Pokémon Breeder's Story

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Jenny's Assistance

Chapter 17: Jenny's Assistance

At the breeding center.

Jenny Jun sat primly on the sofa, watching as Bewear brought over a glass of juice and placed it in front of her.

Kenji sat opposite her. Recalling what the boy named Leaf had said earlier, he said, "Thank you very much, Officer Jenny." He was referring to her helping him promote the breeding center in town.

Jenny Jun smiled and said, "You don't have to call me Officer Jenny. Actually, based on seniority, you should be calling me 'big sister'."

Kenji was taken aback.

The original's memory didn't contain much about the Jenny family, only some fragments of him refusing their invitation to return to the family with them.

"Your mother was my aunt's cousin. We came to Fallarbor Town three years ago. They wanted to take you back to the family, but you refused," Jenny said.

Kenji nodded. The original Kenji had indeed refused. For him, the Jenny family was a completely unfamiliar place, whereas this was where he had grown up. His parents were also buried here, so he didn't want to go anywhere else.

Kenji remained silent. After all, he was not the original Kenji.

"Sigh." Jenny Jun looked at the pitiful child. His parents had passed away, and to maintain peace in the region and fight against criminals and Pokémon Hunters, his maternal grandparents and aunt had also died heroically in the line of duty years ago. Although this was a matter of great pride for an Officer Jenny, it was incredibly painful for the family members left behind.

Well, it's best not to bring up those things. Now that little Kenji was managing the breeding center so well, it showed that he was ready to start a new life. As a fellow member of the Jenny family, she should help him out!

Jenny's expression turned serious as she got down to business. "I came here this time because there's something I want to ask you."

"What is it?" Kenji blinked.

Jenny Jun said, "If you need Pokémon eggs, I can contact the Hoenn League and have a batch sent to you."

After all, if one wanted to run a breeding center, Pokémon were an indispensable part of it.

"And the price?" Kenji asked.

"No money is needed." Jenny Jun shook her head and explained, "Every year in the Hoenn region, there are some wild Pokémon left homeless due to natural disasters. Humans and Pokémon are all beings living together in this world. The Hoenn League can't just sit by and do nothing, so they send people to rescue these displaced Pokémon."

"These rescued Pokémon sometimes lay eggs, and there are also abandoned eggs found in towns and in the wild. With no one to care for them, these eggs are generally sent to two places."

"One is to hatch them and give them to various Professors to be given to new trainers as their starter Pokémon."

"The remaining eggs are given to nearby breeding centers, to be cared for and then sold to trainers in need."

Of course, the "sale" here did not refer to the price of the Pokémon itself, but rather the fee for the breeder's hard work and care.

"The Hoenn League has only one request: that you help those children find suitable trainers."

"I understand," Kenji nodded. The breeding center was in dire need of these Pokémon eggs right now, so he did not refuse Jenny Jun's kind offer. "In that case, I'll have to trouble you!"

A smile appeared on Jenny Jun's lips. "You're welcome. I believe you will be an excellent breeder."

She could tell just from how close the little Growlithe was with him. After all, Growlithe are very intelligent Pokémon.

As Jenny Jun was thinking this, she couldn't help but look at the little Growlithe. Just then, the puppy suddenly sneezed.

Instantly, a sprinkle of sparkling dust floated out of its nostrils. The Bewear standing guard nearby was unfortunately affected by these specks of light. It soon let out a big yawn and became drowsy.

Jenny Jun: "?"

Was that... Yawn? No, it looked more like Sleep Powder! But how could a Growlithe use the move Sleep Powder?!

A large question mark appeared over Jenny Jun's head. What was happening before her was beyond her comprehension. Jenny Jun stared blankly at the little Growlithe. Even someone as calm as her was a bit dumbfounded at this moment.

"A Sleep Powder Growlithe?!"

"What... what in the world is going on?" Jenny Jun turned to look at Kenji.

According to her knowledge, it was absolutely impossible for a Growlithe to learn the move Sleep Powder!

Kenji: "..."

He also hadn't expected Growlithe to use Sleep Powder in such a manner. Was it an alternative form of Yawn?

Facing Jenny Jun's perplexed gaze, Kenji scratched his head in embarrassment. "Before Growlithe hatched, I tried explaining the principles of the move Sleep Powder to it. I was just thinking to myself, if an Oddish can learn Sleep Powder, why can't a Growlithe? So I gave it a try, and I didn't expect Growlithe to actually learn it!"

The power of "I just figured"!

Jenny Jun: "..."

It sounds somewhat reasonable. But this isn't scientific at all, is it?!

Jenny Jun fell silent. Coming from a large, distinguished family, she instantly considered many possibilities.

One, this Growlithe was exceptionally talented.

Two, all previous scientific knowledge was wrong, and Growlithe could indeed learn Sleep Powder, but people just hadn't discovered it yet.

Three, this was little Kenji's special power.

She immediately ruled out the first and second possibilities. Jenny Jun knew Growlithe very well; there was no way it could learn Sleep Powder. There had never been a single case among the countless Growlithe in her family.

So, the third option? If little Kenji truly possessed such a power, then he was truly born to be a breeder!

"..."

Forget it. In any case, as long as little Kenji is safe and sound, that's all that matters. Jenny Jun gave up on digging deeper.

She had some matters at the police station waiting for her. She stood up and said, "I'll contact the Hoenn League later. They should give a reply in a while."

"Okay, then I'll be counting on you," Kenji said, thanking her again.

Jenny Jun left. She had many things to do and couldn't stay here for too long. Once she contacted the Hoenn League and the Pokémon eggs were approved, she would come back to visit little Kenji!

Kenji's heart was filled with gratitude for Jenny Jun. She had truly given them a great deal of help. With that batch of Pokémon eggs, the operation of the breeding center could officially get on track. But before that, he just needed to wait patiently.

Throughout the morning, quite a few visitors came to the breeding center, though most of them were children under the age of ten or those who had just turned ten. Most were from common families who had heard from Officer Jenny that a breeding center had opened here, so they all ran over from town to inquire.

For these children who could potentially become future customers, Kenji naturally had to entertain them well.
