Chapter 27: The Clefairy's Happy Life

Although the work at the breeding center seemed very easy, in reality, the variety of large and small tasks was immense. Cleaning, cooking, feeding Pokémon, serving guests, cultivating herbs, tidying guest rooms... For Kenji and Bewear to complete all these tasks alone would take a considerable amount of time. But with the Clefairy's help, the result would be completely different.

Taking advantage of the lack of customers, Kenji and Bewear conducted an emergency special training session for the Clefairy and assigned them different jobs and tasks. There were currently twelve Clefairy at the breeding center. Kenji divided them into six pairs with the following roles:

Chef Clefairy, to prepare food for everyone.

Housekeeper Clefairy, to handle the cleaning.

Waiter Clefairy, to greet guests.

Caretaker Clefairy, to look after and feed the Pokémon in the backyard.

Farmer Clefairy, to water, fertilize, and harvest the herbs and vegetables.

And Doctor Clefairy, who were skilled in healing moves and could provide medical services to the Pokémon at the center.

The six pairs were trained by either Kenji or Bewear. Bewear was good at housework, cleaning, and feeding Pokémon, so it was responsible for teaching the Housekeeper and Caretaker Clefairy. The remaining eight Clefairy were personally trained by Kenji.

First, he bought two Wailmer Pails from Fallarbor Town and distributed them to the two Farmer Clefairy, teaching them to water the seeds in the fields at a fixed time every day. The breeding center currently had no Water-type Pokémon, so he had to rely on the Clefairy to lend a hand.

The Doctor Clefairy's job was even simpler. Their "hospital" was set up inside the spaceship. If any Pokémon at the breeding center were injured, they could go there to seek treatment.

Next was the inn portion. The Waiter Clefairy's job was also very simple: if a guest was staying at the inn and ordered food, they needed to deliver the prepared meal to the guest's table for them to enjoy.

As for the most difficult role, the Chef Clefairy... teaching the other Clefairy took Kenji less than a day, but it took a full three days to teach the two Chef Clefairy how to make ramen, sandwiches, and squeeze berry juice.

Looking at the two Clefairy currently making sandwiches, Kenji let out a slow breath. For now, these few dishes were sufficient. After all, their main focus was still the breeding center.

Kenji had thought these jobs would be very difficult for the Clefairy and that perhaps they would lose interest after a few days, especially since they had never encountered such things before. But it turned out he had overthought it. The Clefairy were clearly enjoying themselves.

"Clefairy!"

In just one day and one night, the Clefairy had completely adapted to life at the breeding center. This was because here, there was an endless supply of food to eat and milk and juice to drink, almost exactly the same as the "land flowing with milk and honey" recorded in the legends of their home planet!

Here, they didn't need to go out to find food themselves, nor would they encounter danger. Every day at mealtimes, the human named Kenji would bring them lots of delicious things. The Clefairy had never lived like this before. Their own planet didn't have these things. This place was so much fun!

However, play was play; they still had to work seriously. Kenji had told them they had an employment relationship: they helped with the work, and in return, Kenji would help them repair their ship and search for the energy stones needed for its voyage. As long as they collected enough Moon Stones, they could leave this planet and continue their journey to find the "land flowing with milk and honey"!

At night, the Clefairy, having worked all day, gathered inside their spaceship. They chatted about the legendary place and discussed leaving the planet once they had collected enough Moon Stones.

Finally, the two Chef Clefairy said with faces full of longing, "Clefairy!" (Making food is so much fun, I love making food!) When it saw the guests enjoying the dishes it had made with care, that feeling... it was true happiness!

The Farmer Clefairy felt the same way. Today, Oddish had told them that although it was just a tiny seed buried in the soil, if you gave it time, the seed would sprout, grow, blossom, and bear fruit.

"Clefairy~" It makes a Clefairy so excited to think about!

And not only that. The Farmer Clefairy looked at the Chef Clefairy and said, "Clefairy!" (Kenji said that when the seeds we plant grow up and bear fruit, we can give them to you to make delicious food!)

"Clefairy?!" The Chef Clefairy's eyes lit up. Really?

"Clefairy!" The Farmer Clefairy nodded repeatedly. Yes! That's what Kenji and Bewear said!

"Clefairy!" That's great! The Chef Clefairy also began to look forward to it.

Although the Clefairy in the other jobs didn't have such a dramatic experience, they too were thoroughly enjoying life here. Their home planet was covered in rocks; it didn't have the flowers, grass, trees, juice, or milk that this place had. Besides, the work at the breeding center wasn't tiring at all. Most of the time, they were in a state of slacking off. Not only that, but Kenji and Bewear would also give them delicious snacks to eat.

Could there be a better Clefairy paradise on Earth than this?

Seeing this, one Clefairy couldn't help but ask, "Clefairy?" Then... are we still going to look for the land flowing with milk and honey? That legendary place... they had no idea where it was. If they continued on, they might end up with nothing.

"Clefairy!" one Clefairy nodded firmly. Of course, we have to go! We left our planet specifically to find that place!

"Clefairy..." The other Clefairy fell silent.

With the Clefairy problem solved and many new helpers at the breeding center, Kenji's mood improved greatly. However, there was still one problem. What should he do with the six Meteorites the Clefairy had given him?

Although to the Clefairy, these things were just decorations, Kenji knew that any one of them could activate Mt. Chimney, cause a volcanic eruption, and reawaken Groudon. Also, the things felt hot to the touch. Could they be radioactive?

Kenji was alarmed and quickly put the stones down to look at his hands. There were no changes, and his body felt no discomfort whatsoever. It seemed he wasn't affected by any radiation.

"Uhh... is it probably because humans in the Pokémon world have special constitutions?" Kenji couldn't help but speculate. In the anime, someone like Ash could take a Thunderbolt head-on.

But speaking of Ash... since Steven Stone wasn't the Champion at this point in time, Ash should only be about four or five years old. This meant there were at least five years until the series of major plot events in the Pokémon world would begin. That was perfect. They could use these five years to develop secretly. That way, if Groudon and Kyogre started fighting and affecting the Hoenn region, they would have a certain ability to protect themselves.
