Chapter 22: Training Pokémon - Part 3
Deep in the forest, inside the small wooden cabin, five young people were eating breakfast in the cabin's living room. Yes, it was Brock and his group having breakfast there.
Half an hour later, Brock and the others finished their breakfast and went outside the cabin. Melanie placed some Pokémon food on the ground. Soon after, all the Pokémon recuperating there came over to eat the Pokémon food.
Watching the Pokémon eating, Melanie asked Brock worriedly, "Brock, you said you could transfer all these Pokémon to your home... Can your family really take good care of them?"
Hearing Melanie, Brock also looked at the Pokémon and replied, "Don't worry, Melanie! If these Pokémon are transferred to my home, someone will be there to care for them. Melanie, are you really sure you want to travel with us?"
Hearing Brock's question, Melanie explained, "Yes, Brock! My dream is to become a Pokémon Breeder, and you are a Pokémon Breeder. I want to follow you and learn how to be a proper Pokémon Breeder. Would you be willing to teach me?" After speaking, Melanie bowed to Brock. "Please, Brock!"
Hearing Melanie's request, Brock quickly replied, "Melanie, can you let me think about it for a moment?" After speaking, Brock started thinking, Should I really bring Melanie along? If I don't, she did save my life... But if I do, that's another girl added to the group. Not only will my cooking workload increase, but if there's danger, I'll have to protect them too... I'm afraid I won't be able to manage!
"Brock, what's there to think about? Just agree to let Sister Melanie come! One more person just means things will be livelier!" Misty interjected after hearing Brock hesitate.
Hearing Misty, Brock thought again, Melanie probably knows how to cook, right? I can teach her the Pokémon Breeder knowledge, let her take care of the Pokémon... then I can slack off! If there's danger, I just need to teach Ash to get stronger, that should be enough. Right, let's do that!
Snapping out of his thoughts, Brock said, "Alright! By the way, Melanie, do you know how to cook?"
Hearing Brock, Melanie replied, "Yes, I can cook! Brock, does that mean you agree to let me travel with you?"
"That's right! From now on, cooking duties are yours. No problem, right, Melanie?" Brock replied.
"No problem!" Melanie said happily. Hearing her agreement, Brock thought, Great, I don't have to cook anymore! Don't think I'm lazy... okay, fine, I am lazy. What can you do about it?!
Seeing Brock still chatting with Melanie and Misty, Ash said impatiently, "Brock! It's getting late, stop chatting! We should get going! I want to get to Vermilion City soon and get that badge!"
Hearing the impatience in Ash's voice, Brock patiently replied, "Ash, let's just spend today here. I need to train my Pokémon. We'll hit the road tomorrow. Okay?"
Hearing Brock, Ash replied, "Alright then. I need to train my Pokémon too." He was about to take out his Poké Balls to release his Pokémon.
Seeing this, Brock grabbed Ash's hand, stopping him from releasing his Pokémon. "Ash, hold on releasing your Pokémon for a bit. Let me arrange things for these Pokémon here first, then you can release yours. If you listen to me, how about I let you catch that Bulbasaur?" Brock said, pointing towards the Bulbasaur among the group of wild Pokémon nearby.
Hearing Brock, Ash looked in the direction Brock was pointing. Sure enough, there was a Bulbasaur eating Pokémon food with the others. Ash stared intently at the Bulbasaur and agreed to Brock's condition, "Okay! But Brock, you have to be quick! I'm waiting to catch that Bulbasaur!"
"Okay, right away," Brock replied, then began the process of capturing the Pokémon. Just as he was about to take out Poké Balls to throw, he suddenly turned his head to Misty, Daisy, and Melanie and said, "Misty, Daisy, Melanie, do you want to catch any of these Pokémon? Tell me which ones you want, and I'll leave them for you. The rest... I'll capture them and transfer them to my home."
"Brock, leave that Oddish for me!" Misty said happily, pointing at the Oddish.
Hearing Brock, Daisy shook her head and said, "Brock, I don't need any, thanks. Just send the Pokémon back to your home."
"Brock, just leave that Paras for me," Melanie said, pointing at a Paras eating Pokémon food.
Hearing their answers, Brock took out his Poké Balls and began capturing the remaining Pokémon.
After a little while, Brock had captured all the Pokémon, except of course for the ones Ash and the others wanted. Brock kept Meowth and Zubat with him. He transferred all the other captured Pokémon home. (In this world's Pokédex system, you didn't need to have a full party of six Pokémon before you could send others home).
After Brock transferred the captured Pokémon home, Ash asked curiously, "Brock, didn't you just catch so many Pokémon? How come you only have two Poké Balls on you now? Where are the other Poké Balls?"
Hearing Ash, Misty looked at him scornfully and said, "Ash, are you stupid?! You can transfer captured Pokémon home using the Pokédex! Don't you ever read up on common knowledge about Pokémon?!"
"Misty, you're the stupid one! I just forgot to read that part! Besides, as long as my Pokémon and I can beat our enemies, that's all that matters!" Ash retorted, blushing because Misty had hit a nerve.
Hearing Ash's response, Brock interjected, "Ash, that's not quite right. When battling others, you should understand their Pokémon. That way, you can choose Pokémon that have an advantage against the opponent! Of course, just choosing a counter Pokémon doesn't guarantee a win; it still depends on your commands, your Pokémon's abilities, and overall strength."
After listening to Brock, Ash thought for a moment, Brock has a point! Then starting tomorrow, I'll begin studying Pokémon knowledge seriously. Hopefully, that will help me get stronger.
"Ash! Wake up!" Brock said worriedly, seeing Ash spacing out again. "Don't you want to catch Bulbasaur? Snap out of it quickly, battle it, and then catch it!"
Hearing Brock, Ash snapped back to reality. "Right! I'll definitely catch Bulbasaur!" After saying this, Ash walked up in front of the Bulbasaur and declared loudly, "Bulbasaur, battle me! I'm going to catch you and make you my Pokémon!"
Hearing Ash's challenge, Bulbasaur cried out, stared intently at Ash, and then firmly struck the ground with the vines on its back.
Seeing Bulbasaur's stance, Ash said, "I understand!" He then took out a Poké Ball, threw it, and shouted, "Go! Pidgeotto! Use Gust on Bulbasaur!"
Hearing Ash's command, Pidgeotto powerfully beat its wings, creating a fierce gust of wind that swept across the ground towards Bulbasaur.
Seeing the Gust approach, Bulbasaur shot out two vines and grabbed onto nearby trees. The Gust washed over Bulbasaur. Because Bulbasaur had anchored itself with its vines, the Gust hit it but didn't blow it away, resulting in only minor damage.
