"Alright, Primeape, you can rest in your Poké Ball for now, just like Ditto," Tyson said softly after another battle ended.

Primeape, who had been glowing with pride from its victory, suddenly looked dejected.

Seeing this, Tyson crouched down to pat its head. "It's not because of your performance, buddy. You've been amazing. But I don't know the strength of the enemies we're up against this time. To move swiftly and keep you as a surprise, you need to stay in your Poké Ball. You're my trump card, after all."

Primeape tilted its head, absorbing Tyson's words. Then, with a spirited nod, its enthusiasm returned, and it allowed itself to be recalled.

"Alright, let's go," Tyson said. Kadabra's psychic energy swirled around them, and the two disappeared with Teleport.

Elsewhere in the forest, three figures moved with intent.

"According to the intel, he should be in this forest," said Kuro, the thinnest of the trio.

"Then let's not waste time. Just tell us the plan," grumbled Woodman, his massive arms folded impatiently.

Kuro adjusted his gloves. "We have the advantage with our Pokémon. If we catch up to him, he's as good as ours. Thomas, your Houndoom will handle detection and provoke his Kadabra. Woodman and I will focus on the battle once his teleportation is blocked."

"Leave it to me," Thomas said confidently. "Houndoom and Azumarill are ready. Follow my lead."

The group released their Pokémon and pressed on, tracking Tyson's scent trail.

Unbeknownst to them, Tyson had planned ahead. While browsing the Silph Co. shop back in Saffron City, he had stumbled upon an odor-masking spray. With it, he had neutralized his scent immediately after teleporting.

From a safe distance, Tyson observed the trio with narrowed eyes. Their Pokémon—a Houndoom, Azumarill, and others just outside his sight—indicated they were well-prepared to counter him.

"Houndoom is clearly the key to their plan," Tyson mused. "Its Provocation is likely well-trained to stop Kadabra's Teleport. I'll need to neutralize it first."

Calling out Ditto, Tyson gave it a picture of a random trainer to transform into. Delighted to contribute, Ditto shifted form and donned the disguise flawlessly.

With Charizard, Kadabra, and the others prepared for battle, Tyson set his counter-strategy into motion.

As Tyson approached, Thomas suddenly raised his hand. "Stop. Someone's coming."

The trio froze, eyes scanning the area.

"Houndoom says it's not Tyson. The scent is different," Thomas clarified.

"Ignore them. Time is of the essence," Kuro said after a moment. "If they get closer, we'll deal with them."

Tyson smirked from his hidden position. Using wild Pokémon as cover, he inched closer until Kadabra could detect the group's exact location.

The battle began in a flash.

"Teleport!" Tyson commanded. In an instant, Kadabra swapped Azumarill into their midst, away from its allies.

"Houndoom, Provocation!" Thomas barked, but the command came a moment too late. Kadabra vanished just before the move hit.

Before the trio could regroup, Azumarill was surrounded by Charizard and Sylveon. Flames and fairy light converged in a coordinated barrage, leaving the Azumarill severely weakened.

Stunned, Kuro and his group hesitated.

"Now," Tyson said quietly. "The real hunt begins."
