OVERLORD: The Second Supreme Being

Chapter 147: Chapter 146: Nana's Adventure in Slane Theocracy

Nana had already been in the capital of the Slane Theocracy, the Holy City, for some time. Recently, she had been gathering information through hearsay, relying entirely on her own investigation. She had set her sights on someone.

That person was the High Priest of Light. Every day at 11 a.m., the High Priest would patrol the entire Holy City, inspecting the city's defense work.

After several days of investigation, Nana confirmed the person's identity: it was indeed the High Priest of Light.

The six High Priests of the Slane Theocracy were the highest authority in the country. With any one of their recommendations, Nana could join the Black Scriptures.

Just as the High Priest of Light finished his day's work and returned home, Nana silently and invisibly followed him into the house.

After the door was closed, the High Priest turned around and saw Nana.

"Who are you?" The High Priest of Light raised his staff and pointed it at Nana.

Faced with the sudden intrusion of a little girl into his home, the High Priest of Light did not dare to relax for even a moment.

His house was protected by magic, so if he hadn't opened the door himself, the magic would have been triggered, causing a loud noise and a slight explosion.

However, since everything inside the house remained intact, it meant that the girl in front of him hadn't triggered the magic.

He began to suspect that the girl before him was not human.

"I want to join the Black Scriptures," Nana said seriously, her gaze unwavering.

The High Priest of Light was momentarily stunned before he asked, "How did you get in?"

"I just followed behind you and came in," Nana replied.

Although Nana didn't want to answer his question, she thought about it for a moment and decided to respond, as it was necessary to join the Black Scriptures.

The High Priest of Light let out a sigh of relief. As long as she was human, it was fine. If some kind of monster had snuck in, it would have been a huge problem.

"You say you want to join the Black Scriptures?"

Nana nodded.

"Why?" The High Priest of Light asked again.

"Because I heard there are many powerful people here, and I want to become stronger," Nana replied.

"Then how strong are you?" The High Priest of Light's greed began to surface. The girl before him had followed him into his room without him noticing. Her stealth ability must be very impressive, and Slane Theocracy could definitely use someone like her.

"I could kill you with a blink," Nana said calmly.

"I don't like kids who brag," the High Priest of Light responded.

Before he could finish speaking, Nana's dagger was already pressed against his neck.

"Do you still think I'm bragging?" The blade against his skin filled the High Priest of Light with fear, but more than that, he felt excitement. With such strength at such a young age, her future... she could very well surpass even the most formidable warriors.

"I can help you join the Black Scriptures."

"Really?" Nana asked, putting away the dagger, her eyes full of anticipation.

"However, I have a few questions for you."

"Go ahead, but I might not answer them all," Nana replied.

"How old are you?"

"8 years old."

"Where are you from?"

"From the kingdom?"

"Where are your parents?"

"I've never seen them. I've been on my own since I can remember."

"Why do you want to join the Black Scriptures?"

"I heard that the strongest people in humanity gather here. I came to get stronger."

The High Priest of Light looked at Nana, observing her innocent eyes. There was no trace of lying in them.

As a superior, the High Priest of Light could judge whether someone was lying by their eyes.

"Her eyes show no sign of evasion, her expression is calm, and her mind is at peace. She probably isn't lying," the High Priest of Light thought to himself as he observed Nana.

But Nana's profession was that of a ninja, and as a ninja, disguising herself was a necessary skill. How could a simple lie be detected?

The High Priest of Light could only discern if ordinary people were lying. For someone as strong as Nana, he couldn't tell if she was lying.

However, Nana was still just an 8-year-old child. In the end, an 8-year-old child's lies were often easier to detect.

Thus, the High Priest of Light easily convinced himself of Nana's words.

He arranged for a separate room in his house for Nana to stay in.

The next day, the High Priest of Light took Nana outside the temple.

"Wait here for a while," he told Nana before entering the temple.

A group of rulers from the Slyan Church gathered together to pay their respects to the statue of the Six Great Gods.

"Thank you, divine beings!"

After going through some tedious rituals, the phase of free discussion began.

"Yesterday, I met an 8-year-old girl who possesses strength approaching the Heroic Domain."

All the other high-ranking priests and officials turned their gazes toward the High Priest of Light.

"My personal judgment is that her future strength might reach the level of Antilene."

The others looked astonished.

"Are you sure you're not joking?" the High Priest of Darkness questioned.

"I would never joke in such a setting. I can't determine her true strength based on just my own judgment. Further testing is needed."

"Could she be a descendant of the divine beings, lost to the outside world?"

"That's not very certain. She has always been a wanderer and has never met her parents. She heard that the people of the Slane Theocracy are very strong, so she came to the Slane Theocracy in order to become stronger," the High Priest of Light said.

"I want to bring her into the Black Scriptures after confirming her strength," the High Priest of Light continued.

He then turned his gaze toward the person sitting at the head of the table.

At the head of the table sat the highest-ranking priest of the Slane Theocracy. Once he received the other's approval, it would be certain that Nana would join the Black Scriptures.

"I would like to meet her," the Highest Priest said.

"She is outside the temple," the High Priest of Light replied.

"How could you let such an unknown person come to such a place? What if she's a spy?" the High Priest of Water questioned.

"She's only 8 years old. Aren't you overthinking? And someone with this level of strength, who would send her to another country?" the High Priest of Light explained.

"Alright, alright, since she's already here, let's stop arguing and meet her," the Highest Priest said.

The group went outside the temple.

Nana was casually looking around.

"What are you looking at?" the High Priest of Water, still suspicious that Nana might be a spy, asked.

"Is this a place I'm not allowed to look at?" Nana coldly spoke, her eyes fixed on the High Priest of Water.

The High Priest of Water felt a chill from Nana's gaze, as though she could kill him at any moment.

"Impudent, how dare you release killing intent in such a place!" the High Judge of the Church scolded.

Nana's gaze turned to the High Priest of Light, as if seeking his help.

In truth, Nana was observing how the High Priest of Light would respond. If he turned against her like the previous person, Nana would not hesitate to kill everyone present.
