Pokemon: I am Gary

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Team Rocket and the Elite Four's Lorelei

Under Charmeleon's illumination, Gary plunged into the cave of Mt. Moon. Most of the Pokémon living in the cave were light-sensitive species like Paras and Diglett, so there were no wild Pokémon attempting to ambush him. However, the Clefairy he hoped to find had yet to appear. Finding a Moon Stone in Mt. Moon was crucial, and locating a Clefairy was essential for that.

"Hey, you guys, hurry up and pack up! We need to retreat!" Suddenly, voices from ahead startled Green. "Charmeleon, return." He called back his Pokémon and pressed himself against the rock wall to hide.

Soon, firelight illuminated the cave as three members of Team Rocket emerged, escorting a balding scholar. "The experimental materials here are too poor; let's move them to Johto," the bald scholar muttered to himself.

"Yes, Dr. Carba..." "You're right, Dr. Mamva..." The old man twitched his lips. "I'm Dr. Namba!!"

"Understood, Dr. Pabma!" Squatting in the corner, Gary's lips twitched at this exchange. This bald man was indeed Dr. Namba, known as an authority on Pokémon evolution. It seemed he was conducting some undisclosed experiments in Mt. Moon...

Watching them leave the cave, Gary sighed in relief. "They should be gone now; I need to see what they're up to." With that thought in mind, he stood up and stealthily moved toward where the group had come from.

Bam! Suddenly, alarm bells went off in his head, and he rolled to the side. A rock exploded where he had just been standing!

"Hmph! I noticed there were mice in the cave; turns out it's just a little brat." A Team Rocket squad leader appeared before him with two lackeys. Gary's mouth twitched—he had been careless! He had completely forgotten that a Team Rocket squad typically consisted of five or six members. The group that had just passed clearly hadn't been enough; they were blocking his escape.

Looking at Team Rocket, his pupils constricted. Behind several members stood four or five iron cages leaning against the rock wall. Inside were captured Pokémon: Sandshrew, Zubat, Geodude, Clefairy, and even a Rhyhorn!

"It seems you guys won't let me leave easily?" He rested one hand on his belt and clutched a Poké Ball while teasing them.

"What do you think, kid?" The Team Rocket squad leader grinned wickedly and waved his hand. Two lackeys opened one of the nearby cages. A confused Rhyhorn cautiously stepped out. Without hesitation, the squad leader pulled out a syringe and jabbed it into the cracks of Rhyhorn's armor.

"Tsk tsk, this is what they call Kanto's monster factory," sighed Gary as Rhyhorn's eyes began to glow red. Why is Kanto the headquarters of the Pokémon League? Because not only does it have the strongest Elite Four but also some of the most troublesome villains. Other regions' criminal organizations typically pursue legendary powers recklessly to destroy the world. Only Kanto's Team Rocket knows how to develop economically and values scientific research. Even creating gods is something Sakaki can do with ease. Compared to Team Rocket, other villains appear truly superficial... too superficial...

Underneath Gary's furrowed brow, he watched as Rhyhorn began to emanate a white light of evolution. Soon enough, a majestic Rhydon appeared before him.

"Forced evolution? Using drugs for this…" Gary's eyes burned with anger as he glared at Team Rocket. This method of evolution not only overdraws a Pokémon's potential but can also endanger their lives!

"Hmph! Kid, are you scared now? Too late! Rhydon, take him down!" The squad leader waved his hand viciously. With its eyes glowing red, Rhydon went berserk, its horn spinning rapidly as it charged toward Gary. If that horn hit him... it would be game over!

"Eevee, use Water Gun!" Without hesitation, Gary counterattacked immediately.

"Eevee!" Released from its Poké Ball, Eevee shot out a jet of water directly at Rhydon's face. However, instead of stopping, the rampaging Rhydon charged forward even faster!

"Motherf***er!" Gritting his teeth, Green scooped up Eevee and rolled away just in time to avoid Rhydon's charge.

"Hahaha! Kid! Don't waste your energy; you're dead meat!!" The three members of Team Rocket laughed maniacally.

"Nidorino, Scyther, Charmeleon! Come out!" With a wave of his hand, all available Pokémon ready for battle appeared beside him. "Eevee, use Water Gun again! Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage! Nidorino, meet it head-on with Horn Attack!" He commanded his three Pokémon to surround Rhydon, then turned his gaze toward Team Rocket. "Scyther, don't mind anything else—charge in and take them down!!"

"Whoosh!" Without hesitation, Scyther swung its scythes and charged straight at Team Rocket's trio.

"Hey! Don't go crazy—ah!!" The three members of Team Rocket were taken aback; who was really the terrorist here? As Scyther dove into their ranks, it slashed left and right—arms were severed while legs were cut down—blood splattered everywhere...

Boom! On the other side, Nidorino was sent flying after facing off against Rhydon head-on. If it were Nidorino, there might have been a chance to win. But with that weight difference, there was no way to push back! Eevee and Charmeleon, using their agility, managed to evade attacks. However, against the rampaging Rhydon, they could only hold on desperately.

"Damn it, we still lack power," Gary frowned tightly.

"Eevee, use Quick Attack! Charmeleon, throw up a Smokescreen; don't engage directly!" His strategy was simple: drag it out! With Rhydon on steroids, he didn't believe the beast could rampage for hours. As long as he could stall, victory would definitely be his!

The narrow battlefield of the cave limited Gary's movements. At that moment, danger lurked everywhere.

Boom! A rock flew past Gary's head—this was a rock explosion! Rhydon's skills were practically free of charge! Gary's face paled slightly. "Should I just call for help...?"

"Roar!!" Rhydon, having taken a blast of flames from Charmeleon, turned its head and charged straight at Gary.

"Arceus, please help me!!" Gary rolled to the side in a panic.

"Ice Beam!" A sultry voice suddenly rang out.

Crack! Gary's eyes widened as he watched the once rampaging Rhydon transform into a lifelike ice sculpture.

"What—do I look like Arceus?" From the shadows emerged a stunning woman with long magenta hair, a black shirt, and a blue bodycon skirt.

"The Elite Four, Lorelei!" Green exclaimed in surprise. This woman was formidable; it was said that the reason Dragon's Envoy had failed in the Elite Four Challenge for five consecutive years was because of her. Ranked as Kanto's No. 2 Pokémon Trainer and an Ice-type master, Lorelei was a force to be reckoned with. Every time Dragon's Envoy, Lance, attempted to challenge for the championship position, they fell victim to this woman's prowess—time and time again... One could only imagine how terrifying her strength was!

"Is everything alright? You're not hurt, are you?" Lorelei adjusted her glasses and offered a gentle smile.

Gary shook his head, feeling awestruck. She truly was enchanting... Her every smile and frown seemed to captivate him completely.

"It seems I arrived a bit late." Lorelei frowned slightly. "Has Team Rocket retreated?"

"Uh... actually, there are still three left." Gary pointed toward the corner of the cave where the three members lay on the ground. "I'm not sure if they can escape, so I took them out first."

Looking at the three unconscious Team Rocket members, Lorelei raised an eyebrow at Gary. "I didn't expect you to be so decisive."

Taking out some healing items, Gary carefully treated Eevee and Charmeleon's wounds. He shrugged nonchalantly. "This isn't just playing house; they wanted to hurt me first, so I had to defend myself. Besides, I'm not one to be bound by morals…"

"Pfft~" Lorelei covered her mouth and chuckled softly. "You're quite an interesting young man; nice to meet you. I'm Lorelei."

Gary chuckled lightly. "We've actually met before; I saw you once with my grandfather at Indigo Plateau. I'm Professor Oak's grandson."

Lorelei's eyes brightened. "Professor Oak! Oh right, you're that handsome grandson of his."

Feeling slightly embarrassed, Gary scratched his head. "I guess I'm just average looking."

Lorelei winked at him playfully. "A modest handsome boy! Alright then, I'll inform Officer Jenny about this incident; what are your plans now?"

Green touched the ice sculpture of Rhydon. "This poor guy was forcibly evolved; he might have issues. I want to take him to the Pokémon Center for an examination—what do you think?"

Lorelei waved her hand dismissively; she wasn't interested in such small matters. "No problem; all Pokémon here are saved by you. You can handle it however you like."

Nodding in agreement, Gary took out a Poké Ball and captured Rhydon. He then approached the iron cage and opened it. Several wild Pokémon trembled inside, seemingly unaware of what had just happened.

After thinking for a moment, he carefully reached in and pulled out a Clefairy. "Alright little buddy, you're free now." He gently patted Clefairy's head as he spoke softly.

"Cle?" The little creature looked at him in confusion before understanding its situation. After tentatively taking a few steps forward and realizing that Green was just smiling at it, the little one finally mustered the courage to run deeper into the cave.

With Clefairy leading the way, several wild Pokémon expressed their gratitude toward Gary before turning to leave. Watching his actions, Lorelei nodded approvingly. No wonder he was Professor Oak's grandson; he truly was a gentle-hearted boy.
