adventurer's identity badge hanging around his neck.
"Where do you come from, adventurer?" The captain of the guard stepped forward and questioned the man about his origins, his tone still full of caution.
The other party did not answer. He merely observed the crowd with sharp eyes, and finally looked directly at Princess Renner.
"Excuse me, are you Her Royal Highness the Golden Princess?"
Hearing the man's question, Princess Renner's eyes showed a serious expression. Then, she said, "My name is Renner. You must be an elder of the Church of Destiny. I wonder what you seek from me?" A strange premonition arose in her mind.
A fleeting look of surprise flashed across the man's face, and he was deeply impressed that Renner had guessed his identity so quickly.
"As expected, Princess. I am from the Church of Destiny. I have come to meet you at the God's command. Please come with us." His tone was direct, without preamble.
"...May I ask why the God wishes to meet me?" Renner asked, curiosity beginning to take hold.
"I do not know about this. The only order I received was to find you." The man shook his head, indicating his ignorance.
The palace guards on duty certainly wouldn't allow the man to simply take the princess away. The captain immediately stepped forward and said, "Don't be ridiculous! We are under orders from His Majesty the King to protect the princess and prince to the death. You, a person of unknown origin, have no right to take the princess away!"
The man was not surprised by the guards' reaction. He slowly drew the sword from his waist, calmly, and said, "I'm sorry, we don't intend to discuss this with you."
We?
While the guard captain was confused, he suddenly felt a chill on his neck, as if touched by cold metal.
"Don't move, or I won't guarantee your safety." Another voice whispered from behind him, cold and deadly, ending the debate.
