Chapter 107: 107. Plain And Dull
Eddie laughed as he opened the Pokémon potential list on his device.
Pokémon Potential List:
First place: Charizard, champion potential, owner: Morning Sun
Second place: Greninja, champion potential, owner: Morning Sun
Third place: Sceptile, champion potential, owner: Morning Sun
Fourth place: Lucario, champion potential, master: Morning Sun
Fifth place: Plusle, gym leader potential, owner: name hidden
Sixth place: Pidgey, gym leader potential, owner: name hidden
Seventh place: Staryu, Peak potential, owner: Dream Girl
"The potential list hasn't changed much," Eddie muttered to himself. "The Pokémon I've caught in the wild recently all have Peak potential, but it doesn't really matter. I don't train them anyway. I catch them primarily for my Pokédex."
He didn't care much about the Pokémon potential rankings. Only those who became his main team members would receive valuable items like Silver Crowns and Gold Bottle Caps. Currently, he only had four Pokémon that suited his taste and had been trained to their current level.
"Speaking of which, that egg is probably about to hatch," Eddie said, glancing at the mysterious Pokémon egg. "I remember it only takes a few days to incubate. I hope something good hatches from it. I need to train a new main team member."
Eddie meowed playfully at the mysterious Pokémon egg. He didn't really care about its potential, but with random eggs like this, he just wanted a rare Pokémon.
"If it suits my team, I'll train it as a main force. If not, I'll train it as a backup. At the very least, it should have quasi-elite potential. It's not easy for me to capture Pokémon with that kind of potential."
Even though Eddie occasionally encountered high-level Pokémon with great potential, finding ones with quasi-elite potential wasn't easy.
Don't assume that all four Pokémon he currently had possessed quasi-elite potential from the beginning. Charizard and Sceptile were gifts from others when he started his journey.
He had only encountered Greninja and Lucario with such potential naturally. He had captured nearly 100 Pokémon by now. Roughly speaking, there was probably one Pokémon with quasi-elite potential for every 50 Pokémon caught.
It seemed easy enough, but Eddie didn't have the time to capture 50 Pokémon just to see if one might have quasi-elite potential.
That's not even considering whether he would encounter such Pokémon or not. After all, his calculation was based solely on the number of Pokémon he had captured so far. It might just be that he got lucky, which didn't necessarily mean that one in every 50 Pokémon truly had quasi-elite potential.
Furthermore, if he encountered a Pokémon with quasi-elite potential that didn't suit his team composition, wouldn't his efforts be wasted?
Therefore, Eddie wouldn't specifically hunt for such Pokémon. Wouldn't it be more wonderful to naturally obtain suitable Pokémon through regular encounters?
Anyway, with his lucky streak, he estimated that this mysterious egg might hatch into a rare and suitable Pokémon.
"The Pokémon I currently have include Charizard, a Fire and Flying type; Greninja, a Water and Dark type; Sceptile, a Grass type; and Lucario, a Fighting and Steel type. My team coverage is pretty comprehensive."
Eddie contemplated what type might complement his team best. "Ground, Ice, Bug, Rock, Poison—I don't need those types right now. So that leaves Dragon, Psychic, Fairy, Normal, and Electric as possibilities."
"This egg will hopefully hatch into one of those types. The four Pokémon I currently have are all offensive speedsters, but I'm actually missing someone who can both attack and defend well."
"Looking at it that way, both Normal and Dragon would be suitable. Normal has fewer weaknesses, but it's more defensive than offensive. Dragon, which can both attack and defend, would be the most suitable. As long as it doesn't face a Fairy-type, a Dragon is tough and strong against virtually any enemy."
After considering his options for a while, Eddie decided he was hoping for a Dragon-type Pokémon, or at least a defense-oriented Normal-type.
As for Charizard and Sceptile, they could also gain Dragon-typing after Mega Evolution, but Eddie didn't want to rely on Mega Evolution for every battle, even against strong opponents.
Sometimes having a natural Dragon-type Pokémon on the team would be really advantageous.
"Alright, I've made up my mind. Now it all depends on my luck," Eddie said, patting the egg gently.
Eddie felt his lucky streak was quite powerful, so he should be able to hatch a Dragon-type. As for which specific Dragon-type, he wasn't particularly concerned.
Generally speaking, Dragon-type Pokémon were all very powerful, considered quasi-legendary Pokémon in each region. It didn't matter which one hatched from the egg.
Of course, it would be even better if it turned out to be one capable of Mega Evolution.
Eddie put these thoughts aside and opened the Trainer rank list and Badge list on his device.
Trainer rank list: First place: Morning Sun, Peak trainer
Second place: None
Badge list:
First place: Badge count 3, Boulder Badge, Cascade Badge, Thunder Badge [Owner: Morning Sun]
Second place: Badge count 1, Boulder Badge, owner: Dream Girl
Third place: Badge count 1, Boulder Badge, owner: LevelBoss
Fourth place: Badge count 1, Boulder Badge, Owner: LegendSlayer
"Those two trainers on the ranking list just now have reached level 19. If they level up all day, they'll advance today. Then the second and third places on the ranking list will be filled. That's something to celebrate," Eddie mused.
"I've dominated this ranking list for five days. Finally, someone's catching up to me."
"It's interesting to see these guys trying desperately to catch up with me but never quite managing to close the gap."
Eddie smiled and sighed that the life of a strong trainer was so plain and boring.
He looked like a master looking down on those beneath him, but he broke character after a few seconds and laughed.
His Pokémon saw Eddie laughing. Although they didn't know why, they were happy when their trainer was happy. They approached Eddie and interacted with him affectionately.
"Pokémon are so innocent and cute, which is much better than people with their complicated thoughts—although I suppose I'm also such a person."
Eddie naturally didn't reject his Pokémon's displays of affection and stroked each of their heads one by one.
Afterward, Eddie decided to take the day off—no training today—and let his Pokémon have a good rest or play as they wished.
After all, after being busy day and night, Eddie himself also needed some rest.
Anyway, the other trainers couldn't catch up to him now, so he didn't need to worry too much.
Today would be for playing and resting with his Pokémon.
Where to go tomorrow? He'd see how he felt when tomorrow came.
