Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Rex's Farm
"Now, the farm is officially renamed Rex's Farm!"
Today was the second day of Rex's stay on the farm. He got up early and changed the name of the farm, as it now belonged to him.
Previously, he had ordered six Mareep eggs from the Yezawa Breeding House, and they were about to hatch, so he planned to go to the Breeding House to pick up the eggs.
The Yezawa Breeding House was not far from his farm. It was a facility run by the Yezawa couple, specializing in breeding Mareep for nearby farms.
Because they specialized in breeding Mareep, after years of cultivation, the wool produced by the Mareep they sold was of very good quality, so it was very popular.
It was said that even farm owners from other regions came specifically to buy their Mareep eggs, which was also the reason why Rex chose to order Mareep eggs from them.
"Auntie Yezawa, don't worry, I've purchased enough Moomoo Milk for them to get through their infancy period!"
Speaking of Moomoo Milk, Rex felt a bit distressed. To purchase this Moomoo Milk, he had spent a whopping 10,000 Alliance coins, which was the price of one Mareep egg.
However, in order to help these Mareep get through their infancy period as quickly as possible, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and buy it.
Although Mareep could evolve three times, due to the fact that most Mareep were very docile and disliked fighting, few trainers specialized in breeding Mareep, unless the Mareep's potential was extraordinary.
Furthermore, because the Mareep raised on farms only ate grass and frequently needed to have their wool trimmed, their levels would not increase significantly. This made it difficult for Mareep on farms to evolve into Flaaffy.
Moreover, after evolving into Flaaffy, the amount of wool produced would greatly decrease, and most farm owners did not want their Mareep to evolve.
After exchanging a few pleasantries with Mrs. Yezawa, Rex took the Mareep eggs back to his farm.
Rex felt that he needed some form of transportation now, as relying solely on his legs was too time-consuming.
However, considering his already depleted wallet, he could only hold off on this for now.
"Tailow, you need to work hard. I'm waiting for the day you can carry me in flight!"
Looking at the Tailow circling nearby, Rex looked at it with hopeful eyes.
"Tailow, Tailow!"
Tailow gave Rex a reassuring look.
After returning to the farm, Rex took the eggs out of his backpack and arranged them on the table. Each egg was placed in an incubator, which was included as a bonus when purchasing the eggs.
For the next while, Rex sent Tailow off to train while he sat by the table, reading the Pokémon-related books he had purchased earlier.
Time passed slowly, and even Tailow flew in for the second time to ask Rex to help it recover.
Suddenly, one of the Mareep eggs emitted a light, followed by the second, third... until the fifth.
Rex knew that the Mareep were about to hatch.
Sure enough, after a few minutes, the Mareep began to hatch one by one.
"Mareep, Mareep!"
In an instant, the hall was filled with the sound of their cries. Even Tailow, who was training in the yard, flew in immediately.
Rex knew that newly hatched Pokémon needed to eat and replenish their energy, so he took out the Moomoo Milk he had prepared and poured it into a bowl for each Mareep.
Now, the Mareep stopped crying and began to drink the Moomoo Milk one by one.
After the Mareep had eaten their fill, Rex let them roam freely in the yard, only instructing Tailow to watch over them and not let them wander off.
"Tailow, Tailow!"
Seeing Tailow's expression, Rex knew that Tailow was assuring him that it would complete the task.
After tidying up the table, Rex observed the last Mareep egg remaining on the table, wondering if it was a bad egg!
Of course, this was just Rex's complaint. He could feel the presence of life within the egg.
Suddenly, a flash of insight struck Rex's mind.
Placing his right hand on the Mareep egg, Rex activated his ability, and a verdant green light enveloped the egg.
"I didn't expect it to work!"
Rex murmured softly.
Previously, Rex had used the energy in his dantian to help Tailow heal or recover from excessive training fatigue and injuries, without considering whether there were other applications.
But just now, when he wondered if there was a problem with the Mareep egg, he thought about whether he could use his ability to heal the egg.
Actually, Rex now knew what the verdant green gas in his dantian was.
It should be a kind of life energy, of very high quality, which could repair the injuries of humans or Pokémon, enhance their potential. As for the limit of healing, he hadn't tested it yet.
While Rex was lost in conjecture about his ability, the egg on the table finally emitted light again, but this light seemed somewhat different from before.
Previously, when the Mareep eggs hatched, the light was milky white, but the light emitted by this egg was golden, almost blinding Rex's titanium eyes.
Fortunately, the light didn't last long, and a Mareep with a shiny golden body appeared in front of Rex.
"Shiny Pokémon!"
Upon seeing the Mareep, Rex had this thought in his mind.
"Mareep, Mareep!"
Seeing the dumbfounded human in front of it, the Mareep seemed to remind him, "Trainer, I'm hungry!"
"You must be hungry. Let me take you to eat!"
When Rex came to his senses, he reached out to pick up the Mareep.
"Zap, zap!"
Unexpectedly, as soon as Rex's hand touched the Mareep's body, a current surged into his body, making him tremble all over.
After a while, Rex finally recovered.
Although he knew that Mareep generated static electricity by rubbing their wool, he didn't expect this newly hatched Mareep to have such powerful static electricity.
"Mareep, Mareep!"
Seeing Rex being tingled by the static electricity on its body, the Mareep couldn't help but show an embarrassed look.
"It's okay, it's not your fault, Mareep!"
Rex directly picked up the Mareep. Now that the static electricity on the Mareep's body had been discharged, it was safe to touch it.
Placing the Mareep in its designated dining area, it quickly lowered its head to drink the Moomoo Milk.
"It seems that I'll have to wear insulated gloves in the future to touch Mareep!"
This was also a necessary tool for raising Mareep. Just born Mareep didn't have much, but after passing the infancy period, Mareep gathered together would generate static electricity through the friction of their wool, which was an instinct for them to survive in the wild.
Rex didn't know if the shiny color of Mareep was due to his ability or if it was originally shiny.
However, Rex planned to try the effect with another Pokémon egg later.
Although shiny Pokémon in the wild often face rejection from their companions
and are therefore more likely to perish, the ones that survive are very strong.
Moreover, in human society, the value of shiny Pokémon is astonishing, and many wealthy people are keen on raising them, so they fetch high prices.
Of course, Rex would not sell the Mareep. He no longer planned to keep the shiny Mareep as a farm Pokémon, but intended to capture it as his own Pokémon and nurture it well.
After all, the final evolution of Mareep is the Electric-type Pokémon Ampharos, and Ampharos can even Mega Evolve. After Mega Evolving, the special attack base stat of Mega Ampharos reaches an impressive 165.
If he could really cultivate a Mega Ampharos, then in battles, it would be unstoppable!
