Chapter 733: Chapter 732: The Mysterious Continent and the Descendants
Cain carefully observed the innermost wall of the hall. It was covered with a vast number of inscriptions in various languages, many of which had deteriorated over time, though most remained legible.
Suddenly, a line of text caught his attention, leaving him motionless for a moment.
This is...
Cynthia, noticing that Cain was absorbed in the engravings, did not show any surprise. However, she decided to explain: "Although these languages have been lost over time, the main content has been orally passed down by the inhabitants of Celestic Town."
Then, she began to recount: "The creator god, Arceus, shaped the world with the help of the god of time, Dialga, and the god of space, Palkia. However, one day, a creature from a destroyed world appeared and, upon encountering Arceus, attacked it."
"Although the creature was ultimately defeated and sealed in its original world, Arceus was gravely injured, as it continued to dedicate its energy to the creation of the world."
"In the end, the Pokémon world was completed, but Arceus withdrew to heal its wounds. With its absence, Dialga and Palkia began to have conflicts, which led to a great battle that wreaked havoc on the Pokémon world."
Cynthia explained that the inhabitants of Celestic Town believe this battle marked the end of the ancient era of the Pokémon world and the beginning of a new civilization.
However, Cain knew that this version was inaccurate.
Although Dialga and Palkia were powerful, they were not strong enough to significantly alter the course of the Pokémon world.
After all, there were other legendary Pokémon, such as Rayquaza in Hoenn and Lugia and Ho-Oh in Johto, capable of facing them without issue.
As he listened to Cynthia, Cain continued to examine the engravings on the wall. More specifically, the parts he could understand.
Yes, Cain could read one of the inscribed languages—the language of the Unown. Thanks to his recent experience with the three Unown, he had acquired the ability to decipher their symbols.
As he read the engravings, Cain discovered that what Cynthia was saying was not entirely true. The inscriptions did not speak of Arceus and Giratina but were instead related to Dialga and Palkia.
According to the inscriptions, under Arceus's supervision, Dialga and Palkia attempted to resolve their differences by creating a continent at the boundary of their territories in an alternate space. This continent, formed by their combined powers, symbolized a truce between them.
However, peace was only superficial. When Arceus withdrew, the conflicts between Dialga and Palkia resurfaced, and the continent was abandoned.
The most surprising part was that the continent was not far from Celestic Town, at least in terms of distance in another dimension. Moreover, the inhabitants of Celestic Town were descendants of the first settlers of that mysterious continent.
This explained the paintings on the walls depicting the Unown coexisting with the ancient residents. After all, the Unown also inhabited alternate dimensions.
However, the engravings did not explain how to reach the continent. In the most crucial sections, the texts were blurred or damaged.
Cain decided not to share this information with Cynthia. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, but he couldn't reveal how he knew how to read the engravings without raising suspicion. Furthermore, revealing the truth about the origins of Celestic Town's inhabitants could have unforeseen consequences.
Cynthia concluded by saying, "It is said that one day, Dialga and Palkia will return to the Pokémon world together, and when that happens, their battle will be inevitable. At that moment, all the trainers in the world will face an unprecedented crisis."
Cain feigned a serious expression, though in his mind, he thought the threat was not as great as it seemed. He recalled that at some point, Dialga and Palkia had indeed appeared in the Pokémon world, but everything had turned out fine thanks to certain events involving a young trainer.
After recording all the information in his system, Cain followed Cynthia out of the hall.
However, shortly after both had left, the space within the hall began to distort, and an Unown emerged from a dimensional rift. It briefly observed Cain and Cynthia as they walked away before disappearing back into the void.
Cain reflected on the secrets of the Sinnoh region, which seemed endless. But now was not the time to get distracted. There were seven days left before the start of the Sinnoh Tournament, and Cain had a destination in mind for training:
Mount Coronet.
This snow-covered mountain, the highest in Sinnoh, stretched across the entire region, dividing it into east and west. Various species of wild Pokémon of multiple levels inhabited its diverse terrains. The closer one got to the summit, the stronger the Pokémon became.
Mount Coronet was connected to Celestic Town via Route 211, one of the three routes leading to the mountain.
