Chapter 374: Inspecting
Solast flew close to the storm of dark, from up close, it appeared much less rapid and tumultuous, like a fog slowly approaching, but the senses of a dragon were not easily deceived, there was an incongruity, the storm was deeper within, and yet, from a great distance, it was more easily perceived than the veil of calm fog.
The sun dragon had brought along some of his brethren, for the moment, they passively watched it, expecting the usual hail of projectiles coming from an unknown location, inside this dense smoke, things were not as they should be, having managed to convinced dragon with influence over primordial aspects of this world to come along on some of his many ventures, Solast had come to learn that time and space were distorted within, or rather, forced into complete silence, that was the word used, concepts were muffled and even though they could go in and out without suffering from problems.
This fog sought to take them apart, decaying all, but of course, regal beings such as themselves could shake off the effects of this unnatural environment, today, it seemed like their approach had gone unnoticed, the vehemently aggressive beings within had yet to unleash their wrath upon the invaders.
And as such, Solast and the other majestic dragons with him, moved into the miasma, instantly, it was though they had stepped into another world entirely, all was dark and silent, their rule was absolute, and even the sounds made by the dragons seemed lesser, as though suppressed, Solast himself always felt it especially, as a sun dragon, he was struck heavily by the darkness, his powers made harder to sense and unleash, and indeed, across the reach of dark's domain, lesser suns could be seen floating around, all were either turned completely dark, casting darkness instead of light, or heavily dimmed, barely any brighter than moonlight.
And indeed, the sky itself was completely different, all stars and such were entirely different, leaving place to a central sun of dark, four corrupted moons, two horrific constellations and a blinding star, many other bright dots populating alongside them.
No matter how many times Solast went inside the encroaching fog, he was taken aback, not only was it clearly much larger than it might seem on the outside, but at first, the three-headed dragon had thought that it was all a plague, a corruption of something was than darkness, this had been his first thought, before he peeked inside, what he had seen, were entire ecosystem, and thriving creatures, the denizens of Dragonnerie, at least those with wings, were used to moving great distances, overlook other continents, the oceans, the smaller mass of lands, it was considered a honour to discover draconic brethren, and so, many went on lengthy strolls.
Solast himself had passed by Viridis many times, now, it was completely different, he did not get close, but using his powers over sunlight, he gazed from afar, the continent had gone through a complete transformation, becoming one gigantic fortress, surrounded by defensive formations, floating islands even.
What shocked him the most, was the fact that there were more dragons than before, only that Solast would never attempt to communicate with them.
They were touched by a blight.
"So this is the accursed undeads? They are distinctively different from Ariespes's corpse puppets, I will have to apologise to her, those things are much more uncanny" a light blue scaled dragon with a body structure that could easily allow him to walk upon his hind legs.
"What do you think Temposi? What makes those undeads different from those created by her necromantic breath?" Solast flapped in his wings in place, all three of his heads gazing in different directions, the attacks of the dead always came unexpectedly and without any precursive signs.
"Ariespes's are sustained by her directly, they continue to decay until they can't function anymore, even if it takes a very long time for it to happen, those that I can see however, they appear to be pretty much outside of time, they won't ever wear off or grow weaker without interference" responded Temposi, emitting a low hum afterward.
"What about you Iyrilite?" Solast turned to the third dragon present here, her scale a dark blue, spine lined with crooked horns, but most importantly, upon the center of her forehead, a third, much larger eye moved in its socket unnaturally slowly, analysing all around with seemingly a mind of its own.
"Their souls, and probably everything aspect of their beings, is tightly tied to something other than themselves, I doubt even destroying one utterly will be enough to end them, those undeads are nothing like those created through necromancy, it would appear like they are the real deal, I heard that our first dragonlord turned into an undead upon his passing, but even then, what I heard does not cover for those, even the smallest of them appears eternal in a the truest of senses" Iyrilite was a dragon strongly aligned with souls, and Temposi closely aligned with an aspect of time, so although perhaps not the strongest of their kinds, their words were not based on vibes alone.
But they were the only ones with such affinities that had agreed to come along and go inside the fog, below, the lifeless waters stirred, the miasma taking on a blueish taint. Explore more stories at My Virtual Library Empire
"It would seem that we have overstayed our welcome" not agitated, the three dragons flew away before the guardian could reach them, leaving the dominion and heading back home.
"The black storm will clash with the people of Belliste first" remarked Temposi, indeed, this continent was the closest to Viridis, as for Dragonnerie, it could simply move further away as per the whims of the dragonlord, although, if the danger of the dark was proven, Ronarkatast would definitely not want to run away.
Solast remained silent for a moment, then deciding to lower his altitude, heading for the warmongering continent, making a decision in the spur of the moment.
"Dragonlord Ronarkatast wants dragonkind to thrive, Belliste with its bloodshed and constant warfare is an especially good breeding ground for our brethren, the lord would deplore its loss" he justified himself before anyone even questioned him.
Indeed, draconic species were renowned for their strength, and Belliste provided an environment that was dangerous to all, the warkings did not hesitate to hunt down great creatures, or to capture them to further their goals, the dragons that resided upon the Eastern Peaks were thus especially ferocious and became more so with every generation.
Ronarkatast himself had once mated with a dragon from there for the respect that lesser draconic beings could progress so quickly, so even if he seemed nonchalant, the loss of Belliste would invoke his ire.
As such, Solast would extend a hand upon the savage people of these lands, and warn them much in advance of just what kind of catastrophe was approaching.
