Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Basic Training
Chapter 3: Basic Training
Later, Rex cut the Weedle meat into small pieces, skewered them on branches, and roasted them over the fire.
As the meat matured, droplets of oil dripped onto the fire, making a sizzling sound.
When the meat was almost done, Rex picked up a skewer and started eating.
Although there were no seasonings, it still tasted good, somewhat similar to lobster meat from his previous life, tender and smooth.
Rex couldn't stop eating, one skewer after another.
Seeing him enjoying the food so much, the Tailow on the tree couldn't resist its craving and flew into Rex's arms, chirping.
At this point, Rex was already seven or eight tenths full. Seeing Tailow's eager expression, he knew it also wanted to taste the roasted Weedle meat, so he took another skewer from beside the fire and offered it to Tailow.
"This one's for you, but be careful, it's hot when just taken off the fire, take your time!"
Whether Tailow understood or not, it showed no hesitation and pecked at the meat directly.
Surprised by its reaction, Tailow never knew Weedle could be so delicious. Despite already being full, it began to eat voraciously again.
Rex watched Tailow's belly gradually expand, feeling a bit worried it might overeat. Fortunately, after eating a few more skewers of meat, Tailow finally stopped, lying on the ground with its belly bulging, looking like it didn't want to move.
"You're such a glutton. You need to learn moderation in the future, got it!"
Seeing this scene, Rex felt amused and teased Tailow.
"Chirp, chirp!"
Facing Rex's teasing, Tailow also chirped, as if trying to justify something.
Unfortunately, Rex couldn't understand what it was saying, so he just shrugged helplessly.
Now that both he and the pokemon were full, Rex began to focus on his own situation with the "golden finger".
When he concentrated on his dantian, he found that the emerald gas inside had returned to its original size, which delighted him.
"It seems I have three opportunities for healing every day, which is fantastic."
Rex's mind wandered again, thinking about how he could heal pokemon like Nurse Joy, which was a significant advantage.
Other trainers could only rely on special auxiliary pokemon like Chansey to heal injured pokemon, or they had to rush to the Pokémon Center after their pokemon were injured. However, healing at the Pokémon Center wasn't as quick as in the games; severely injured pokemom still needed time to recover.
But not for him. He could train pokemons
to the brink of exhaustion, then heal them back to full health with just one treatment. This meant he could train three times as much as others in a day.
Moreover, other trainers couldn't train their pokemon too harshly for fear of leaving lasting injuries.
"Thinking too much won't help. What I need to do now is train Tailow well so it can carry me through the forest and out of this wilderness."
Rex believed that with his assistance, Tailow would quickly become stronger, allowing it to protect him as they left. Then he could consider his future path.
Otherwise, he'd be stuck here as a savage, with a constant risk to his life.
There was also the issue of fresh water. Just after eating the roasted meat, he already felt thirsty.
"Tailow, do you know where we can find water to drink?"
Tailow had recovered somewhat from its fullness. After hearing Rex's question, it patted its chest and nodded.
"Alright, wait here. I'll go to the beach and find some bottles, and you'll lead me there."
Anywhere humans lived, there wouldn't be a shortage of garbage. Although the world of pokemon was vast and sparsely populated, Rex's location wasn't far from human towns, so there was no shortage of garbage.
After finding a few bottles washed up by the waves, Rex rinsed them with seawater.
"Let's go, Tailow!"
Then, Rex followed Tailow into the forest, holding a stick in one hand and carrying plastic bottles tied together with a rope in the other, occasionally keeping a cautious eye on the surroundings.
Although Tailow was by his side, he didn't dare to be careless. If a pokemon attacked him directly, Tailow might not be able to save him in time.
Fortunately, the journey was uneventful. The most dangerous moment was when a Arbok suddenly emerged from the bushes Rex passed through. Luckily, the snake showed no intention of attacking him. Otherwise, getting bitten by Arbok would be very painful, just looking at its sharp fangs made Rex shudder.
Finally, with Tailow's guidance, Rex arrived at a stream. Although the journey had been somewhat thrilling, the distance from the stream to the beach was less than a kilometer in a straight line.
However, to complete this journey, Rex felt as exhausted as if he had run a five-kilometer race.
"Tailow, please keep watch around us. Notify me if there's any danger!"
After getting Tailow's response, Rex quickly filled the bottles with water. Since most pokemon in the forest needed water, the probability of encountering pokemons near the stream was high.
In no time, Rex filled several bottles. Even though he was only eleven years old, carrying these bottles felt heavy. Nevertheless, he had no choice but to take breaks along the way. That's how he transported the water back to the beach, walking intermittently.
However, drinking this raw water directly would greatly increase the risk of getting sick, despite his healing skill. Therefore, he didn't want to waste it.
Afterward, Rex surveyed the beach again and finally found an iron container in a shallow sandy area. Although its capacity wasn't large, it was entirely suitable for boiling water.
Having temporarily solved the food and water problem, Rex needed to think about how to leave the forest.
He had already asked Tailow how to leave the forest, but for Tailow, it had never left this area since birth.
"Tailow, do you want to be my partner? I can help you get stronger!"
Rex looked at Tailow earnestly and said.
"Chirp, chirp!"
After hearing Rex's words, Tailow didn't refuse, nodding at Rex.
Ever since Rex saved it, it had developed a liking for the human in front of it and wanted to stay by his side. Moreover, yesterday's treatment had left a deep impression on it.
It could feel that after the treatment, its strength had increased significantly, so it wasn't surprised that Rex could help it get stronger.
"Okay, Tailow, now show me what skills you know!"
Having received Tailow's affirmative reply, Rex didn't hesitate and wanted to understand Tailow's situation first.
After Tailow's demonstration, Rex learned all the skills Tailow knew:
Peck, Chirp, Focus Energy, Quick Attack
Among them, Rex felt that Peck was the most proficient skill Tailow used, perhaps because it needed to catch Weedle regularly in its daily life.
Peck was a flying-type skill. When Tailow used it, its power increased, and it was effective against grass-type, bug-type, and fighting-type pokemon. In the forest, the most common pokemon were grass-type and bug-type
.
According to Rex's understanding, Tailow belonged to the kind of agile, high-attack, but fragile assassin-type Pokemon.
However, for pokemon, incredible creatures, nothing was impossible. In the animation, Ash's Tailow could withstand Pikachu's Thunderbolt multiple times, showing remarkable endurance to electric-type moves, especially after evolution.
Ash perfectly utilized this advantage, coordinating Swellow with Pikachu to create the combination move "Thunder Armor."
So, as long as Tailow could withstand enough moves that were unfavorable to it, it could gradually develop resistance to these moves, greatly enhancing its resilience.
But for now, there were no conditions. The training plan Rex devised for Tailow was to start with weighted flight training, which would greatly strengthen Tailow's wing strength.
After some testing, Rex chose a stone weighing about five kilograms, then tied it with vines and let Tailow lift it with its claws for flight.
At first, Tailow was somewhat uncomfortable with flying with a stone heavier than itself, flying up and down, but after adapting for a while, it could fly normally. However, flying with the stone required much more effort than usual.
