Pokemon: A different Ash

"Vermilion Gym, Gym Challenge, Gym Trainer Lt. Surge versus Pallet Town's Ash! The number of Pokémon used in the competition is limited to two. The winner will be the one whose opponent's Pokémon are unable to battle!"

"Challenger, you may now begin the battle!" 

The woman who had previously spoken moved to the side of the field to act as the referee. She announced the rules, and the match officially began.

"Go! Voltorb!" 

Lt. Surge was the first to send out his Pokémon. A spherical Pokémon appeared before him, its body divided into two parts: red on top and white on the bottom, resembling a Poké Ball. 

On its upper half, a pair of frowning eyes gave it an angry expression. This was Voltorb. Ash had always found it curious how Voltorb and its evolution, Electrode, looked so much like Poké Balls.

Voltorb's temper was completely different from Electrode's. Voltorb had a fiery personality, while Electrode was more cheerful and loved playing pranks.

"How about it, kid? Wanna take a picture of your cute little pet before I fry it?" Lt. Surge taunted as he eyed Ash.

"Don't worry! You're going down! Go, Eevee!"

Ash threw his Poké Ball, and with a flash of light, Eevee appeared on the field, standing confidently before the crowd.

"Huh? A cute little Pokémon? Too bad it'll be zapped soon!" Lt. Surge mocked as he saw Ash send out Eevee.

Before Ash could respond, Eevee, clearly irritated by Lt. Surge's words, suddenly took action. Without waiting for Ash's command, Eevee opened its mouth and launched Swift, sending countless golden stars flying toward Voltorb.

The gym's female referee didn't intervene, as the battle had already begun, and challengers were allowed to attack first.

"Oh? Feisty little thing! I like it! Voltorb, use Discharge!" 

Lt. Surge was unfazed by Eevee's sudden move and instead seemed impressed by its fiery spirit, a trait that resonated with his own personality.

Boom! 

Voltorb unleashed a barrage of electricity from its body, far stronger than a typical Thunder Shock, aiming directly at the incoming Swift attack.

Bang! Bang bang! 

The two moves collided, causing a powerful explosion. Smoke filled the center of the battlefield, obscuring the view from both sides. But Lt. Surge wasted no time.

"Voltorb, use Rollout!"

Through the smoke, Voltorb could be seen rolling rapidly, gaining speed as it moved. It then launched itself through the haze, emerging on the other side, barreling toward Eevee at full force.

"Eevee, use Dig!" 

Ash remained calm and quickly commanded his partner. Eevee leapt into the air and swiftly dug into the ground, disappearing just as Voltorb's Rollout attack sped past where Eevee had been.

"What?!" Lt. Surge was caught off guard, surprised by the quick response.

"You should know that pure Electric-type Pokémon like Voltorb don't have many weaknesses. The only thing they really fear are Ground-type moves."

Boom!

At the same moment that Lt. Surge expressed his surprise, Eevee burst from the ground right beneath Voltorb. With the force of its Dig attack, Eevee slammed into Voltorb fiercely.

Woo!!!

Voltorb was sent flying into the air by the powerful strike, letting out a muffled sound before crashing back down. Its spherical body rolled uncontrollably across the battlefield.

"Quick Attack!" Ash seized the opportunity. After Eevee landed, a silver flash of energy enveloped it as it sped forward at incredible speed.

"Voltorb, use Discharge!" 

Lt. Surge quickly shouted his command. Voltorb steadied itself, and electricity surged from its body, releasing another powerful Discharge in front of it.

Eevee's speed increased as it dashed forward, dodging the blasts of electric energy. Explosions rocked the ground as Discharge struck, but Eevee's Quick Attack allowed it to nimbly evade the strikes.

Boom!

Dodging the last of the electric onslaught, Eevee slammed into Voltorb, sending it flying again.

"Yeah!!" Misty cheered excitedly from the sidelines. Ash clearly had the upper hand now, and even the two Gym members standing nearby looked on in surprise.

"Huh? You're not like the usual rookies," Lt. Surge muttered, impressed by Ash's strength.

"You talk too much. Eevee, use Shadow Ball!" 

Ash ignored the comment and pressed his advantage. After striking Voltorb, Eevee opened its mouth and began to form a dark purple Shadow Ball, growling as it condensed the energy and launched it forward.

"Voltorb, use Light Screen!" Lt. Surge reacted quickly.

A blue glow surrounded Voltorb as it summoned a Light Screen. The shimmering barrier appeared just in time to meet Eevee's Shadow Ball.

The Shadow Ball collided with the Light Screen, resulting in a powerful explosion. Smoke billowed across the battlefield, but the Light Screen had successfully blocked the attack.

"Voltorb, use Rollout!"

Through the smoke, Voltorb once again rolled into action, speeding towards Eevee.

"That won't work again. Eevee, use Dig!" 

Ash frowned slightly but remained calm. Eevee dove underground once more, evading Voltorb's Rollout just like before.

"Eevee, rush out and use Shadow Ball!" Ash called out as soon as Eevee avoided the attack.

Boom!

Eevee emerged from the ground behind Voltorb, another Shadow Ball forming in its mouth. The dark energy swirled and expanded as Eevee prepared to launch the attack. But just then, a smirk appeared on Lt. Surge's face.

"Voltorb, use Self-destruct!"
