Chapter 14: Methods for Finding Pokémon
Su Feng and Torchic walked for nearly an hour without encountering any Pokémon.
"Something's off. Something's really off."
He was getting frustrated. Thankfully, Torchic was still in the live stream, or else the audience would have dwindled by now.
He felt like he had been sprayed with bug repellent. How else could he not encounter a single wild Pokémon after an hour in the wilderness?
[It's so quiet. Why haven't we seen any Pokémon?]
[But you have to admit, this forest, untouched by humans, looks really beautiful.]
[The air in such a pristine forest must be incredibly fresh.]
[If I get the chance, I'd love to visit.]
"It's not impossible."
Su Feng, bored out of his mind, interacted with the chat.
"If you have a Pokémon partner, you could try exploring these unknown forests or other regions."
"Of course, it's best to wait until Pokémon become more widespread. Exploring unknown areas alone is very, very dangerous."
Su Feng emphasized the word "dangerous" to highlight the risks of solo exploration.
[I believe that. Remember when the streamer encountered the Beedrill swarm on the first day? He almost didn't make it.]
[Yeah, that was really dangerous. If the streamer had been any slower, he would've been dead or crippled.]
[We know it's dangerous, but how does the streamer dare to explore alone?]
"I have solid reasons for exploring alone," Su Feng said with some confidence.
"First, I have extensive knowledge. I know the characteristics, behaviors, and dangers of every Pokémon."
"Also, my physical fitness is exceptional. Some weaker Pokémon might not even be able to take me down one-on-one."
[666, the streamer is bragging again.]
[The question is, how does the streamer know so much about Pokémon?]
[Exceptional physical fitness? You mean you can run really fast when escaping.]
[Can you really take on a Pokémon one-on-one? Can you beat Torchic?]
Su Feng's face darkened. "I said, only the very weak ones."
A typical Torchic is only 0.4 meters tall, but his Torchic is almost 0.6 meters.
Although it's still in its juvenile stage, given that Torchic can smash a hole in a tree as thick as a person, Su Feng probably couldn't withstand a few charges from Torchic.
As for the question about how he knew so much about Pokémon, Su Feng chose to ignore it.
He hadn't figured out how to explain that yet, and there was no need to explain it to the audience at this point.
"In short, if you don't have a Pokémon to protect you, never venture into these unknown areas."
"On the other hand, if Pokémon do become widespread in the future, and you're willing to travel and grow with your partner while exploring the unknown, that would be a wonderful thing."
"At least, that's what I think."
[What he said makes sense...]
[Oh no, he's actually making me want to do it.]
[If I had a reliable Pokémon by my side, growing and traveling together would indeed be a beautiful way of life...]
[Sniff, I hope it really becomes widespread in the future. I can't wait.]
As Su Feng searched for Pokémon, he chatted with the audience.
After walking for a few more minutes, Su Feng frowned and stopped.
"This isn't working. Wandering around aimlessly like this isn't effective."
"Finding a Pokémon is too hard. If only Pokémon would come to me..."
Suddenly, Su Feng's eyes lit up. "Right, why didn't I think of that earlier?"
"Pokémon need water. If I go to a water source, Pokémon will naturally gather there."
[Wow, the streamer is a genius. (sarcastic tone)]
[Isn't that common sense...]
[All carbon-based life forms need water. That's just basic knowledge.]
Su Feng pretended not to see the comments and muttered, "Dragon-searching, gold-dividing, looking at the winding mountains, one layer of winding is one layer of barrier..."
[Huh? You know feng shui too?]
[I feel like that's a tomb-raiding chant...]
[The streamer's hundred side hustles.]
The chant was just a cover. In reality, Su Feng quietly asked Torchic where it had caught the fish yesterday.
"Torchic, where did you catch the fish yesterday?"
"Chirp!"
Torchic quickly understood Su Feng's meaning and gently tugged at his pants, signaling him to follow.
"Don't worry, everyone. I've found the water source. We'll see new Pokémon soon!"
Su Feng followed Torchic, striding toward the water source.
[Huh? Wait, you actually found it?]
[This doesn't make any sense.]
[You chanted a few lines and found water? How do you think people who struggle to find water in the wild feel?]
[Just to clarify, I replayed the stream and heard the streamer quietly asking Torchic where it caught the fish yesterday.]
[Thank you, Captain Obvious.]
[666, are you all watching the stream with microscopes?]
[Wow, everyone's a modern-day Leeuwenhoek, huh?]
Guided by Torchic, Su Feng navigated through a lush forest, and soon, a large lake appeared in the distance.
Su Feng's eyes lit up, and he quickened his pace toward the lake.
As expected, just as Su Feng had predicted, groups of Pokémon were gathered around the lake.
This was the first time Su Feng had seen so many Pokémon in one place, and his tone became excited.
"Ah, that big bird Pokémon flying in the sky is called Pidgeotto. It's the evolved form of Pidgey and can further evolve into Pidgeot. Its normal height exceeds one meter, and its wingspan is nearly two meters..."
"Those little dog-like Pokémon over there are called Poochyena. The bigger one next to them is called Mightyena. Looks like a family came here to drink water."
"The one sunbathing over there, the one that looks spiky, is called Zigzagoon. That snake-like Pokémon with a blade-like tail is called Seviper. Be careful—its tail isn't just sharp; it also secretes venom."
"Not only that, Seviper will wrap around its prey and slowly strangle it to death, so it's relatively dangerous."
"But if you don't provoke Seviper, it won't attack humans."
"Again, if you don't mess with it, it won't mess with you. Treat it with respect."
"That Pokémon over there is called Zangoose. It's a natural enemy of Seviper. They'll fight to the death on sight. But why aren't these two enemies fighting right now?"
...
As Su Feng spoke in front of the camera, some researchers watching his stream frantically recorded every word he said, afraid of missing any information.
After all, footage this deep in a Pokémon forest was still extremely rare and held immense research value.
