Peerless Little Immortal Doctor

Chapter 848: How Dare He!

It wasn't until three in the morning that Fengzi and Zhao Qian finally collapsed at the table.

Looking at the two with low alcohol tolerance, Xia Liu smiled faintly and helped them to a room on the first floor to rest.

After tidying up a bit, he also headed upstairs to his own room.

He had to admit, Guo Man was truly thoughtful.

If his calculations weren't wrong.

Guo Man learned the truth in the evening, and from then until ten o'clock, it was likely only four or five hours.

Within those four or five hours.

She managed to prepare an entire wardrobe's worth of clothes for him, and had the room tidied up immaculately.

How could she be so certain that he would agree to be her personal bodyguard?

What if he said no? Wouldn't all her arrangements have been for nothing?

A terrifying woman.

As he thought about it, Xia Liu couldn't help but praise her.

Guo Man dared to take bold actions, no doubt about it.

Even without certainty, she would prepare everything to be flawless.

As long as he nodded, things would unfold smoothly according to her plans.

Looking at the unfamiliar room, Xia Liu took a shower, lay on the soft bed, and carefully mapped out his next steps.

In the morning, Xia Liu stood on the balcony, gazing at the surrounding scenery.

Zhao Qian and Fengzi were already awake.

The two of them had been quite embarrassing yesterday.

After getting up, they cleaned up the living room.

This morning's commute to work felt very comfortable for them.

Seated in a BMW.

Last night, Xia Liu had also confessed to them.

That he was no longer an ordinary security guard, but had become Guo Man's personal bodyguard.

Regarding this occupation, Zhao Qian and Fengzi were full of envy.

A personal bodyguard for a beautiful CEO.

If things progressed, it might even turn into the personal husband of the beautiful CEO in the future.

If that really happened, Xia Liu would be soaring.

At least a tenth of Guo's Pharmaceutical's wealth would be his.

"Brother Xia Liu, we really envy you."

"Fengzi, if you also had experience as an ex-special forces soldier, maybe you'd be able to compare to Brother Liu."

It wasn't Zhao Qian belittling Fengzi.

But the two were simply not in the same league.

Xia Liu's experiences were too extensive, and he had a high-strength physique.

Not to mention, his looks—absolutely exceptional.

Far more handsome than most men.

And his height was well above the "male god" level.

If Xia Liu wasn't currently searching for his wife and child, he might have a swarm of rich beauties vying for him.

"No need to envy me; you'll have your chance someday. As long as you don't die, there will eventually be a day of success."

"Yeah, as long as we don't die, we'll have our day of success."

Zhao Qian and Fengzi exchanged a glance.

After years of struggling in society, they were well aware those words were often just empty consolation.

Yet, deep down, they still held a shred of hope.

Maybe they'd be the exception and truly find success one day.

Xia Liu was fairly low-key; after parking the car, he made sure not to get out when others were around.

Zhao Qian and Fengzi did the same.

If people in the company saw them stepping out of a BMW, they wouldn't avoid gossip.

They might even become infamous in the company.

An infamous reputation laced with sarcasm, for sure.

There wasn't much time left before work started, so Xia Liu, Fengzi, and Zhao Qian parted ways.

Arriving at the CEO's office, Guo Man and Xilu were already working.

The office door was open.

Because few people would come up here at this hour.

Perhaps it was also to make Xia Liu feel more at ease that Guo Man had left it open.

Either way, Xia Liu managed to catch a glimpse of the office's atmosphere.

Xilu was holding a stack of folders beside the desk, and Guo Man took the papers Xilu handed to her, skimmed through them, and signed her name.

Lina and Xima were more relaxed, organizing files on the other side.

Seeing Xia Liu appear, Guo Man paused her actions.

"Good morning, Mr. Xia."

She greeted before Xia Liu could, a gesture that felt like the familiarity of longtime friends.

But the use of "Mr." unmistakably exposed the distance between them.

"Good morning, President Guo. Am I intruding?"

Xia Liu asked awkwardly.

"Not at all. In fact, you've just given me an excuse to slack off."

Guo Man's words were smooth, her smile on her face captivating beyond measure.

"Uh, uh, uh."

Xia Liu was taken aback. According to her profile, Guo Man was described as a woman with a cold personality.

Especially toward men; she wouldn't smile unless absolutely necessary.

But now, the profile seemed inaccurate.

Or could it be that, in her eyes, he wasn't considered a man but rather an equal?

Xia Liu decided not to dwell on it further. Otherwise, he might overthink himself into a corner.

"Feel free to find a spot to sit or wander around the company. Maybe around noon, I'll need you to accompany me somewhere."

"Alright."

Xia Liu responded succinctly.

Then he left the office.

What a joke—it was one thing to be in the same space with Guo Man.

The longer he stayed, the higher the chances of exposing himself.

Watching the surveillance screen, Xia Liu was sitting upright on the sofa. Guo Man smiled slightly before returning to her files.

At noon, Guo Man finally stepped out of the office.

"Mr. Xia, please accompany me somewhere now."

Guo Man approached Xia Liu alone, while Xilu and Lina left in another direction.

"President Guo, perhaps it's better if you just call me Xia Liu."

"Mr. Xia, Mr. Xia"—Xia Liu was mortified and close to collapsing.

He was supposed to be a bodyguard; no need to be so formal.

"Alright, then let's head somewhere now."

Guo Man didn't push back and simply used his name.

"What is this?"

Looking at the table full of dishes, Xia Liu felt bewildered.

This woman's so-called destination turned out to be a restaurant?

"Due to my unique status, I need a bodyguard wherever I go, even for meals. Since you likely won't be wandering around today, I thought it's better for you to accompany me. Is that okay?"

"No problem, no problem."

Xia Liu quickly replied.

"Then let's eat together."

With that, Guo Man began eating slowly and deliberately.

...

Xia Liu was a little puzzled. Could it be that Guo Man was interested in him?

That didn't seem likely—they had only known each other for a few days.

Midway through the meal, Guo Man's phone rang repeatedly.

When she saw the caller ID, a pure and genuine smile emerged on her face, nearly stunning Xia Liu.

"Grandpa Zhuge, what brings you to call me?"

Guo Man's voice seemed to be drenched in honey—sweet, syrupy sweet.

Xia Liu had the urge to bite her tongue.

"How dare Liang Yu!"

At that moment, Guo Man's expression turned steely, her voice tinged with frost.

"Grandpa Zhuge, tell him to wait. I'll be there in an hour."

After the response from the other side, Guo Man hung up the phone.

Xia Liu, with his unmatched hearing, had already caught the details of their conversation.

This Liang Yu must be Liang Chao's older brother or similar—apparently a military man who seems to be causing trouble for Guo Man's Grandpa Zhuge.
