Chapter 12: Battle against the Ground

"Come back again!"

After Squirtle resumed the competition condition, Ryan challenged Bruce once more.

Two minutes later.

"Squirtle is unable to battle, the winner is Bruce!"

"Come back again!" Ryan gritted his teeth and shouted loudly.

"Squirtle is unable to battle, the winner is Bruce!"

Halfway through the match, Squirtle fell to the ground for the fifth time.

Ryan shouted those two words again: "Come back again!"

But this time, Bruce frowned slightly, pointed at Squirtle on the ground, and said in a deep voice: "Did you not notice Squirtle's competition condition?"

"What?"

Ryan's face froze as he turned to look, only to see that Squirtle had pulled its limbs into its shell, with only its head exposed.

At that moment, its purple eyes were filled with resistance, and it decided to ignore Ryan's gentle call.

Ryan stood frozen, unsure of what to do.

Bruce's voice sounded behind him: "For Pokémon, one or two failures aren't terrible.

"But continuous failures will cause them to lose the will and desire to fight, and may even lead to resistance against battling."

"Obviously, Squirtle's current competition condition is not suitable for continuing to fight."

"As a trainer, you must always pay attention to their psychological condition."

Ryan's face flushed at these words, and he lowered his head in embarrassment.

The young referee looked at Bruce in surprise. He had worked there for several years and it was the first time he had met such a young man.

Not only crushing his opponent in every battle but also saying such meaningful words.

Yes, after all, Squirtle is just a novice Pokémon, immature in mind, and would definitely feel frustrated when facing consecutive failures.

Once this happens, it is necessary for the trainer to adjust in time.

Clearly, Ryan did not do this.

But that's okay; he's just a novice trainer and needs to grow through failures and lessons.

However, because of this, Bruce's maturity and merit were becoming more and more evident.

"I understand..." Ryan hugged Squirtle in his arms, showing guilt and self-reproach.

Immediately after, he thanked Bruce: "Thank you, classmate."

"I won't continue battling; I will pay you the money I lost now."

"You're welcome; just go back and adjust Squirtle's psychological competition condition." Bruce waved his hand indifferently.

What a joke! How could Bayne lack such a small amount of money?

Hearing this, Ryan looked deeply at Bruce, as if his appearance was firmly imprinted in his mind, and immediately said: "Student, I'm leaving first."

After Ryan left, Bruce approached the young referee and said: "Help me contact a training partner."

The young referee nodded and asked: "Are there any specific requirements?"

"The Pokémon must be of the Ground, Water, or Rock type," Bruce replied.

Since this is a battle training, it's natural to choose Pokémon that can counter Torchic, in order to achieve excellent results.

—I understand. —The young referee nodded slightly.

"Wait." Bruce suddenly stopped the young referee who was about to turn and leave, and continued: "Can I choose it myself?"

"Yes." The young referee looked a bit puzzled and then nodded.

Personal selection is, of course, to prevent the level difference between the two Pokémon from hindering their performance as Laser Focus.

The battle club is large in scale and has long-term reserves of Pokémon of different levels and attributes.

Not long after, Bruce personally selected two level 15 Pokémon.

Cubone and Rhyhorn, respectively.

The training partner was a middle-aged man who did not smile, and the referee remained the same as before.

The battle format is 1 against 1. If either Pokémon is unable to battle, the battle will end!" The referee raised the flag and announced loudly.

"Battle begins!" Seeing both sides ready, the referee lowered the flag and said.

"Go, Cubone."

"Let's go, Torchic!"

Torchic stepped forward, quickly walking from Bruce's side to the battlefield, eyeing the Cubone that appeared in the arena.

Cubone wore a skull that revealed a pair of piercing eyes and held a bone club, which was its weapon.

[Pokémon: Cubone (Ground)

Ability: Thick Club

Title: Gym

Level: Lv15 (normal level)]

"Cubone, Bone Club!"

"Torchic, Quick Attack!"

On the field,Cubone threw the bone stick in its hand and spun at extremely high speed, producing a howling wind and closing in on Torchic in an instant.

But Torchic's speed was faster; it turned into an afterimage that was hard to catch with the naked eye, evading the bone stick with astonishing speed and crashing into Cubone.

"Karla!"

Clearly, Cubone did not expect Torchic to be so fast. It felt pain in its abdomen, its face froze, and it flew backward a few steps.

"Is this trick again?"

"This Torchic must have been specially trained for speed," the young referee secretly guessed as he watched this scene.

"Headbutt!" The training partner, experienced in combat, did not panic but calmly commanded.

At this moment, the two Pokémon were close, and Cubone's attack rate had improved immensely.

"Karla!"

Cubone's eyes froze, a dazzling white light blossomed on its forehead, and it launched itself at Torchic!

However, Torchic reacted quickly, kicking off the ground with its two feet, instantly raising a cloud of gravel and rushing toward Cubone.

"Karla!"

The two Pokémon were too close, and Cubone had no reaction at all. Its eyes were struck by sand and gravel, obscuring its view.

For a moment, Cubone lost sight of Torchic and attacked blindly in the air.

"Flamethrower!" Bruce's eyes lit up as he spoke in a deep voice.

The Flamethrower was precisely the result of six days of training for Torchic, and it had mastered this skill with finesse.

"Chirp!"

Torchic opened its mouth, orange flames bursting forth, and in an instant, a thick column of fire gathered, the heat wave rising, completely engulfing Cubone!

As the column of fire dissipated, Cubone was left burned all over and fell to the ground with a 'boom'.

"Cubone is unable to battle, the winner is Bruce!" The referee immediately raised the flag.

"How could this be..." Seeing this, the training partner was horrified and remained stunned for a moment.

Although Cubone's strength was almost the same as Torchic's, it had the advantage of the type.

Moreover, as a trainer who had experienced many battles, he didn't know how much combat experience Bruce had.

Yet still, Cubone was easily defeated by Torchic.

Just as he was pondering this, Torchic, who was cheering and jumping in the field, was suddenly enveloped by an explosion of dazzling white light.
