Chapter 20: Meeting a son of Hermes
Hikari was looking at them. "Come let's go, let's go and meet this guy, fight him and piss on him"
The other two screamed as well, as they ran to the company, plan be delivery man, they arrived to the company, as they saw inside the company was whole lot greek Mythology gods statue, with the large one was of Hermes as they just went they lied, and got to the CEO of office, but when the assistant saw Luke they learned that she was Clear Sighted Mortal and sense Luke tryed to pass his bag as a box it didn't work, let's say he had too be check for drugs, as they went to the office of Edward Nick, they saw man, he was weairng a suite that looked out of movie, dark skin, and yellow eyes, with brown hair, from what they can see he was Defently a Son of Hermes.
Edward looked at him. "First of all if you are here to fight, because you think I am using the chains to take down the gods or take over the world... Through that our the window, so I am not lying o swear on thr Styx's".
Hikari narrowed his eyes at Edward, the tension in the room palpable. "So, you're saying this is all just some big misunderstanding? You leave us a mocking note, mess with us, and now you're swearing on the Styx that you're not up to anything?"
Edward leaned back in his chair, completely unfazed by the accusation. "Look, I'm not here to mess with you. The chains are fake, yes, but it's not like I had any grand scheme to use them to take over the world or anything. I'm a businessman, not a megalomaniac. The chains were part of an old project—an experiment that didn't pan out."
Yami crossed his arms, clearly unconvinced. "Then why leave the note? Why toy with us like that?"
Edward chuckled, a sly grin forming on his face. "Because I was bored. I've been running this company for years, and let's face it, running a business doesn't exactly come with the same thrills as adventuring or fighting monsters. I saw an opportunity to mess with some fellow demigods, and I took it. Call it a harmless prank."
Luke stepped forward, glaring at Edward. "A prank? You nearly got us killed back at that forge! What kind of 'harmless prank' involves setting a giant automaton on us?"
Edward raised his hands defensively. "Hey, that automaton was Hephaestus' design. I didn't even know it was still functional. I assumed it was broken like everything else in that forge. But I'll admit, I underestimated you guys. You handled yourselves pretty well."
Hikari clenched his fists, his patience running thin. "So, what now? You expect us to just walk away after all this?"
Edward's expression softened, and he stood up from his desk, walking over to them with a more serious demeanor. "No, I don't. In fact, I owe you guys for all the trouble. I can offer you something in return. You're clearly on a quest, and if you're dealing with gods and monsters, you'll need all the help you can get."
Yami raised an eyebrow. "Help? From you?"
Edward nodded. "I have connections. Weapons, armor, intel—anything you might need. I don't expect you to trust me after what happened, but I want to make amends. I know what it's like to be on the front lines, fighting for survival."
Hikari exchanged glances with Luke and Yami. This wasn't what they expected when they came here, but they could use the resources Edward was offering. Still, there was a lingering sense of distrust.
Hikari finally spoke. "We'll consider it. But if you're messing with us again, I swear on the Styx, you'll regret it."
Edward smirked. "Fair enough. Let me know when you need something. Just don't expect me to join you in any monster-slaying adventures. I prefer to stay behind the scenes."
With that, the trio left Edward's office, their minds swirling with conflicting thoughts. They had come to confront a potential enemy, but instead, they left with an unexpected ally—or at least someone who could provide some much-needed support.
As they walked away from the building, Luke finally spoke. "So, are we really going to trust him?"
Hikari shrugged. "For now, we play along. But we'll keep a close eye on him. If he tries anything, we'll be ready."
Luke looked at Edward. "So can we get the chains".
Edward looked at them. "First of all what is the Quests you 3 are on, and what is the prophecy you guys were given".
One explanation later everyone looked at Edward.
Edward gave them a grinn. "Don't worry I can help you retrieve the chains"
Yami just looked at him. "I thought you had the chain".
Edward gave them a signature child of Hermes grinn. "Hey I had to get money to makes this, so I sold it someone"..
Few minutes later all 4 of them were in a fancy car, as Edward looked at all of them.
Hikari just looked at him. "So waith, there is a whole lot of Clear Sighted Mortal, and they are in a place or will an organisation called the Abyss"
Edward looked at him. "Yeah, most clear sighted mortal go there, they are full of magician, assassin and anything, they are people for hier".
Luke looked at him with a grin. "So they are as big as a army"
Edward looked at his half brother. "Yes but you need a lot of money"
When Hikari heard Luke words, he felt a chill down his spine, as he felt something for Luke as a child of Aphrodite he can fell emotion.
Hikari glanced at Luke, narrowing his eyes as the strange feeling crept over him. "What exactly are you thinking, Luke? That grin doesn't give me confidence."
Luke chuckled. "Relax, I'm just saying, an army of Clear Sighted Mortals could be useful. Especially if we're up against the kind of stuff we've been dealing with lately. Besides, if they're for hire, that means we could have an edge."
Edward smirked at his brother's enthusiasm. "It's true, the Abyss has resources like you wouldn't believe. Mercenaries, magic users, even rogue demigods sometimes. But they don't come cheap. Even for me, I had to pull a few favors just to get their attention."
Yami leaned back in his seat, clearly not impressed. "So, what's the plan? Are we just going to waltz in, pay a few assassins, and hope they help us find the chains?"
Edward laughed. "Not exactly. We're heading to one of their branches to see if the person I sold the chains to still has them. It won't be as easy as just asking for them back. The Abyss doesn't operate on goodwill."
Hikari couldn't shake the uneasy feeling, but he tried to focus. "And what if they don't have the chains anymore?"
Edward shrugged. "Then we'll have to negotiate. Maybe offer something else in exchange. The Abyss deals in all kinds of favors and trades. Just be prepared for things to get… complicated."
As the car sped toward their destination, Hikari still felt the strange emotional tension surrounding Luke. He knew better than to ignore his instincts as a son of Aphrodite, but for now, he decided to keep his concerns to himself.
Edward glanced back at the three of them. "We're almost there. Just remember, keep your heads cool. The Abyss plays by its own rules, and trust me, you don't want to piss them off."
Hikari sighed, feeling the weight of their situation growing heavier. They were walking into a den of dangerous individuals, and now, more than ever, he hoped Luke's grin wasn't foreshadowing trouble.
"Great," Yami muttered, "nothing like diving into more chaos."
Hikari looked at him. "Is your mother not the goddess of Chaos, also any luck on figuring out your power's".
Yami rolled his eyes, crossing his arms. "Yeah, she's the goddess of Chaos, but that doesn't mean I enjoy diving headfirst into it. As for my powers…" He glanced at the scythe in his hand, spinning it lightly. "I'm still figuring them out. I mean, I know I've got some control over shadows, and I'm pretty good at messing with people's perceptions. But as far as any big chaotic destruction… not yet."
Hikari raised an eyebrow. "Messing with perceptions? That sounds useful. Ever think about using that on enemies, making them see something that isn't there?"
Yami smirked. "Already tried it a couple of times. Works like a charm, but it takes focus. The more chaos around, the harder it is to control. Kind of ironic, right?"
Edward, overhearing their conversation, laughed. "That's the beauty of chaos, though. It's unpredictable, and sometimes, that's your greatest weapon. Trust me, if you figure out how to harness that fully, you'll be unstoppable."
Luke leaned over from his seat, clearly interested. "So, any chaos powers that would help us with this Abyss situation? Maybe confuse some people, make them think they owe us the chains?"
Yami shrugged. "Maybe, but like I said, it's risky. If things get too out of hand, the chaos could backfire. I'd rather not have us fighting illusions of our own making."
Hikari looked thoughtful. "Well, either way, we've got to stay sharp. The Abyss isn't a place where we can afford to make mistakes."
As they neared their destination, the conversation quieted down, everyone preparing for whatever awaited them at the Abyss.
They then arrived to the Abyss, as they went too the building, as they went inside the door and will they saw a whole lot of people, if anything it looked like a whole lot of people in adventure guild.
"Will, will, will, long time no See"
Edward then looked at who called him. "Ah there he is".
As everyone looked at a man, he seemed a bit fat, as he has balding patch on his head, blue hair, a well nice business suit.
Hikari looked at the man. "Please tell that is not the man who sold the Chain too".
Edward looked at him. "Sorry say but the answer is yes, and he is... Good person".
Hikari groaned, facepalming. "Great, just what we needed. A 'good person' who sells chains to shady organizations."
Luke couldn't help but chuckle. "I mean, look at him. He doesn't exactly scream 'dangerous criminal.' More like 'guy who oversells insurance.'"
Yami smirked, taking a step forward. "Well, we're here for the chains. Let's hope he's as good as you say, Edward."
The blue-haired man noticed them approaching and broke into a wide grin. "Edward! It's been ages! And who are your friends?" He extended a hand toward them, his demeanor overly cheerful.
Edward stepped forward, shaking the man's hand. "This is Hikari, Luke, and Yami. They're on a quest to retrieve the chains I sold you."
The man's expression shifted from jovial to serious in an instant. "Ah, the chains. I thought I recognized the spark of adventure in your eyes. But I must warn you—those chains are not just ordinary items. They carry great power and even greater danger."
Hikari crossed his arms, skeptical. "Yeah, we heard. We just need to know where they are."
The man chuckled nervously. "Of course, of course! But first, let's find a place to sit. I have some… information that may be vital for your quest."
They followed him through the crowded hall, where various groups of adventurers were discussing their exploits and strategies. The atmosphere was lively, filled with excitement and anticipation for whatever challenges awaited them.
Once they found a small table in a quieter corner, the man leaned in, lowering his voice. "The chains are in possession of a very powerful individual—a former hero who has turned rogue. He's become quite notorious in these parts, known as 'The Warden of the Abyss.'"
Luke raised an eyebrow. "And where do we find this Warden?"
The man looked around cautiously before replying. "He runs a fighting pit not too far from here. It's a brutal place where adventurers battle for glory and survival. If you want the chains, you'll have to go through him first."
Yami leaned forward, intrigued. "Sounds like a plan. But what's the catch? There's always a catch."
"The Warden is notorious for his tricks and traps," the man explained. "He doesn't just fight with brute strength; he uses the very environment against his opponents. If you enter that pit, you must be prepared for anything."
Hikari smirked, his confidence bubbling over. "Good thing we thrive on chaos then. We'll figure it out."
Edward grinned, clearly excited. "I wouldn't expect anything less from you three. Just remember to watch each other's backs."
Hikari looked at the man. "So quick question, why does this man need to the chains"
The man looked at them and spoke. "He needs to protect a group of Fairy's"
Luke looked at him. "From what"
The man looked at him. "Form a Demon"
Yami looked at him. "Don't you mean Daemon"
The man Chuckled. "No it is a Demon, it is from the Christen Fraction, a bunch of wizard tryd to summon a powerful familiar and will they fucked up".
Hikari raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "So, you're telling us that a powerful demon is threatening a group of fairies, and this Warden is using the chains to protect them?"
"Exactly," the man replied, nodding vigorously. "He's been using the chains to channel his power and create a barrier around their sanctuary. Without them, the fairies would be completely exposed to the demon's wrath."
Luke leaned back, processing the information. "And you think this Warden will just hand over the chains once we beat him? Sounds too easy."
The man shook his head, a hint of worry crossing his face. "It's not that simple. The Warden is fiercely loyal to those fairies. He's not just protecting them; he sees them as family. You'll have to convince him that you're worth the risk."
Yami folded his arms, his expression serious. "So we not only have to beat him but also gain his trust. Great."
Hikari smirked, already thinking of a plan. "Then we'll just have to show him we can handle ourselves in the pit. If we prove our strength, he might consider helping us."
"Good luck with that," the man said, glancing nervously around the bustling room. "But be careful; if that demon finds out about you, he won't hesitate to come after you as well."
"Noted," Luke replied, determination sparking in his eyes. "So, where do we find this fighting pit?"
The man pointed toward a large set of double doors at the far end of the hall. "Through those doors. Just remember, once you're in, there's no backing out. The fights are to the death."
"Perfect," Hikari said with a grin, glancing at his friends. "Just what we need—an exhilarating entrance."
As they approached the doors, they could hear the roar of the crowd beyond, the sounds of combat echoing through the air. The energy was palpable, a mixture of fear, excitement, and anticipation.
Luke took a deep breath, stepping forward. "Ready to kick some ass?"
Yami nodded, his expression serious. "Let's show this Warden what we're made of."
They pushed the doors open and stepped into the fighting pit, where the atmosphere shifted instantly. The arena was massive, surrounded by towering walls adorned with ancient runes and shimmering lights. The crowd cheered and jeered, their shouts blending into a chaotic symphony of energy.
In the center of the pit stood the Warden, a hulking figure clad in armor that glimmered like molten metal. His presence was commanding, and he radiated power. As their eyes met, a smirk crept across his face.
"Welcome, challengers!" he boomed, his voice echoing through the arena. "Are you here to prove yourselves, or are you simply here to die?"
Hikari stepped forward, confidence brimming in his demeanor. "We're here for the chains and to protect the fairies. We'll take you on, but we need to know that you're not just some mindless brute."
The Warden's eyes narrowed, the smirk fading. "You think you can sway me with words? Prove your worth in combat, and maybe I'll consider your request."
"Then let's get this party started!" Luke shouted, drawing his weapon.
With a wave of his hand, the Warden summoned a burst of energy that crackled in the air. The fight had begun, and the crowd erupted in cheers as Hikari, Luke, and Yami prepared to face their first challenge.
As the first wave of challengers entered the pit, the trio fought valiantly, their skills tested against relentless foes. They communicated through instinct, moving as a cohesive unit despite the chaos surrounding them.
However, just as they began to gain the upper hand, a powerful blast sent Yami crashing into the wall, knocking him out cold. Hikari and Luke exchanged worried glances but pushed through the onslaught, their determination ignited.
"Stay focused!" Hikari yelled, deflecting an incoming attack with his weapon. "We can't let Yami's sacrifice be in vain!"
They fought back with ferocity, dispatching opponents left and right. But just when they thought they had the advantage, another wave surged forward, and Luke was caught off guard, knocked unconscious in the fray.
Hikari was left standing alone, adrenaline pumping as he faced down the remaining challengers. He felt the weight of his friends' trust on his shoulders, and he knew he couldn't let them down. Summoning every ounce of strength, he fought back fiercely, channeling the essence of chaos and power within him.
As the dust settled, Hikari emerged victorious, the pit now quiet save for the sounds of his heavy breathing. He looked around, searching for his friends, and found Yami stirring, slowly regaining consciousness.
"Yami!" Hikari shouted, relief washing over him. "Get up! We need to get to the Warden!"
With newfound determination, the two of them worked to rouse Luke, and together, they approached the Warden once more, prepared to prove themselves and protect the fairies they had come to care about.
