Pokemon: I am Gary

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Mischievous Gligar and Disguised Sneasel

As Gary chatted with Director Robert, the group arrived first at the rocky area. Gligar primarily inhabit caves.

"Lightning!" The sound of air being cut through echoed as a massive fan created intense updrafts. Six or seven Gligar moved through the wind, their wing membranes glowing with white light, while their tails flashed with a similar brilliance. Amidst the chaotic dance, metallic pops echoed.

Two breeders, equipped with arm guards, occasionally separated two Gligar that had become entangled in a fight.

"This is the best batch of Gligar; they practice in this strong wind every day," Robert explained.

"I see," Cynthia nodded in appreciation. "Fighting each other in strong, irregular winds enhances their flight and endurance abilities beyond those of Gligar raised in natural environments."

But that wasn't all; suddenly, two larger Gligar shot out from the group and charged at each other. One crossed its two front claws, unleashing a sky-blue crosscut. The other was enveloped in a golden-purple vortex that surged forward relentlessly.

"X-Scissor and Giga Impact!" Gary raised an eyebrow. In the breeding house environment, being able to learn such powerful moves meant either extremely high levels or exceptional talent.

"What do you think, Professor Gary? Pick one," Robert gestured generously.

Gary nodded and lightly tapped his temple—

Identification!

A purple haze filled his vision as he silently acknowledged that Headmaster Robert did indeed have a critical eye; this batch of Gligar possessed full Elite-level potential. However, to be honest, this situation left Gary feeling conflicted; each one had similar qualifications, making it difficult to choose.

"What's wrong? You don't like any of them?" Seeing Gary hesitate, Robert asked curiously.

"Not really; I can see that they all have excellent potential, but I'm still a little undecided," Gary replied as he stroked his chin.

Cynthia's eyes sparkled. "Exactly! That feeling—being torn. I get it!"

Gary rolled his eyes; this was different from his indecision…

"Ow!" Suddenly, Robert jumped up while clutching his rear end.

The group turned to see a shapely Gligar sneaking up behind Robert, its purple tail ominously glowing with a red-purple hue.

"Poison Tail?!" Gary exclaimed in surprise and instinctively used his Identification Skill.

Wow—Golden Legend!!

He hadn't expected that among so many Elite-level Gligar, there was actually a Champion-ranked one hiding among them.

"You little rascal, get back to training quickly," Robert muttered as he felt his dignity as a headmaster had been compromised...

"Lightning hehehe~!" The mischievous Gligar stuck its tongue out mockingly at him.

Caitlin's eyes sparkled. "Wow—so cute!"

"Seriously, you little troublemaker; you're bothering the headmaster again," one of the male breeders said with a hint of concern. Great! Looks like my bonus for this month is about to come to an end...

"Big Brother and Big Sister, come help this little rascal practice!" The trainer clapped his hands.

The two larger Gligar immediately spun in the air and charged towards the rascal.

"Lightning hehehe~!" Sticking out its tongue, this playful Gligar moved its body rhythmically as it folded its wings and gently rested its tail on the ground.

Just as the two larger Gligar approached in force, the little troublemaker suddenly propelled itself into the air with a powerful thrust of its tail.

Pow! The two larger Gligar collided with each other and spun dizzily for two circles.

In the sky, the little troublemaker spun with its tail extended and tongue out as it proudly swayed back and forth.

"This is getting more interesting," Gary smiled as he took a front row seat to enjoy the show.

With a failed attack, the two larger Gligar became agitated. They flew back into the air and began charging up their special moves again.

"Lightning!" A flash of white electricity flew past. The little troublemaker suddenly raised its two front claws as red and blue lights lit up around it, surrounding the Gligar.

Boom! Facing the dual assault from both sides, the troublesome little guy confidently extended his claws to meet the powerful attacks of both larger opponents face to face.

As the smoke cleared, even Cynthia behind Gary couldn't help but look over again. It turned out that the troublesome little guy had successfully intercepted the two strongest Gligar in the group as they unleashed their special moves.

"That's it!and the boy just loves to cause trouble; "It's quite strong, isn't it?" Robert shook his head helplessly.

Puff! Gary slammed the railing. "I'll take it!"

"Gli?" The mischievous Gligar slithered towards Gary. Without hesitation, he extended his hand. "How about you join me in teasing others?"

"Lightning!" The Gligar's eyes shone like a Growlithe's as it stuck out its tongue eagerly and extended one of its glowing purple claws without hesitation.

"Be careful!" Robert exclaimed; he hadn't reacted in time to realize that move was definitely Poison-type.

Unexpectedly, Gary simply smiled softly and grabbed it firmly.

Puff!—The Gligar recoiled in surprise as its Poison-type energy instantly dissipated upon contact before Gary held it firmly in his hand.

Cynthia smiled slightly; wanting to connect with Pokémon on a mental level requires trust—this was the first step.

Seeing Gary confidently hold onto his claw made the two of them wonder. The little Gligar's big eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Gar!" With a playful jump, it wrapped itself around Gary's head...

"Hahaha... okay okay, I get it. You'll stay with me from now on." Not panicking at all, Gary gently stroked the Gligar's back.

Only then did he calm down and timidly waited on the railing waiting for Gary's Poké Ball.

Gary took out a Poké Ball and easily tapped it against the Gligar's forehead. Eagerly, it entered the ball and became Gary's Pokémon.

"As expected of Principal Monet's most beloved student; I'm impressed." This move on Gary's part was something that even professional breeders wouldn't dare claim they could do better than him.

"Naughty children often lack confidence and recognition; thus, interacting with them requires more determination," Gary shrugged as he explained.

"What if that little Gligar couldn't retract its energy just now?" Caitlin asked curiously.

Gary hesitated for a moment. "Well... there's an infirmary next door..."

"Well then! Regardless of how things go, we've got our first one sorted," Robert sighed in relief; sending this troublesome little guy away was for the best.

Gary was bubbling with joy inside. A Champion-level Gligar, inheriting the moves Power Trick, Poison Tail, and Toxic Spikes—this Pokémon's future was limitless!

"Alright, let's head to the glacier area next," Robert said, taking advantage of the momentum.

Gary nodded and tossed his jacket to Caitlin.

She caught it, looking a bit confused.

"Put it on; the temperature in the glacier area is quite low," Gary ordered nonchalantly.

Today, Caitlin was wearing a short-sleeved pink princess dress. Aside from her, everyone else was in long sleeves.

"Oh~ okay!" Caitlin replied obediently as she put on Gary's jacket.

Cynthia felt an inexplicable chill run through her teeth, as if she had eaten too much candy...

As they passed through the sandy area, they took a moment to observe one of Celadon University's few Gible. Gary curiously glanced at Cynthia.

It was well-known that there were two types of Garchomp: the regular Garchomp and Cynthia's Garchomp.

The regular Garchomp would be easily defeated by Allain's Charizard, while Cynthia's Garchomp would relentlessly chase down opponents, defeating them regardless of their type...

Using hardened plants to scratch itself or using a Thunderbolt to trim its nails, there was only one such Garchomp: Cynthia's.

In short, as long as it saw blood, it would attack anything!

"Why is there such a stark difference between Garchomp?" Gary wondered aloud. Could it be due to an exceptionally strong bond?

After pondering for a while, this explanation made sense. It was the strong bond that allowed Cynthia's Garchomp to overcome type disadvantages and become her absolute ace.

As the group entered the glacier area, a wave of cool air hit them.

Looking up, they saw the ground frozen into blocks of ice and artificially created snowy fields. This habitat for Ice-type Pokémon was filled with technology and innovation!

On the snow-covered ground, several Sneasel sharpened their claws while guarding their territories.

Unlike the social Gligar, Sneasel were highly territorial.

Among the many Sneasel, Gary quickly spotted one that was dozing off.

The reason was simple: this particular Sneasel looked different from the others; its eyes were especially clear!

"Are you trying to say it looks a bit foolish?" Caitlin whispered.

Gary shook his head with a smile. "If this Sneasel were foolish, do you think it could occupy such a large patch of snow?"

He pointed to the circle of snow around it. It was clear that other Sneasel deliberately avoided that area, indicating it belonged to the sleeping Sneasel.

"Just watch!" Gary said as he took out a Poké Ball and threw it at the sleeping Sneasel.

Smack! Before the Poké Ball could reach its target, a shadow flashed through the air, splitting the ball in two mid-flight.

"Sneasel? (Huh? Who just attacked?)"

The still-sleeping Sneasel suddenly flipped over and protected itself with its claws in front of its chest.

"Quick reflexes for such a little one," Gary chuckled as he greeted it.

"Snea~" The Sneasel's eyes regained clarity as it looked up at him from a 45-degree angle.

"Alright, stop pretending. I've got my eye on you; do you want to come with me?" Gary got straight to the point.

"Sneasel~" The Sneasel looked intently at Gary; it could see through his disguise—he was indeed a formidable character!

Approaching Gary, Sneasel examined him closely. This human seemed to exude a comfortable energy but kept it hidden. Such wisdom... this human truly deserved to be my trainer.

"Sneasel~" With its eyes closed, Gary confidently captured it in a Poké Ball without hesitation.

After all, if he hesitated even slightly, he might be misunderstood as trying to kiss this Sneasel—now that would be awkward!

Nearby, Robert watched in admiration; Professor Gary truly had an eye for talent and didn't even need an introduction before choosing this particular Sneasel.

While Robert might not know all Pokémon thoroughly, he certainly recognized this one; its mother was Principal Monet's own Weavile.

It was with this Weavile that Principal Monet once dominated Professor Oak's Dragonite in battle. If Monet hadn't suddenly discovered her love for academia, Professor Rowan might have been the runner-up in the Indigo League back then!

Having obtained his desired Pokémon, Gary didn't linger. He thanked Robert and reminded him to bring Onix and Poliwhirl to the exchange meeting on time before heading off with Cynthia and Caitlin for some food.

Who knows how long the seminar will last? It's better to eat first just in case...

"I'll treat today! Caitlin and Cynthia, is there anything special you want to eat?" Gary asked as they walked along.

"I want stinky tofu! Extra spicy!" Caitlin waved her hands excitedly.

Gary raised an eyebrow in confusion. Did I give her too much medicine? Has Caitlin developed such strong tastes now?

"Stinky tofu? That doesn't sound appealing..." Cynthia hesitated as well.

"It's fine! It tastes great—especially paired with garlic; it's so satisfying!" Caitlin insisted as she pulled Cynthia toward a snack stall at the school gate without giving her a chance to refuse.

Gary shook his head helplessly. He figured he should buy two bottles of mouthwash because he didn't mind eating stinky tofu himself. However, just thinking about how those two golden-haired beauties would open their mouths and emit smells of stinky tofu and garlic made him cringe at the thought...

The scene was too beautiful; he dared not look!
