Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Beya could not tell if she was in heaven or hell right now.
The sweet scent that hit her as soon as she entered Louis's room immediately told her this was the room he usually used,
and that was the problem.
Because the scent of Louis filling the entire room made it impossible for Beya's rationality to remain intact.
And on top of that, Louis's body was pressed completely against Beya, creating an ironic situation that was both unbearably pleasurable and unbearably torturous for her.
With half her reason already flown away, there was no way Beya could refuse Louis's request for a massage, especially when he was wearing clothes that blatantly exposed his pale neck.
Louis's body completely relaxed, and his eyes gradually closed.
The steady, gentle sound of his breathing blatantly signaled that Louis had fallen asleep.
Watching that scene the whole time, Beya quietly parted her lips.
"Louis."
Louis, reacting to the voice calling him, mumbled in his sleep.
Confirming that Louis was completely asleep, Beya's hesitant hand slowly moved downward.
The silent trail of her saliva running down his neck clearly revealed her current state.
Secretively, yet carefully so as not to wake Louis,
Beya's delicate yet controlled hands massaged his neck and shoulders like those of a master artisan crafting a work with painstaking skill.
'It's Louis's fault. He's so defenseless even though we haven't known each other that long......'
As if creating the masterpiece of a lifetime, her touch, completely absorbed by Louis, was both delicate and bold, as well as daring.
"Mmm......"
Every time Louis's sleep talk sounded, Beya's hands would falter greatly and pause,
but mere powerless sleep talk could not stop Beya.
Like an invasive dungeon gradually transforming its surroundings, Beya's hands, which had been caressing Louis's neck and shoulders, kept trying to move downward.
But Beya could no longer move her hands.
Because she felt that if she crossed this line, there would be no turning back.
She thought, 'What line could possibly remain for someone pretending to have been kidnapped like me?' but that was how she felt.
Even though Louis was completely yielding to Beya,
it was simply too strong a stimulus for Beya, who had lived her whole life barely drinking any blood.
Beya gently withdrew her hands and laid Louis down on the bed.
Carefully, so as not to wake him, Beya successfully laid Louis onto the bed and slowly moved away from it.
Thus, after a full two hours, Beya was finally able to get away from Louis.
"Well then...."
Beya looked around Louis's room.
To her eyes, there were many interesting things in Louis's room,
but it was inevitable her gaze first fell on the bookshelf that covered an entire wall.
Just by looking at that, she could easily understand why Louis had said there was nothing special in the library.
Beya stepped closer to the bookshelf.
The books were sorted by subject, and even at a glance, the variety was immense,
making Beya's eyes roam all over the titles.
Starting from the far left of the shelf-that is, the left end of the wall-she examined the titles of the books lined up in order.
[Basics of Ice Magic], [Magic Studies I], [Magic Studies II], [What is Mana?], [Basics of Magic Science], and other books on magic made Beya turn her head toward Louis.
'Was Louis interested in magic?'
Thinking that, yet recalling she had never seen Louis use magic, Beya shifted her gaze further right.
[Types of Elves], [All About Snow Elves], [Humanoids Around the World],
the last of which was a book Beya knew well.
Wasn't it the one co-authored by humans, beastkin, and elves?
Among books published in the Empire explaining the types of humanoids and their traits, it was considered one of the most objective.
Of course, even so, humans were inherently subjective creatures, so it wasn't completely objective.
Just by seeing how many positive things were written about humans, beastkin, and elves, you could estimate its bias.
Beya's gaze, moving a bit more to the right, suddenly stopped.
Humans, the Race of the Earth-Why Did They Come to Rule the World?
The title of this book was enough to irritate Beya, a half vampire.
Her hand pulled the book from the shelf and opened it.
[What makes a human a human in the first place? Why do we call wood elves and merfolk humanoids?
It is probably because humans are the most numerous race in this world and occupy the largest territory.
In other words, among all humanoids, humans are the dominant species with the highest density, blood, and frequency.
The earthbound human race expanded its territory through undeniable unity, cooperation, and overwhelming adaptability,
and humanoids unable to cope with that gradually lost their habitats and were pushed out. For example, wood elves retreated deeper into the forest as their woods were destroyed by humans,
which caused their habitat to overlap with that of the high elves who had long lived deep in the forests worshipping the World Tree, leading to various problems.]
Immersed in the book, Beya turned the pages as if enchanted.
[It might be natural that earthbound humans became the most prosperous race in the world.
What is earth? It is the very foundation of this world, beneath our feet at every moment.
Ultimately, earth is the cradle of life for most plants.
Even forests originate from the soil. In short, earth is the cradle and simultaneously the grave of all living things.
Therefore, humans are superior to other humanoids, and it is right that humans rule over them.]
Beya's eyes narrowed as she read the last sentence.
'Humans boast about being the race of the earth, yet they have no special racial traits. Even dwarves gain sturdier bodies underground, at least.'
Though humans were indeed the 'race of the earth' acknowledged by the goddess, Beya couldn't easily agree that powerless humans were superior to other humanoids.
After all, even Beya, a half-blood of human and vampire, did not possess the 'race of the earth' trait.
Only the trait 'race of the night (half)' was plainly listed.
As if the 'race of the night' trait overshadowed the 'race of the earth' trait.
Besides, vampires possessed the innate ability 'Bloodsucking.'
If one could see the status windows of a newborn human and a newborn vampire,
assuming both were ordinary and not awakened with abilities at birth, the human would have 'none' for innate abilities and only the trait 'race of the earth,'
while the vampire would have 'Bloodsucking' as an ability and two traits: 'race of the night.'
'What a waste of time.'
Frowning, she returned the book to the shelf.
Beya's gaze shifted further to the right.
[Dungeons-A History], [Types of Dungeons and How to Conquer Them], [Invasive Dungeons-Are They Really Dangerous?], [Dungeons, Magic, and Civilization].
Next came the books about dungeons.
Since she already knew well about dungeons, Beya moved further right, scanning the titles.
But all she saw were novels.
Most of which were considered masterpieces within the Empire.
Losing interest, her gaze drifted away from the bookshelf.
The next thing to catch Beya's attention was the desk.
On the desk sat a single notebook; the lack of a title was enough to pique her curiosity.
Beya picked up the notebook lying on the desk.
When she opened it, what she saw were drawings.
The unusual thing was that the quality of those drawings was quite high.
Mesmerized by the beautiful images that captivated her eyes, Beya unconsciously flipped through the pages.
"This is..."
Beya's eyes narrowed upon seeing a page stained black, as if ink had been spilled on it.
'...Could this be drawn by hand?'
Such a mistake would be unthinkable for a book sold for money,
but entirely possible if it was a hand-drawn sketch.
Moreover, the doodles scattered throughout lent further credibility.
After flipping to the last page, Beya's gaze returned to the bookshelf.
There were several notebooks on the shelf that looked identical to the one she had just read.
Beya picked the one on the far left among those notebooks.
It was covered in grime and fingerprints, as if untouched for years.
'It does feel like I'm invading his privacy, but...'
The moment she opened the first page, Beya's face stiffened completely.
Because on the paper was a drawing of Beya's own face.
