The final warning was clearly shouted by Lulu, and Liam quickly chose...
"Do not fuse... for now."
"Acknowledged. Host may initiate fusion at any time."
With that, the system voice once again fell silent.
....
"The award ceremony is over! The three winners may please go ahead and rest. Next up is the League Tournament's closing ceremony."
After a while, the award ceremony finally concluded. The announcer smiled and spoke to Liam and the other two. Liam, holding his trophy and wearing his medal, nodded at the host's words and turned to walk off the stage alongside Lance and Lorelei.
"Hm? What! I see! Contestant Liam! Please wait, Liam!"
Just as Liam was about to step off the podium, he suddenly heard the announcer shout again. With a puzzled look, he turned back.
The host rushed over, grabbed Liam's arm, and brought him back to center stage. Lifting the microphone, the announcer's face was full of uncontainable excitement as he shouted to everyone in the arena:
"Everyone, please quiet down! Quiet down! I've just received a message—a piece of exhilarating news! Moments ago, five prominent figures arrived at our venue! They're here to congratulate the outstanding participants—but more importantly! They're here to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!! They are—!"
The host was practically trembling with excitement. He raised his hand high and pointed to the top of the main screen, shouting loudly:
"First up! A member of Kanto's present Elite Four! The Ghost-type master—Elite Agatha!!"
~DUN!!
Suddenly, all lights focused on the top of the large screen. Ghostly mist spread across the top, and a graceful, mature woman slowly walked out of the fog. Behind her, the mist condensed into a Gengar with glowing red eyes, emitting an eerie laughter toward the crowd.
"AAAAHHHH!! It's really Lady Agatha!!"
"Oh my God! Why is she here?! Wait—didn't the host say five VIPs?! Could it be...?"
"Yes! Yes!!"
"Next up! The Ground-type master and the Second member of the Kanto Elite Four—Elite Bronson!!"
~WOOOSHHH!
From above the screen, a bizarre sound echoed. A burly man plummeted from the sky, landing firmly atop the screen. A pink Gliscor swooped down and landed behind him.
"OHHH! Elite Bronson!!"
"That's the second Elite!!"
"Holy Shit!"
"Third! The Grass-type master and the Third member of the Elite Four—Elite Erika!!" (Not Erika, the future gym leader. Different Erika)
Exeggcu—!
Also descending from above, a beautiful woman clad in green robes sat gracefully atop an Exeggutor's shoulder, bathed in a psychic glow.
"AAAHH! Lady Erika, I love you!!"
"She's the prettiest!!"
Erika smiled sweetly and blew a kiss to the crowd, causing the entire venue to erupt.
"Still as stunning as ever! Truly our dream girl! But wait—there's more! Next up is the last of the Kanto Elite Four—our Normal-type master—Elite Norman!!"
As soon as the host finished speaking, a ball of fire shot up from behind the screen, circled above the stadium, and exploded to reveal a blazing Moltres, which let out a clear, resonant cry.
"OH MY GOD! Moltres!! It's Moltres!!"
"Wait—weren't we talking about the Elite Four?! Why is a Legendary Pokémon showing up?! Don't tell me... it's been caught by Elite Bronson?!"
"No way! Can a Legendary Pokémon really be captured?! That's the power of the Elite-Four for you!!"
At that moment, the audience went wild. All eyes were fixed on the Moltres, burning bright in the sky like the embodiment of fire itself.
Liam, however, noticed something off.
"That Moltres... it looks like the one I formed a pact with. But it feels completely different. Much weaker... What's going on here?"
While Moltres soared and displayed itself proudly, a sudden roar echoed across the sky—
"ROAR!!"
A golden figure dropped from the air—it was a massive Dragonite, even larger than the one Lance used, radiating much greater strength.
Riding on its back was a person... and that person shocked Liam.
"Enough, Norman! Stop using such cheap illusions."
The voice came from none other than Professor Oak, who stood behind Dragonite and shouted toward the Moltres.
That's right—Professor Oak!
The very same Prof. Oak who had disappeared without a trace earlier, now reappeared dramatically in front of Liam, though not in a way Liam had expected.
"Hmph. Boring..."
Right after Oak spoke, the Moltres let out a cold snort. It flew above the screen, and its body began to warp and twist. It melted like wax, shifting and shrinking into a light purple blob—just like modeling clay—until the true form emerged: a thin, gloomy-looking middle-aged man.
"Ditto?! So that Moltres was a Ditto... No wonder it felt off. So that man is Elite Norman?"
Liam finally understood. That "Moltres" was a transformed Ditto. It had likely seen the real Moltres as it flew away from Victory Road and copied its form.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please look! I'm sure many of you recognize this man—he's simply too famous! That's right! He's the former Kanto Champion! Samuel Oak!"
"WAAAHHH!!"
"OH MY GOD!! CHAMPION!! MOM, I SAW THE CHAMPION!!"
"Wait... I didn't know the champion's full name was Samuel Oak. But why does that name still kinda sound familiar?"
"Yeah! It really does! Even though I didn't know his full name either!"
The announcer clutched his chest, face flushed red, looking like he could faint at any moment.
"That's because our former Champion has always been too low-key!! Maybe not many recognize the name 'Samuel Oak,' and only know him as 'Champion or Champion Oak,' but I'm sure you've all heard of the name of 'Professor Oak'!! That's right!! Our former Champion is not only a powerful trainer, but also a titan in Pokémon Research!! He's none other than the founding Father of Dark-types and Eeveelutions himself—Professor Oak!!"
"P-Professor Oak! I recognize him now!"
"You're just now realizing?! We've known from the start! Still, I didn't know he was that formidable... I feel like I've wasted these past few years—I didn't even know Kanto had such an incredible Champion-level trainer!"
"Put some respect on his name—he's the pride of Kanto and the greatest Pokémon professor too!"
"Exactly!!"
...
Dragonite slowly descended to the center above the screen. Professor Oak jumped down, still wearing his signature white lab coat, smiling as he waved to the crowd. Finally, his gaze locked onto Liam.
