Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 591: Mock

The soldier's maces all impacted with one another, sending themselves away in opposite directions, snarling underneath his mask, he looked to his right, where the goat-like beast worshipper had casually moved after ducking beneath the maces.

"Fast you are!" rather than striking with all of his weapons at once, the four-armed soldier swung them in succession after remembering that he had been taught propers ways to use them.

Not bothering to dose his strength or plan ahead, his strikes went right into the ground and or smashed into a random three, if not for his ridiculous strength, he would be sending himself spinning with his own strikes.

"Stop running, little goat!" making odd mouth noises after that, the follower did not react and continued to observe his enemy.

Weaving in between the obviously telegraphed attacks, even attempts at being sneaky could be seen coming from a kilometer away, the soldier in white wasn't discreet or cunning in the least, everything ended as a most frontal attack as it could get.

'Strength is commendable, speed too I suppose… Being so tall with four arms he probably could have landed a hit if I couldn't read his every move like an open book…' even if the beast worshipper was dodging everything with was very much looked like derisory ease, he wasn't very enthusiastic, the only reason he wasn't having any trouble was because his opponent was as dull as a brick, sprinkle a little bit more of reason into that noggin of his and the fight would immediately get tougher and force the follower to strike back to end it.

"My good friend, I hope all your fellows are as bright as you are" clenching his right hand into a fist, he hopped in between two attacks and struck the invader right in the guts, a grunt escaping the soldier's lips as he hadn't expected such a powerful blow from such a tiny adversary.

'Resilient too, of course…' that hit just now had definitely ruptured something inside, but that only seemed to embolden the stricken, who grew so incensed that he threw his maces away before jumping up in the air, presumably attempting to flatten the emeraldfolk.

That attack was even more predictable than the ones who came before, leading the soldier to fall down with a distinct lack of grace, which only irritated him further to the point that he ripped away his own armour and mask, revealing a symbol unknown the follower carved upon the light-red chest, portion of the invader's skin having seemingly been cut away with a knife before being filled in with a wax-like substance.

"Weakling! In the name of the empire, I'll rip off your arms, bite your head into paste!" flexing his well-built muscles, he tapped his own chest repeatedly and rushed forward with all four arms spread wide open, trying to grab a hold of his opponent.

Not even attempting to decipher whatever language was being thrown at him, the emeraldfolk instead eyed the strange pattern inscribed upon his opponent's chest.

'It can't hurt to try' looking around at his fellows, the invaders weren't flooding in like before, and no one seemed to be having a hard time, as even when one had to face multiple invaders at once, they could handle it as the enemies got in one another's way, the strange cohesion that the soldiers in white from before had seemed largely absent from them.

Though important to analyse, they would best deal with the enemies quickly as more could show up at any moment.

Instead of moving away, the beast follower pawed at the ground with his feet and charged with his horns bared forth, the sudden motion and clear display of aggression did not deter the four-armed invader as he vastly misjudged the speed at which the follower would move, resulting in him getting a taste of horn as they crashed directly into his mouth and teeth.

"Whoa!" the emeraldfolk involuntarily vocalised his surprise as he had never charged like that against a target that required him to jump to the reach, the momentum had carried through as the enemy had tilted his head back, resulting in the charger being flung further away instead of being stopped.

'I hope no one saw that…' turning back, he was rather surprised to see that the soldier was standing up to his feet whilst holding onto his lower jaw, which had lost all of its support and wanted to slack open.

'Well, I did lose quite a bit of my strength by jumping like that…' not to mention that the invader had actually reacted somewhat properly by not trying to push back against the headbutt and instead arching his neck and spine backward to avoid taking the full brunt of this charge.

That was probably the best thing to do if you couldn't avoid it, the follower was a rather old one, if he wasn't a man, he probably would have already attempted to become a priestess, but alas, he could only stay at his current position and make sure a young sorcerer or follower that could do it made it up to the right level instead.

'It's better like that anyways' he reasoned, seeing the soldier in white struggle to stand up, definitely dazed from the strike, approaching while slightly hopping whilst standing on his toes, the follower tilted his head toward the invader and lightly hit him over the head with his horns again, not killing him but most definitely giving a good concussion.

Still, the red-skinned one wasn't falling unconscious, but it didn't matter, punching him directly into the weird symbol, the emeraldfolk grabbed at the odd mixture replaced skin and pulled it away, resulting in his opponent making a stifled, guttural noise that seemed that have come from the depth of his throat, both eyes grew bloodshot and the invader seemed to lose strength as though suffocating.

"Try hitting them in the chest, over there" shouting it out, he noticed that a few of the other invaders had already been dispatched, one having a perfectly circular hole right through their forehead, smoke still rising out from the wound.

The battlemonk responsible for it stepped up next to the follower, a subtle smile on his lips despite the lack of humorous content to his words.

"They are just trying to test a few things, this is a mock-invasion at best" he said, indeed, with the sort of numbers and variety they had demonstrated a year ago, this invasion definitely paled in comparison, it looked like they had just wanted to try out new tools they had gotten their hands on.

"Let's stay on our guard" eyeing the portal intently, only for it to return to its unseen state without anything else happening.
