Chapter 81: Chapter 81

Chapter 81: Baby is in Pain

"Don't be so upset. It's enough that I dealt with them," Zhao Ling said, raising a hand to gently ruffle Bibi Dong's hair, smoothing the slight frown on her face. "Besides, they were beaten so badly that day. If you'd been there, I'm afraid Yu Xiaogang might not have woken up at all."

His casual tone and the affectionate gesture softened Bibi Dong's expression.

"By the way," he continued, "what time are we leaving tomorrow? Do we need to pack anything else?"

"No, everything's already in the storage soul guide," Bibi Dong replied, shaking her head. Her beautiful, spring-like eyes locked onto his. "Brother Zhao, are you and Sister Yin really planning to go to Spirit City with us?"

"Of course," Zhao Ling answered without hesitation. "Didn't I promise you long ago? Yin and I have plenty of time, so we'll treat this as a trip and follow your convoy to Spirit City."

As he turned to glance at Ah Yin, his eyes filled with tenderness.

Ah Yin, feeling the warmth of his gaze, nodded resolutely. "That's right. Sister Dong'er, my husband and I want to go see Spirit City and experience its grandeur. Why, are you not happy to have us along?"

Though her words seemed playful, a shadow of uncertainty lingered in Ah Yin's heart. As a soul beast turned human, she had long hidden herself in remote areas to avoid detection. Now, with Zhao Ling's protection and a special "soul-sealing seal" concealing her aura, she could pass as an ordinary human without risk—at least in theory.

However, Spirit City was no ordinary place. It was filled with powerful soul masters, and the slightest mistake could expose her identity. Despite this, Ah Yin was willing to take the risk. Zhao Ling's unwavering love and her belief in his trustworthiness gave her the courage to gamble her future.

"Of course not!" Bibi Dong replied with a radiant smile. "How could I not welcome you? Honestly, I'm thrilled you're coming. If not, I'd have to leave you both behind tomorrow, and that would be unbearable."

Her warm response was interrupted by the click of high heels approaching. A graceful figure appeared, her delicate features framed by her long, flowing hair.

Ah Yin's eyes lit up as she enthusiastically waved to the newcomer. "Sister Erlong!"

Without hesitation, she pulled Zhao Ling along and ran toward Liu Erlong, her enthusiasm leaving Bibi Dong momentarily speechless.

What is this? Bibi Dong wondered. Ah Yin used to be so possessive, always guarding Zhao Ling from me. Now, she's actively trying to recruit more women into this so-called 'sisterhood.'

Frustrated, Bibi Dong hurried to catch up. Grabbing Ah Yin's hand, she led her toward an empty corner, leaving Zhao Ling and Liu Erlong standing awkwardly together.

The two women whispered conspiratorially, while Zhao Ling and Liu Erlong exchanged uneasy glances. Over the past week, they had crossed paths several times, staying at nearby hotels. Ah Yin, under the pretense of gratitude, had visited Liu Erlong repeatedly, lavishing praise on Zhao Ling's thoughtfulness.

At first, Liu Erlong had been wary, suspecting that Ah Yin viewed her as a rival. But when she realized Ah Yin was trying to "recruit" her into their unusual arrangement, Liu Erlong was left utterly speechless.

Adding to her confusion was Zhao Ling's frequent invitations to night markets, where he bought her delicious treats and beautiful outfits. Despite her initial resistance, Liu Erlong found herself unable to refuse his thoughtful gestures.

Once, she confronted him. "Aren't you worried that Sister Ah Yin will find out about all this?"

Zhao Ling's response had shattered her composure. "Ah Yin told me that if I can't get you to join us, she won't let me into her room. It's so heartbreaking."

Liu Erlong had been left questioning her sanity. Was Ah Yin truly trying to push her into a relationship with Zhao Ling?

Though she had sworn to never fall for someone like him, Zhao Ling's persistent charm and genuine kindness gradually broke down her defenses. Just the other night, a crowded street forced her to stumble into his arms. Overwhelmed by his presence and the heady scent of his cologne, she stayed there for several minutes before fleeing in a blushing panic.

Now, standing face-to-face with Zhao Ling, she felt the same awkwardness creeping in. But Zhao Ling, ever self-assured, reached out and gently took her hand.

"Well, Erlong, Ah Yin and I are leaving with the Spirit Hall group tomorrow. Do you want to come with us?"

Liu Erlong instinctively tried to pull her hand away but found herself unable to. Reluctantly, she gave up and shook her head.

"No, I've been here long enough. I think it's time for me to head home."

Her tone was polite, but her thoughts told a different story. 'You know I'm a member of the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Rex family, right? If I follow you to Spirit City and my identity is discovered, I'll be walking straight into danger. I'd rather not court death, thank you very much.'

Zhao Ling sighed but released her hand with a gentle smile. "Fair enough. I hope we'll meet again soon."

As Liu Erlong turned to leave, a pang of regret lingered in her chest. She had grown accustomed to his presence over the past week, and the thought of parting left her feeling unexpectedly hollow.

Meanwhile, Ah Yin and Bibi Dong rejoined Zhao Ling, their hushed discussion leaving them in better spirits. The three exchanged a few more words before retiring for the evening, the looming journey to Spirit City filling them with anticipation and unease in equal measure.
