---------------------------------
The battle was over.
Growlithe stood beside the defeated Gyarados, letting out a series of loud, emotional howls. The sound carried a mix of sadness, joy, and relief, as though the Pokémon was venting all its pent-up emotions.
Liam approached the unconscious Jiro and began "looting the corpse"... or rather, he was simply retrieving the PokeBall for Gyarados.
It didn't take much effort for Liam to find the PokeBall on Jiro's belt. He calmly turned and recalled the Gyarados back into it.
"Since I won, I'll follow your rules. I'll take this Gyarados for now. Coincidentally, the professor has been wanting to study the habits of Gyarados but didn't have one. This will be a perfect gift for him to take care of," Liam said to the unconscious Jiro, pocketing the PokeBall before walking over to Growlithe.
He reached out and gently stroked Growlithe, who stopped howling, looking grateful as it rested its head against Liam's chest and nuzzled him affectionately.
"All right, Growlithe. You've proven your strength, but now it's time for you to decide. Do you want to return to your original trainer, stay with me and travel together, or choose freedom and go off on your own? Whatever you choose, I'll support you," Liam said, smiling as he stroked the fluffy fur on Growlithe's neck.
Growlithe lifted its head from Liam's chest, its gaze serious as it pondered for a moment. Finally, it nodded and turned to walk toward Jiro.
To be honest, Liam felt a pang of sadness, but he didn't try to persuade Growlithe to stay. He respected its decision.
"Woof! Woof!" Growlithe barked as it stood before Jiro.
Jiro stirred and slowly regained consciousness. Opening his eyes, he saw Growlithe standing before him. His eyes darted around, and then he forced a smile.
"Growlithe! I was wrong! I know I treated you poorly before, but please forgive me. If you come back to me, I promise I'll treat you well and never abandon you again!"
Growlithe responded with an indifferent bark, "Grow...."
Then it opened its mouth wide.
"Wait! What are you doing, Growlithe? No, stop!" Jiro shouted in panic, realizing what was happening as he saw the flickering flames building in Growlithe's throat.
With a roar, a jet of flames engulfed Jiro's head and clothes, setting him on fire.
Screaming in terror, he jumped up and bolted toward a nearby river outside the warehouse, leaving a trail of black smoke behind him.
Growlithe, satisfied, turned back to Liam, strutting confidently before nuzzling him again.
Liam finally snapped out of his shock and laughed with delight, hugging Growlithe's large head and enthusiastically ruffling its fur.
"Atta girl, Growlithe! I knew you wouldn't leave me!"
"Woof!" Growlithe barked happily, closing its eyes in contentment.
Suddenly, Growlithe sniffed the air, then lowered its head and bit at Liam's pocket.
"Huh?" Liam looked puzzled before realizing what it wanted. He pulled out a Fire Stone and held it out on his palm.
"Are you ready, Growlithe? I won't force you to evolve. You can decide when the time is right," Liam said sincerely.
Growlithe didn't bark. Instead, it looked at Liam with clear determination before lifting its right paw and placing it on the Fire Stone.
The Fire Stone and Growlithe began to glow simultaneously.
Growlithe's body expanded rapidly, growing to more than twice Liam's height while crouching. When the light faded, a large, majestic Arcanine stood before Liam, its fiery red fur gleaming like flames.
The Fire Stone had disappeared, leaving behind this magnificent creature.
"Amazing, Arcanine!" Liam exclaimed, jumping up to hug the giant Pokémon's neck and enthusiastically ruffling its fur.
Arcanine lowered its massive head, letting Liam rub it freely, its face full of bliss.
Liam patted Arcanine's head before pulling out his Pokedex to scan it.

Liam smiled, satisfied. While not perfect, this was already exceptional.
Suddenly, a wail echoed from outside.
"Ahh! My Gyarados! Where's my Gyarados?! You thief! Guys, grab your weapons! Let's show him what happens when you mess with us! Take all his Pokémon!" Jiro, soaked and charred, stood at the warehouse entrance, shouting furiously.
His lackeys returned, wielding makeshift weapons, surrounding Liam with sneers.
Jiro released two PokeBalls, summoning a battered Hitmonlee and a Tauros to block Liam's path.
As the lackeys unleashed their Pokémon, Liam found himself surrounded by dozens of them.
Scanning the group, Liam noticed a Rhydon and a Kingler that were worth a second glance. The rest were unimpressive.
"Only weaklings believe numbers can triumph over strength. If you dare bare your fangs at me, I'll follow your rules. If I win, I'll take all your Pokémon," Liam declared with a sly smile, his hand resting on his belt.
This declaration caused some of the lackeys to hesitate. After witnessing Liam's earlier strength, many realized they weren't a match for him.
Nearly a third of them recalled their Pokémon and fled without looking back.
Liam snorted, releasing a PokeBall. A hulking Nidoking emerged, roaring powerfully as it faced the remaining Pokémon.
"Let's go, Nidoking! Use Surf!" Liam commanded.
With a sinister grin, Nidoriro, now a Nidoking, stomped the ground, summoning a massive wave that crashed over the surrounding Pokémon and their trainers.
The lackeys barely had time to react before they were swept away, leaving the battlefield in ruins.
From afar, the fleeing lackeys turned back to witness the warehouse explode outward, debris and water flying everywhere. At the center of the chaos, Liam and his Pokémon stood unscathed, send a clear warning:
Some people should never be provoked.
