Chapter 142 Wrapping Up
"Glad to hear that you're all okay. I'm going to be going around with Grito and disabling the implants in anyone we come across while looking for Ezra. I want the three of you to stick together and go back to the Dauntless to drop Vi'ivando off. Then if I haven't found Ezra by then, I want all of you to help me with the search."
Avery ended the call with Kasandra, Jasmine, and Kaiden and let out a deep sigh of relief.
The three of them were doing fine and had managed to secure Grito's uncle. One of their main objectives from infiltrating this station.
He had heard that they ran into a bit of trouble with the man that had previously been Iniquus' aide, but things had worked out in the end. The three of them had sealed up the breached corridor that could have caused major issues for the station if left unchecked.
"I'm sure you already heard the good news, but it seems that my team members managed to rescue your uncle. Now, let's go make sure that when everyone wakes up, they won't immediately go back to trying to kill us." Avery said, smiling reassuringly at Grito.
Thankfully, his mental state seemed to be settled for now, and Grito assisted Avery as he wanted.
Whenever they came across someone that either Ezra, Kasandra, Jasmine, or Kaiden had incapacitated, they used the disruption device Grtio had made to disable the implants hidden within their heads.
"Ezra!"
Eventually they found themselves at the scene of the fierce battle between Ezra and his old friend Oliva.
The area was in shambles, with the walls, ceiling, and floors sliced up from their hard light weapons.
When Avery made it over to his fallen comrade, he immediately checked to see if he was alive.
"Whew. Don't scare me like that." Avery muttered after confirming that Ezra still had a pulse and his heart was beating.
He was banged up and unconscious, but he was alive and there was no threat that he might die. The medical nanomachines had fixed up a majority of his injuries and he was merely exhausted from the intense exertion and blood loss.
As for his opponent, she was in pretty rough shape. Ezra had done his best not to kill her, but that did not mean he had gone easy on her.
Oliva's wounds were awful to say the least, and she really might breathe her last soon if she did not receive immediate assistance.
"Grito, have you already disabled the implants of the people in this area?" Avery asked.
"Yes, there should be no worry of them being under those infernal things control when they wake up."
Having this confirmation, Avery administered a dose of medical nanomachines to the woman that fought against Ezra. This would ensure that she did not die from her injuries.
After that, he injected Ezra with a stimulant and slapped him in the face a couple of times until he woke up.
"Sorry, I'm going to have to be cutting your nap short. We've still got work to do." Avery said with a wry smile as Ezra's eyes fluttered open.
"Couldn't you have woken me up a bit more gentl- Wait! Olivia!"
Noticing that his friend was no longer in front of him where she had been when he lost consciousness, Ezra began frantically searching for her.
"If you're talking about the woman that beat you up, she's over there. I figured she would be a bit more comfortable lying down rather than slumped up against a wall she had bled all over." Avery said, pointing towards where he had moved her.
Ezra immediately looked relieved, and this was more than enough for Avery to understand that there was some sort of history between the two.
While Ezra took a few moments to recover, Avery contacted Kasandra, Jasmine, and Kaiden to update them Ezra's situation.
It was good news to learn that all of them had pulled through, though they had not quite made it out unscathed.
Nevertheless, this mission had been a resounding victory considering what they had been up against. Now there were only a few things left for them to take care of.
"Have you had enough of a break, Ezra? Otherwise, we'll need to leave you behind."
"Of course, I'm good to go. I feel good enough to lift a Harnalix." Ezra said, standing up and holding his arms over his head.
"A har- what?"
"Ah, I suppose you would not know about something like that. It's a large creature from my home world. I'll tell you more about it later."
With the two of them in a good enough mood to be joking around with each other, they set off and continued freeing the station's soldiers from the implant that had been enslaving them.
However, this was not their main goal in heading deeper into the station. What they were truly after was information.
Soon they made it to the stations main computer room, and Grtio got to work on cracking the system. To further justify their assault on the station, it was paramount that they gathered as much evidence of Iniquus' wrongdoings as they could.
Naturally, a lot of sensitive information was being stored on external drives as well, but once they had a map of the place, Avery sent Kasandra and Kaiden to collect any drives and devices that were stashed away in Iniquus' quarters and office.
The security on Iniquus' personal devices was difficult to crack even for Grito, but he eventually got in.
"Looks like a lot of transmission data has been erased. I don't think I'll be able to get it back. Still, there's plenty of incriminating evidence here." Grito said once he had complied all of the information pertaining to Iniquus' crimes.
There were tons of illicit payment records to pirates, as well as records of purchasing the warships from the Reswen Theocracy that the terrorist had been using.
"Well, I think we're ready. Let's contact the Alliance Police and have them clean up the rest of this mess."
