Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Repelling the Attack
Under the surge of electricity, the Tentacool, which were not even at the elite level, quickly retreated beyond the range of the electric Pokémon's attacks. They used Water Pulse to create waves, helping the Tentacruel advance swiftly.
"Raichu, use Thunder!"
"Have your Pokémon unleash their strongest Electric-type moves! If the Tentacruel break through, it'll be much harder for us to handle them!"
"Be prepared to summon nearby League trainers in case of emergencies!"
Officer Jenny demonstrated commendable command in handling the Tentacruel invasion.
The continuous barrage of Electric-type moves not only weakened the advancing Tentacruel but also ensured that those who managed to push through were significantly drained. As a result, the Tentacruel's combat effectiveness against the rested Blastoise and other Water-type Pokémon under the police's command was considerably reduced.
"Raichu, keep using Thunder to suppress them!"
"Blastoise, prepare your Hydro Pump!"
"Keep the Electric Pokémon on the offensive while the Water Pokémon get ready to attack alongside my Blastoise."
"If your Pokémon can no longer hold out, swap them out quickly to prevent injuries."
"Nurse Joy and her team should be on their way. If we can hold the line, we will definitely repel the Tentacruel and Tentacool assault!"
A series of crisp commands echoed as the police officers on the beach sprang into action.
Just as Officer Jenny said, Ron could see Nurse Joy and her team approaching from afar.
Unless the Tentacruel had enough elite or high-ranking members, or if there were Tentacruel at the pseudo-Elite Four or Elite Four level, it would be nearly impossible for them to breach the defensive line established by Officer Jenny and her team.
As predicted, the Tentacruel began to show signs of fatigue after enduring the electrical bombardment and then battling the fully rested Water Pokémon.
Especially when Nurse Joy and her team arrived to restore the police Pokémon's stamina, the attackers were repeatedly repelled.
One burst of energy, followed by decline, and then exhaustion.
After several failed assaults, the Tentacruel grew wary.
Casting furious, resentful glances at Officer Jenny, the police officers, and the distant Lampool City, the strongest Tentacruel had no choice but to give the order to retreat.
In the distant waters, a particularly small and weak Tentacool, only at Level 10 or so, radiated a brief flash of pure blue light before it vanished.
In the vast ocean, such a fleeting phenomenon naturally went unnoticed by humans or Pokémon.
Watching the Tentacruel and Tentacool disappear into the waves, Officer Jenny breathed a sigh of relief and began organizing searches in the ocean. They hoped to find any incapacitated Tentacruel or Tentacool left behind by their group.
If any were found, they would be taken back for treatment by Nurse Joy and later returned to the sea—a small gesture to ease relations between the two sides.
Even until the very end, Ron never encountered the gigantic Tentacruel. Perhaps this was because Ash, the protagonist, was not present. Ron, however, felt no regret about it.
Given his current strength, if that giant Tentacruel had appeared, the most he could do would be to observe it from afar.
After resolving the Tentacruel and Tentacool attack, the beach remained closed to tourists, and television broadcasts urged people not to venture into restricted areas.
As for the culprits behind the incident, they remained in the hospital, awaiting Officer Jenny's wrath.
With no opportunity for leisure on the beach, Ron turned his attention to the local delicacies of Lampool City.
Thanks to his Machamp, Ron was able to buy a variety of snacks, taste a bite, and then leave the rest to Machamp, maximizing the number of dishes he could enjoy.
By evening, Ron arrived at Yodding Pier, preparing to set sail for Maiden's Peak.
Perhaps because the Ghost Festival had not yet arrived, there were few visitors at Maiden's Peak. Most, like Ron, were simply curious tourists.
Near the Maiden Statue, unlike the other visitors who took photos or searched for the rumored ghostly maiden, Ron stood silently, lost in thought.
His Kirlia, sensing the presence of Ghost-type Pokémon, confirmed that such creatures had once been active there.
Ron, having no intention of capturing a Gastly, made no moves. Instead, he closed his eyes, recalling the tale of the maiden.
Although it resembled the origin of the Lover's Rock legend, its grandeur was undeniable.
With his eyes closed, Ron seemed to see a young maiden waiting tirelessly by the sea for her lover's return.
Perhaps her lover had perished in war. Perhaps she already knew she would never see him again. But still, she stood there every day.
This reminded Ron of a line from Dr. Hiriluk, Chopper's mentor in One Piece:
"When does a person truly die? Is it when their heart is pierced by a bullet? No. Is it when they succumb to an incurable disease? No. Is it when they drink poisonous mushroom soup? Of course not! It's when they are forgotten by the world!"
Perhaps the maiden thought simply: if even she, as his lover, forgot about him, then he would truly be gone.
Opening his eyes, Ron bowed slightly to the Maiden Statue and then in the direction of the hiding Gastly, as indicated by Kirlia.
Having done this, he turned and left to continue his journey.
Watching Ron's departing figure, the Gastly felt an unexpected fondness for this stranger, despite never speaking a word to him.
For a lively Gastly to stay in one place for so long, loneliness was inevitable.
However, after glancing at the Maiden Statue, the Gastly vanished.
Having decided to guard the maiden's legend, Gastly remained steadfast in its choice, unchanged by Ron.
As Ron embarked on his journey, his next destination was Vermilion City and its Vermilion Gym.
Before that, regular training resumed.
Machamp focused on honing its Finger Pistol technique. Among Ron's team, Machamp had progressed furthest in the Six Powers techniques, having already mastered Shave and Moonwalk and even executing the combination move used by Lucci, Razor*.
Now, Machamp needed to practice tirelessly to perfect the techniques of the Finger Pistol.
Meanwhile, Persian and Bellossom began Moonwalk training, drawing from Machamp's experience.
Nidorino, however, lagged behind due to physical limitations, progressing slower than Kirlia in mastering Shave.
This situation would soon improve, though. Once Nidorino evolved, its training pace would likely increase significantly.
As they trained and journeyed, Ron and his team entered the forest once again.
[TL/N: Razor: a combination of Moonwalk and Shave, where Lucci, a character from One Piece, uses Shave in a zigzag motion in midair, allowing extremely fast movements in three dimensions.]
